The Library Of Baroque Music is an enormously expansive collection of the greatest works produced during that prolific period that flourished between the Renaissance and Classical eras. All arranged for solo Piano, this volume features works drawn from all the major Baroque composers, including some of the greatest pieces of music ever composed. The progression and development of music during the Baroque period can be heard in these pieces, providing you not only with a window into musical history, but also many exciting additions to your repertoire. The retrospective 'Baroque' label was applied to a diverse range of European compositions-often combining a spirit of experimentation with elaborate new musical structures. Dominated primarily by the Harpsichord and Organ, this period also saw the rise and development of larger-scale forms such as the concerto and oratorio. This superb volume is comprised of Keyboard and ensemble works from all the major Baroque composers, arranged for Piano. Featuring Arne, Boyce, Buxtehude, Corelli, Couperin, Gibbons, Lully, Pachelbel, Purcell, Rameau and Vivaldi, the composers here include some of the most respected and revered figures in musical history. The Library Of Baroque Music spans compositions of many of these masters, ranging from Frescobaldi in the early 1600s to Pergolesi a century later, and the famous three - J.S. Bach, Handel and Domenico Scarlatti.Baroque music, so called for its ornateness, was characterised by a bold exploration of counterpoint and new harmonic possibilities. This was variously expressed through the work of perhaps fifty or so major European composers. By the time Baroque began to segue into a new Classical period around 1750 it had already irrevocably changed and expanded the possibilities of music. The works that precipitated this change are available to play in this single volume, perfect for pianists looking to expand their repertoire with both challenging and exciting music. In this thoroughly enjoyable Library Of Baroque Music, the triumphant progression of this period is illustrated in the best possible way - through the compositions themselves, forming the definitive Baroque collection for solo pianists. / Piano

The Library Of Classical Music is a wonderfully vast collection of the greatest pieces of music from the Classical period. Featuring a diverse range of compositions from the innovators and masters, each work is arranged for solo Piano in a conveniently spiral-bound volume.Among the many composers whose work is included are C.P.E. Bach, J.C. Bach, Beethoven, Clementi, Czerny, Gluck, Haydn, Hummel, Mozart and Weber. The sheer amount of incredible music featured within The Library Of Classical Music makes this an essential book to have on your bookshelf or music stand. The joy of playing this music will be in learning your favourite pieces or discovering new ones by unfamiliar names. The Classical period saw a broad reaction against the layered complexities of Baroque music and led to a simpler relationship between melody and harmony. It reflected the mid-18th century's wider enthusiasm for reviving the clean, well-ordered structures of Greek classicism across the arts. The orchestra expanded in size, woodwind became a self-contained section and the Harpsichord was increasingly displaced by the recently invented fortepiano. Instrumental music dominated, notably symphony and string quartet, with examples of both strands represented here in beautiful and accurate Piano arrangements that are perfect for seasoned players of Classical music, or those new to the period. The Library Of Classical Music sheet music songbook covers the rich musical period that followed Baroque and preceded Romantic. The Classical era saw some of Europe's greatest composers exploring new musical possibilities, spanning some 70 years starting in the mid-18th century. The spirit of Classicism would last until the new preoccupations of Romanticism defined the next major period of Western music. All of this makes The Library Of Classical Music a brilliant collection of Piano sheet music that works as well as an introduction to the period as it does as a comprehensive anthology of the greatest works of that era. / Piano

