(+)
The Library Of Romantic Music is a comprehensive collection of the greatest works of the Romantic period. Featuring composers like Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré, the works represented here truly some of the most beautiful ever composed. Now they're all in one conveniently spiral-bound volume, arranged for solo Piano for your sheer playing pleasure.Like the Baroque and Classical periods before it, Romantic music existed within a broader artistic, intellectual and literary movement. Emerging in the early 19th century it reflected a time of preoccupation with things mystical, spiritual, legendary and supernatural. This collection comprises fantastic original Piano works and beautiful arrangements from all the greatest composers of this era, including: Albéniz, Berlioz, Bizet, Brahms, Chopin, Dvorák, Debussy, Elgar, Fauré, Grieg, Mahler, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Puccini, Ravel and so many more.Spanning the 19th century, the Romantic movement was a reaction to what had come before. Music proved to be a particularly rich medium of expression for a new Zeitgeist that prized individualism and spirituality. Drawing together composers whose background was as diverse as the music they created, the period proved to be a very broad church indeed. This makes The Library Of Romantic Music particularly exciting, because the extraordinarily rich and expressive music is collected here in a single volume that is durable, convenient and is sure to be a mainstay of your music stand. For a simply stunning compendium of some incredible pieces of music composed by the masters, The Library Of Romantic Music is essential. The greatest compositions from such a fantastically rich period have been collected in this single volume, perfect for pianists looking for beautiful additions to their repertoire. / Piano

Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Felix Konzert für Violine und Orchester e-Moll op. 64 erste Fassung 1844 Edition no.BA 9099-92 ISMN 9790006565733 Editor Todd, R. Larry / Brown, Clive Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto op. 64, is a key work of the 19th century, adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David, who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the première; the 'child prodigy' Joseph Joachim; and Hubert Léonard, a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known. As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost, it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the solo violin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to Léonard. The letter informs us that the composer invited Léonard to his home in Frankfurt in order to make his acquaintance. It was already known that Mendelssohn had given proof sheets to David; now we know that he also gave some to Léonard. The recently discovered proofs reveal how Léonard played the concerto with Mendelssohn on that memorable evening in February 1845. Besides containing bowing marks and fingering, they also show how Léonard executed shifts of position and where he employed open strings. Furthermore modifications made to dynamic markings and additional legato bowing are shown. It is safe to assume that all of this was done with Mendelssohn's approval. That the young violinist made a positive impression on the composer is confirmed in the latter's correspondence following their joint performance. Mendelssohn is full of praise for Léonard's playing and offers to lend his support in finding employment in Germany. This revised edition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (only the orchestral parts remain unchanged) includes a separate booklet on performance practice. The editor, Clive Brown, is an acknowledged expert on Romantic performance practice. - New source situation owing to recently rediscovered proofs - Revised Urtext edition - With a separate booklet on performance practice (Eng/Ger)

(+)
The Library Of Baroque Music is an enormously expansive collection of the greatest works produced during that prolific period that flourished between the Renaissance and Classical eras. All arranged for solo Piano, this volume features works drawn from all the major Baroque composers, including some of the greatest pieces of music ever composed. The progression and development of music during the Baroque period can be heard in these pieces, providing you not only with a window into musical history, but also many exciting additions to your repertoire. The retrospective 'Baroque' label was applied to a diverse range of European compositions-often combining a spirit of experimentation with elaborate new musical structures. Dominated primarily by the Harpsichord and Organ, this period also saw the rise and development of larger-scale forms such as the concerto and oratorio. This superb volume is comprised of Keyboard and ensemble works from all the major Baroque composers, arranged for Piano. Featuring Arne, Boyce, Buxtehude, Corelli, Couperin, Gibbons, Lully, Pachelbel, Purcell, Rameau and Vivaldi, the composers here include some of the most respected and revered figures in musical history. The Library Of Baroque Music spans compositions of many of these masters, ranging from Frescobaldi in the early 1600s to Pergolesi a century later, and the famous three - J.S. Bach, Handel and Domenico Scarlatti.Baroque music, so called for its ornateness, was characterised by a bold exploration of counterpoint and new harmonic possibilities. This was variously expressed through the work of perhaps fifty or so major European composers. By the time Baroque began to segue into a new Classical period around 1750 it had already irrevocably changed and expanded the possibilities of music. The works that precipitated this change are available to play in this single volume, perfect for pianists looking to expand their repertoire with both challenging and exciting music. In this thoroughly enjoyable Library Of Baroque Music, the triumphant progression of this period is illustrated in the best possible way - through the compositions themselves, forming the definitive Baroque collection for solo pianists. / Piano

