In
English-speaking
countries ‘Away in a
Manger’ is one of the
first Christmas songs to
be taught to little
children. It is a moving
song with simple words,
which makes it easy to
understand.
The
song is also known as
‘Luther’s Cradle
Hymn’. This suggests
that Martin Luther was
the author of the lyrics.
According to researchers,
however, this is a
misconception the author
is unknown. In
England ‘Away in a
Manger’ is sung to a
different melody than in
the USA, for example. The
‘English’ melody was
composed by W.J.
Kirkpatrick. Andrew
Mackereth made a touching
arrangement of the
‘English’ melody,
which suits the tender
lyrics
perfectly.
In
Engelstalige landen is
‘Away in a Manger’
een van de eerste
kerstliedjes dat de
kinderen geleerd wordt.
Het is een gevoelig lied
met een eenvoudige en
daarom aansprekende
tekst.
Het lied
staat ook wel bekend als
‘Luther’sCradle
Hymn’. Dit suggereert
dat Martin Luther de
schrijver van de tekst
is. Volgens onderzoekers
is dit een misvatting en
is de auteur
onbekend. In Engeland
wordt ‘Away in a
Manger’ op een andere
melodie gezongen danin
bijv. in de USA. De
‘Engelse’ melodie is
gecomponeerd door W.J.
Kirkpatrick. Andrew
Mackereth maakte een
gevoelige bewerking van
de ‘Engelse’ melodie,
die prima aansluit bij de
tedere tekst. $72.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks

lydian. English. The
Vastness of the Universe
Jonas Hallgrimsson
(1807-1845). AboutÃ
‚ Jónas
HalgrÃÂmsson
(1807-1845) was an
Icelandic poet, author
and naturalist, who is
considered one of
Iceland's most renowned
poets. Considered a
Romantic writer, the
strong imagery in his
poetry was influenced
heavily by the landscapes
around him.The imagery,
excitement, and curiosity
of the universe leapt off
the page and the music
almost wrote itself.
Reflecting on the cosmos
and origin of the
heavens, the poetry
elicits excitement and
stirs spatial imagery -
...speeding spark of
light, ...wings swifter
than wind..., ...I
watched the stars...rise
from the still stream of
heaven... The pure and
almost child-like
fascination with the
universe and its
expansion and progression
fuels the perpetual
rhythm of the work as it
continually pushes
forward.A good friend
asked if I would write a
song for her ensemble.
The original voicing, for
SAB choir, contained
parameters in that it had
to be three-part with a
limited range in the Bass
part. With these
stipulations I began to
write. I searched for
something that would be
exciting for them and
landed on Jonas
Halgrimsson’s
writings. I believe it is
equally as exciting,
accessible and
challenging for
tenor-bass
choirs. Directorâ€â
„¢s NoteTruly consider
how the work can come to
‘life’ off
the page. Rise and fall
with phrase and sometimes
each note. The magic
exists beyond the ink on
the page!Consideration to
range, tessitura, and
content was all
considered as part of
this process in creating
music that is accessible
to all programs and
ensembles.Accompaniment
NoteThe accompaniment can
look intimidating, but
please feel free to alter
the pulsing eighth notes
in the left hand with the
eighth notes in the
right-hand so it creates
a compound rhythm. So
long as the momentum of
the work is pressed
onward, you are doing
this work
justice. About JÃÂ

Romantic writer, the
strong imagery in his
poetry was influenced
heavily by the landscapes

of the universe leapt off
the page and the music
almost wrote itself.
Reflecting on the cosmos
and origin of the
heavens, the poetry
elicits excitement and
stirs spatial imagery -
...speeding spark of
light, ...wings swifter
than wind..., ...I
watched the stars...rise
from the still stream of
heaven... The pure and
almost child-like
fascination with the
universe and its
expansion and progression
fuels the perpetual
rhythm of the work as it
continually pushes
forward.A good friend
asked if I would write a
song for her ensemble.
The original voicing, for
SAB choir, contained
parameters in that it had
to be three-part with a
limited range in the Bass
part. With these
stipulations I began to
write. I searched for
something that would be
exciting for them and
landed on Jonas
Halgrimsson’s
writings. I believe it is
equally as exciting,
accessible and
challenging for
tenor-bass
choirs. Directorâ€â

SKU: CY.CC2688
Composed by Peter Ilyich
Tchaikovsky. Arranged by
J. Mark Thompson.
Romantic Russian. Score
and parts. Published by
Cherry Classics
(CY.CC2688).
Peter Ilyich
Tchaikovsky (1840-1893)
composed his String
Quartet No. 1 in D, Op.
11, in 1871. Countless
arrangements of its
second movement, Andante
cantabile, have been
made, but it was not
discovered until after
his death that he, too,
had arranged this
movement in 1888, his
version being for solo
cello and strings. In
this version, Tchaikovsky
transposed the movement,
originally in the key of
B-flat Major, up to B
Major.
The
singing melody is based
on a popular Russian folk
song, and it lends itself
quite well for
performance on
trombones.
This
arrangement premiered
February 14, 1997, at the
Texas Music Educators'
Association Convention in
San Antonio, TX.

Andrews has penned an
anthem that your choir
will be humming all week
long! The alleluia text
is broken by short
fragments of praise such
as praise him, come and
make a joyful noise to

course Sing! The
challenge of singing a

bar for your choir—but
they will gladly work to
meet it on this
anthem! $1.85 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 1 to 2 weeks