Featuring composers like Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré, the works represented here truly some of the most beautiful ever composed. Now they're all in one conveniently spiral-bound volume, arranged for solo Piano for your sheer playing pleasure.Like the Baroque and Classical periods before it, Romantic music existed within a broader artistic, intellectual and literary movement. Emerging in the early 19th century it reflected a time of preoccupation with things mystical, spiritual, legendary and supernatural. This collection comprises fantastic original Piano works and beautiful arrangements from all the greatest composers of this era, including: Albéniz, Berlioz, Bizet, Brahms, Chopin, Dvorák, Debussy, Elgar, Fauré, Grieg, Mahler, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Puccini, Ravel and so many more.Spanning the 19th century, the Romantic movement was a reaction to what had come before. Music proved to be a particularly rich medium of expression for a new Zeitgeist that prized individualism and spirituality. Drawing together composers whose background was as diverse as the music they created, the period proved to be a very broad church indeed. This makes The Library Of Romantic Music particularly exciting, because the extraordinarily rich and expressive music is collected here in a single volume that is durable, convenient and is sure to be a mainstay of your music stand. For a simply stunning compendium of some incredible pieces of music composed by the masters, The Library Of Romantic Music is essential. Par DIVERS AUTEURS / ROB MACKILLOP (ARR.). In this unique collection, multi-instrumentalist Rob MacKillop presents 30 airs and dances from Scotland, Ireland and England transcribed for the modern guitar in open-D tuning (DADF?AD). Although conceived for fingerstyle playing, most of these traditional, Classical and Baroque pieces are also playable with a pick.During the mid to late 18th century, a wire-strung instrument which could be described as a cross between a guitar and a cittern appeared in Britain. With the exception of the publications in Edinburgh by Robert Bremmer (c. 1713 - 89), most period writings refer to this instrument as the guittar. In providing extensive historical and performance notes on this music, the author has adopted this spelling. While derived principally from the publications by Scottish guittarists Robert Bremmer and James Oswald (1710 - 69), MacKillop discovered additional Scottish publications and manuscripts in The National Library of Scotland and even more manuscripts in the uncatalogued library of Blair Castle in Perthshire, Scotland.Written in standard notation and tablature, this book brings a particularly uncommon repertoire to light with an exceptional downloadable recording. 8 Twentieth-Century Pieces. Having touched on the romantic era in 'To a Wild Rose' and the classical era in 'An die Musik', Kember moves forward to the twentieth-century with this thoughtfully chosen collection for string quartet.
The Schott String Quartet Series
With the first books in the series focusing on baroque, classical and romantic styles, The Schott String Quartet Series has expanded to cover music ranging from traditional pieces through to Eastern-influenced works. Aside from 'Indian Summer', which features original compositions, each book contains original arrangements of well known themes, which have often never been arranged for string quartet before.
An important characteristic of these arrangements is that they allow all four instruments to demand the attention throughout the music. The pieces are suitable for amateur musicians or school students and are ideal for public performance./ Recueil / Quatuor à Cordes

Preludio contains 130 easy attractive performance pieces from six centuries, thus offering the most important pieces for beginners' guitar lessons in one comprehensive volume. The repertoire is ideal for first performances at music schools, as pieces for competitions and examinations or just as a 'treasure trove' for teachers, pupils, students, and guitar lovers. The selected pieces can be played in the second to fourth year of guitar lessons. They are divided chronologically into five chapters and arranged progressively according to their level of difficulty. Each chapter refers to another epoch: Renaissance - Baroque - Classical period - Romanticism and early 20th century - modern, pop and world music. The result is a tune book which can already be used during or immediately after studying any guitar method. Most pieces can be played in the 1st and 2nd positions, without requiring any barré fingering or ties and slurs. The somewhat more difficult pieces that require small and large barré fingering as well as position playing are placed at the end of each chapter. The majority of the pieces are original works, and the editors have refrained from making any radical simplifications. Only a few difficult passages have alternatively been made easier to play such that the level of difficulty within a piece does not vary too much. / Guitare

Zelenka: Miserere in C minor ZWV 57 Breitkopf Urtext ed. by M. Hutzel und Thomas Kohlhase The Miserere in C minor ZWV 57 is one of the late works of the Bohemian composer Jan Dismas Zelenka. According to an entry in the autograph score, it was completed on 12 March 1738 and thus chronologically takes its place between the Missa Sanctissimae Trinitatis (1736) and the Missa votiva (1739). It was the only late work by Zelenka to be reprised in Dresden?s Hofkirche after his death. Zelenka's artistic personality, his biography and his compositional style are utterly distinctive. His style is highly experimental. Was Zelenka really one of the greatest composers of the 18th century, or only one of the most interesting? I think that he still has several surprises for us. (Schweizerische Musikzeitung) Zelenka's Masses - fine specimens of Baroque choral literature, some parts of which are set even more colorfully than in the corresponding compositions by Bach. Arr. Henk Hogestein. The name of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is inextricably connected to the German city of Leipzig. This modest and very dutiful master composer worked like a diligent civil servant. From 1723 until his death in 1750, he was cantor of the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Bach Festival takes place in this city every year. The hallmark of Leipzig is internationality: every year, soloists come from far and near to perform the baroque music again. The Bach Festival inspired the Dutch composer Henk Hogestein to write Memories of Leipzig, which is based on a theme from one of Bach’s arias. / Niveau : 2 / Classique / Recueil / Concert Band ou Harmonie