It is safe to assume that all of this was done with Mendelssohn' s approval. That the young violinist made a positive impression on the composer is confirmed in the latter' s correspondence following their joint performance. Mendelssohn is full of praise for Léonard' s playing and offers to lend his support in finding employment in Germany. This revised edition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (only the orchestral parts remain unchanged) includes a separate booklet on performance practice. The editor, Clive Brown, is an acknowledged expert on Romantic performance practice. - New source situation owing to recently rediscovered proofs - Revised Urtext edition - With a separate booklet on performance practice (Eng/Ger)/ Livre / Livre

Piano Reduction Of The Well-Known Late 1845 Version. Par MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY FELIX. (replaces BA 9050-90) Mendelssohn' s Violin Concerto op. 64, is a key work of the 19th century, adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David, who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the première- the 'child prodigy' Joseph Joachim- and Hubert Léonard, a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known. As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost, it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the solo violin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to Léonard. Original Version - Edition for Cello and Piano. Par SCHUMANN ROBERT. Schumann’s Cello Concerto Rediscovered In her first Urtext edition for Edition Peters, internationally renowned cellist Josephine Knight reveals Robert Schumann’s original version of his Cello Concerto in A minor Op. 129 – a piece he actually called a ‘Concertstück’ – removing generations of inauthentic editorial interventions. This is the only available modern scholarly edition of the work as Schumann originally conceived it, and restores the text from October 1850, based on the composer’s manuscript held in the Biblioteka Jagiellonska in Kraków. This Full Score matches the separately available edition for Cello and Piano (EP 73488). Matching orchestral material is also available from the publisher. Only modern Urtext edition based on Schumann’s original 1850 manuscript Many new corrections and clarifications, especially to the cello part Scholarly preface detailing history of the work and this edition by editor Josephine Knight, Piatti Professor of Cello at the Royal Academy of Music London Cello Part contains Josephine Knight's fingering and bowing suggestions Critical Commentary Cello and piano edition available separately from Edition Peters: orchestral parts available for rental Recording of the Concertstück featuring Josephine Knight available from Dutton Robert Schumann’s tragic last years have mired many of his greatest works in unnecessary doubt. The story of the suppression of his Violin Concerto by well-meaning friends is relatively well-known. Few, however, know that the version of the Cello Concerto that is routinely heard today is so far from Schumann’s original conception of the work – not only in details of phrasing and articulation, but also featuring a different ending with a bold final flourish from the cello. Composed in a burst of inspiration in two weeks in October 1850 shortly after he and Clara had moved to Düsseldorf, Schumann (who in 1850 was still in good health) never heard the piece performed. In an effort to promote a performance of the work, he gave the score to the cellist Robert Emil Bockmühl. Bockmühl made revisions that Schumann resisted, and the hoped-for performance never happened. Schumann’s health failed and he died aged just 46 in 1856. The Concerto, in an already substantially revised form, was premiered in 1860 but it was not given significant recognition until it was championed by Pablo Casals in the 20th century by which time (and since) the text for the work had accreted additions and alterations from generations of soloists. Now Josephine Knight, Piatti Professor of Cello at the Royal Academy of Music, London has returned to the original 1850 manuscript of the work, which is in the Biblioteka Jagiellonska in Kraków, to reveal Schumann’s original thoughts for the first time in a modern Urtext edition. The edition reflects Schumann’s original conception of the work as a Concertstück and restores Schumann’s musical text, free of posthumous interventions. ‘My ultimate wish,’ says the editor, ‘is to give performers both access to, and confidence that they are playing from, an edition which is a true representation of the piece in its original form, no matter how much more difficult this might be. I found that incorporating the changes enabled the piece to take on a completely different character – one that is lighter and happier, even “cheerful”, as Schumann himself described the work.'/ Répertoire / Violoncelle et Piano
