was composed in

Kiefer's best friends.
Evoking the struggle of

the piece is based on the
hymn, My Shepherd Will
Supply My Need. It is
dramatic, heartfelt, and
overwhelmingly beautiful.

NotesThere is no possible
way I could compose a
piece of music worthy of
the memory of my close
friend, Dr. David Kirby,
who died very suddenly at
an early age. Neither
could I write a piece
that could come close to
reflecting his kind
spirit, wit, personality
or talent. In fact, it
was almost impossible for
me to write anything at
all. My own grief and the
stages of my
grief kept getting in
the way. I ended up with
a setting of the
hymn-tune, Resignation.
Resigned. To the fact
that he is no longer
with us. I know he is
in a better place, but we
are not. We miss him very
much. And so, My Shepherd
Will Supply My Need seems
to speak to those of us
he left behind. I
apologize if this piece
does not reflect your
special feelings for him
or help you celebrate his
moving on. Unfortunately,
I could only put down
what I have come to
accept and hope in some
way it may speak to any
of you that knew him or
to others of you who have
also lost a close friend.
My Shepherd Will Supply
My Need. That is my
hope and my hope for
you.Although technically
very easy, this
composition requires a
maturity of musicianship
to be performed properly.
The Bb contrabass
clarinet part is integral
to the composition, but
there are cues in the
tuba part if you need
them. Â Make sure you
bring horns to the fore
at m. 53 and the low
brass at m. 59 so the
melody can be heard
without effort.
Exaggerate dynamics to
bring more emotion to the
piece. Be careful not to
diminuendo too soon near
the end or it will be
difficult to diminish
even further at the very
end, where the lone
clarinetist holds over a
couple of measures,
fading into nothing. I
hope your students will
enjoy this piece and take
from it a greater
appreciation for the way
making music can express
feelings. $110.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 24 hours - In Stock

Alas! Babylon’s
Final Sunset is
another installment in my
series of works that
musically comment on the
biblical books of Daniel
and Revelation. The
principal source of
inspiration for this
works comes from the 18th
chapter of the book of
Revelation. This chapter
states that the career of
Babylon the Great is
finally coming to an end.
The music begins with a
mysterious pianissimo
tremolo accompanied by
tam-tam and bass drum.
The initial flourishes in
the oboes and English
horn serve as the
principal motive of
warning. As the music
continues, there are
varying degrees of
agitation among the
strings and woodwinds.
Throughout the work there
are rhythmic motives in
the brass, percussion,
and various woodwind
instruments that sing and
speak Babylon is Fallen
in triple meter. As the
tutti ensemble arrives at
a climax, the orchestral
texture becomes thinner
and slightly transparent.
As the music continues,
the opening motive
returns in the oboes,
however the counterpoint
produces a series of solo
laments. These passages
are intended to provide
picturesque images of
these words: And the
voice of harpers, and
musicians, and of pipers,
and trumpeters, shall be
heard no more at all in
thee; and no craftsman,
of whatsoever craft he
be, shall be found any
more in thee; and the
sound of a millstone
shall be heard no more at
all in thee; And the
light of a candle shall
shine no more at all in
thee. and the voice of
the bridegroom and of the
bride shall be heard no
more at all in thee: for
thy merchants were the
great men of the earth;
for by thy sorceries were
all nations deceived. And
in her was found the
blood of prophets, and of
saints, and of all that
were slain upon the
earth. Rev. 18:22-24 The
following passages
musically comment on the
historical career of
Babylon with a sense of
her impending
destruction. The series
of laments transforms
into the more emphatic
rhythmic motive Babylon
is Fallen. The orchestral
texture begins to become
more condense, once
again, with the initial
flourishes of, but with
notable variations.
Finally, the celesta,
harp, oboes, English
horn, and strings sing
profundities that are
finally transformed into
a minor mode tonality
that fades away with the
ringing of the tam-tam.
Babylon has finally seen
her last sunset. $36.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks

railroad worker in the
early days of expansion
was lonely, and the need
for music to bolster
spirits was of great
importance. The character
singing 900 Miles is
looking forward to being
reunited with his family
after being separated
from them for
considerable time. The
Wayfaring Stranger is a
prominent American folk
and gospel song that
reflects upon the journey
through life. The
character in that song
contemplates better times
with their family in the
afterlife. Both of these
songs speak to the idea
of searching for
something beyond the
current situation in
which that person finds
themselves. The
programmatic qualities of
the work are essentially
tied to the main folk
songa900 Milesaand they
evoke the idea of where
the song found its
origins. Beyond that,
both songs connect each
of us to the sense of
belonging and family that
are the human experience.
While the music paints a
picture of someone who is
alone, that is not a
feeling I want for any
young student in our
schools today. Band is
one of the few places
where students can
discover that sense of
belonging and find a
surrogate family. While
band is a family that
might not always get
along, they can reach a
shared goal through
diligent work, caring and
encouragement. It was a
pleasure completing
Lonely Travelers for
longtime friend, superb
musician, excellent
educator and dedicated
leader in music education
Dennis Emert. His
students debuted the work
at the 2020 PMEA State
Conference. I am deeply
appreciative of Dennis
and the friendship,
encouragement and
perspective he shared
with me over the years
teaching in the same
region. The opening
flute, clarinet and alto
saxophone part can be
performed by the entire
section or as a solo at
the discretion of the
director. The washboard
and spoon part can be
doubled as players allow.
I would suggest bringing
these students to the
front of the stage to get
the sound of both
instruments to the
audience. As the piece
develops and Wayfaring
Stranger is layered with
900 Miles, please remind
your ensemble to play so
they can hear each other,
not so they are
individually heard. I
thank you and your

together in search of
Lonely Travelers. The
life of railroad worker
in the early days of
expansion was lonely, and
the need for music to
bolster spirits was of
great importance. The
character singing 900
Miles is looking forward
to being reunited with
his family after being
separated from them for
considerable time. The
Wayfaring Stranger is a
prominent American folk
and gospel song that
reflects upon the journey
through life. The
character in that song
contemplates better times
with their family in the
afterlife. Both of these
songs speak to the idea
of searching for
something beyond the
current situation in
which that person finds
themselves. The
programmatic qualities of
the work are essentially
tied to the main folk
song--900 Miles--and they
evoke the idea of where
the song found its
origins. Beyond that,
both songs connect each
of us to the sense of
belonging and family that
are the human experience.
While the music paints a
picture of someone who is
alone, that is not a
feeling I want for any
young student in our
schools today. Band is
one of the few places
where students can
discover that sense of
belonging and find a
surrogate family. While
band is a family that
might not always get
along, they can reach a
shared goal through
diligent work, caring and
encouragement. It was a
pleasure completing
Lonely Travelers for
longtime friend, superb
musician, excellent
educator and dedicated
leader in music education
Dennis Emert. His
students debuted the work
at the 2020 PMEA State
Conference. I am deeply
appreciative of Dennis
and the friendship,
encouragement and
perspective he shared
with me over the years
teaching in the same
region. The opening
flute, clarinet and alto
saxophone part can be
performed by the entire
section or as a solo at
the discretion of the
director. The washboard
and spoon part can be
doubled as players allow.

680160682775. Das
Stundenbuch. This
cycle of orchestral songs
sets four poems from an
early collection by Rilke
entitled Das Stundenbuch,
or in English, Book of
Hours. Although the title
refers to a medieval book
of prayers for the
various times of day and
seasons of the liturgical
year, Rilke's texts
occupy a position some
distance from
conventional piety. There
is a melancholy to the
spirituality expressed
here, which speaks of an
experience of God that is
fragmentary, imperfect,
and unattainable. The
solitude evoked in the
second song (as layers of
busy activity are
gradually peeled away)
offers some solace, but
the third song is very
dark and fierce, filled
with a desperate, even
manic desire for God. The
last song returns to the
mood of the first, but
now in a global rather
than individual context.
This song, like the set
as a whole, speaks of our
world's brokenness, yet
strives to stammer
fragments of God's
name. $110.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks

I first discovered the
writings of Anne-Marie
Albiach. H II lineaires
especially impressed me,
on the one hand through
the sensual presence of
the words, and on the
other hand, above all,
through the spatial
disposition of the
typography. This is a
form of writing which has
nothing to do with all
that has existed before
it. This impression was
the starting point for a
creative work which has
since become a kind of a
project to which I will
dedicate myself
throughout my life. Since
that time of my first
discovery (in which
hundreds of pages of
sketches and a published
excerpt of a score of a
syntagma have been
composed, namely <<
monstrueuse vecut dans le
cadre >> la memoire) I
have attempted to develop
a new musical system that
encompasses all the
parameters of
composition. All of these
works which I have
composed are independent
from this enormous
project, but at the same
time they form the
experimental laboratory
for the all-encompassing
musical system towards
which I am working and
developing: a new system
of determining pitches,
metre, dynamics, musical
diction, manner of
performance, etc. With <<
monstrueuse vecut dans le
cadre >> la memoire it
appears that the research
for this project has been
concluded. After the two
large cycles << Les
Georgiques >> on texts
from Claude Simon and <<
Tristram Shandy >> from
Laurence Sterne, both
employing techniques from
my work with Albiach's
texts, I could finally
compose this work, which
was originally conceived
for voice and 6
instrumental groups - the
system was mastered, so
to speak. Anne-Marie
Albiach's establishes the
genetic code for the
piece, without the words
having to be spoken.. Her
text is, in the true
sense of the word,
measured from one
syntagma (syntactical
element), from one void
(space) to another, and
this results in temporal
structures of ensemble
texture. This is opposed
to another texture, which
is the temporal
measurement of a
recitation of the text by
the author: her voice,
using the range of her
voice, is the viola solo
- a recitation, in its
unique individuality, on
which the cold,
typographical structure
of the ensemble
superimposed. Every time
I read a text of
Anne-Marie Albiach, it
seems to me that she is
saying that which I do.
An extremely rare
coincidence, like that
with the violist Odile
Auboin, the soloist, who
I think works in the same
manner and has the same
approach to things. Score

Lantern's Light is a
medley of Persian folk
songs. The songs come
from a collection for
voice and piano by Clair
Fairchild in his Twelve
Persian Folk Songs
published by Novello and
Company, London, 1904.
Fairchild's goal was to
capture the spirit and
ambiance of Persia's
music and musicians.
Fairchild took special
care to preserve their
authenticity by limiting
western harmony. Such is
also the case in this
setting for concert band.
Special attention should
be given to replicate
songlike phrasing of the
melodic lines and the
rhythmic integrity and
style of the
accompaniment. Conductors
are encouraged to take
liberties with dynamics
and articulations to help
performers play
expressively. There are
many inflections that
exist beyond what is
printed on the page. For
example, the reeds might
subtly shape the rhythmic
accompaniment in m. 6-7,
as might the trumpets
with the melody in m. 18.
In. m. 23, the wind
musicians other than the
trumpets are a part of
the rhythm section with
the percussion. These
rhythms should fit
together nicely to create
a steady cadence. The
melodic statements
beginning at m. 35 should
be carefully balanced to
speak evenly throughout
the various voices. If an
oboist is not available,
the solo in m. 57 has
been cued in the alto
saxophone. By

s I Must Not Speak
emerged from a cathartic
attempt to realize, in
music, three dreams I
experience during sleep
with noticeable
regularity. These are
not nightmares nor are
they pleasant images, but
rather odd and somewhat
psychedelic scenes that
have remained distinct in
my awakened conscience
over the years. These
three tableaux are
presented here without
pause. It does not make
sense for me to deem this
an autobiographical work
like a memoir or entries
in a diary. These are
more like etchings on the
shadowy wall of one’s
private existence.