The composer wrote of his work as follows: In the music of Hungary, folk songs are manifestly of great importance, on the other hand our ancient airs and dances play a modest role. For this work I have been influenced by dances of the 17th century, written by unknown amateurs in a relatively simple style. Most of these dances were recorded between the 14th and 18th centuries under the usual form of tablature notation. My interest in this music was first captured in the 1940s. I was so fascinated that I decided to give these melodies new life. I fitted the little eight-bar dances together into ternary and rondo forms, and leaning on early Baroque harmony and counterpoint, I attempted a reminiscence of that atmosphere of the provincial Hungarian Baroque. Par SWEELINCK JAN PIETERSZOON. Jan Sweelinck (1562-1621) was among the most famous organists of seventeenth century Europe and an influential composer in the Dutch and North German tradition. Bridging both Renaissance and Baroque styles, the Dutch composer is best remembered for the inventive, sparkling music he wrote for organ and other keyboard instruments. This remarkable treasury includes nearly all of Sweelinck's brilliant keyboard works, most of which have survived only in widely scattered seventeenth century manuscripts. In Sweelinck's day, these were some of Europe's most popular pieces for organ and keyboard. Nowadays, they retain every bit of their original intensity and vigour. Reproduced inthis authoritative complete-resource edition, they will be welcomed by serious keyboard artists, who will find them as praiseworthy today as they were when first known and played in Europe over three hundred years ago. / Répertoire d'Examen / Répertoire / Orgue et Clavier

Par SENFTER JOHANNA. The composer Johanna Senfter (1879 1961) from Oppenheim concerned herself with chamber music for strings all her life, even studied violin in Frankfurt herself. Max Reger then gave her lessons in Leipzig, first privately, then in his composition class at the conservatoire and valued her 'extraordinary compositional talent'. The strict teacher more and more became a committed promoter of the works by Johanna Senfter. For a period of 50 years, the composer concerned herself with the string quartet genre, from Quartet No. 1 in D minor Op. 4, composed shortly after the turn of the century, to the sixth and last Quartet in C minor Op. 115 which was performed for the first time in 1960, one year before her death. The Quartet in F sharp minor Op. 28 is her second quartet which was premiered in Darmstadt on 5 November 1922. In this work, as in later works, Senfter combined traditional form models – here Baroque movements like gavotte, saraband, gigue – with expressive, late Romantic musical language. The work, consisting of six short movements, may without doubt be regarded as a valuable addition to the quartet repertoire./ Répertoire / 2 Violons, Alto et Violoncelle

Telemann's Sonata (solo) for traverse flute and basso continuo comes from his 'Tafelmusik' published in 1733, one of the most important instrumental cycles of the late Baroque period. The prominent themes of the Sonata, especially of the first and last movements, seem to have impressed G. Fr. Handel so much that he took them up in his Organ Concerto #15 in D minor. Par FOCCROULLE BERNARD. This piece is part of a composition cycle for ancient or...(+)
Par FOCCROULLE BERNARD. This piece is part of a composition cycle for ancient organs. It is meant for a soprano voice and a cornetto (cornet à bouquin), favorite instrument of the Renaissance music and of the early baroque period, often considered the closest to human voice.
This piece was written for a meantone temperament (eight perfect thirds), which is also the temperament in which the cornetto naturally sounds the best. A slightly modified meantone temperament can also be suitable.
Ideally, the organ should have two keyboards. However, a version for one keyboard should not be excluded. The indication of dynamics and registration are to be interpreted freely depending on the instrument, and of the balance with the voice. The organ switches between the resonance and soloist functions, almost always in duo with the cornetto. The organist will make sure not to cover the voice and instead will look to merge with it.
The text comes from the Song of Songs. Music was often made from it and Monteverdi used it in a famous motet for tenor and basso continuo in Il Vespro della Beata Vergine.
The premiere of Nigra Sum took place on September 16, 2012, on Thomas d'Orp-le-Grand's organ, an instrument inspired by the 17th Century Franco-Flemish craftsmanship. The artists were Alice Foccroulle, soprano, Lambert Colson, cornetto, and the composer at keyboards. / contemporain / Répertoire / Soprano, Cor et Orgue
