Stylistically, Stamitz 's music is not too far removed from the works of the young Mozart, or those of Haydn's middle period. The Clarinet Concerto No. 3 was likely written around 1785, which was the same year that Stamitz was appointed the lead Violin of the Duc de Noailles in Paris. The style of thisconcerto reflects the usual orchestration found in the mid-eighteenth century, where most of the important musical material was given to the strings, while the winds were left to fill in the harmony. Océan est une longue pièce que l'on peut classer dans les musiques à programme. En effet, il s'agit là d'une longue odyssée retraçant la vie des pêcheurs en mer, ceux qui partent parfois de longs mois pour de grandes campagnes de pêche loin de chez eux.Cette pièce m'a été inspirée par la lecture de 'Pêcheurs d'Islande' de Pierre LOTTI. Ce roman puise sa force dans la nature dangereuse mais attirante de la mer et la particularité de ses habitants qui en vivent. La mer source de nourriture mais source de malheurs avec le nombre encore important de marins disparus dans les tempêtes.J'ai voulu retransmettre tout ceci dans Océan qui est une pièce d'un niveau assez élevé et qui demandera un travail intéressant à votre orchestre.A noter que la partition de piano est difficilement remplaçable et que celle-ci apporte beaucoup dans les différentes ambiances que j'ai voulu y dépeindre.Océan commence par 'l'aube sur la grève', longue introduction, comme le soleil qui se lève. Mais à peine est-il apparu que la vie du port se réveille et les pêcheurs sont sur le départ. Les dangers guettent bientôt ces téméraires marins qui s'en sortent malgré tout et qui ont alors le temps de penser à leurs familles restées au port.'Loin de tes yeux', mouvement lent et mélancolique dépeint ce sentiment, lourd de solitude qui s'empare parfois des hommes seuls au milieu de l'océan...Mais déjà le travail reprend, les filets sont pleins et prêts à être remontés à la surface, le travail et l'esprit d'équipe qui anime ce métier prend alors tout son sens.Après de longs mois passés en mer, il est alors temps de rentrer au port, les cales remplies de poissons. Il est aussi temps pour les marins de retrouver leurs femmes et leurs enfants qu'ils n'ont pas vus depuis si longtemps.
