Une chanson a été entendue à Noël a été écrit pour Gorseinon Youth Choir et première au Brangwyn Hall de Swansea le vendredi 18 Décembre 2009. Le morceau a été enregistré par les BBC Singers dans Cripplegate de St Giles, London le jeudi 17 Novembre 2011. Il a été diffusé sur les chants de la BBC Radio 3 pour le petit déjeuner le lundi 19 Décembre 2011.L'ouvrage s'ouvre sur un solo de soprano qui nous rappelle un solitaire aigus effectuer le premier couplet d'un chant de la congrégation, avec le choeur traditionnel offrant harmonie à quatre parties dans le deuxième couplet. Le troisième verset associe un élément de XVIe / XVIIe siècle fauxbourdon - la mélodie est chantée par le ténor - avec un effet décoratif, sans paroles descant fourni à la fois par la soprano et alto. Le dernier verset s'ouvre avec les sopranos proclamant 'Un enfant nous est né!' Ce sentiment est répété par chaque voix dans une célébration chorale, entrelacés avec des fils de la mélodie originale, jusqu'à ce que le travail arrive à une conclusion triomphale avec l'ensemble du choeur louant le Seigneur, Christ le Seigneur. / Choeur Mixte (SSATBB) A Cappella

This little piece was commissioned by King's College, Cambridge in 2002 as the then-latest in their celebrated annual Christmastide service of Nine Lessons and Carols for their unique Chapel - it is dedicated to the choir and its director Stephen Cleobury. 'Little', but already a mini-cantata telling the start of the familiar story - Gabriel's Annunciation - praise to the Virgin before she too sings 'my soul doth magnify the Lord': the shepherds a-watching their flocks by night - the angelic chorus in the sky - the fusion of celestial and earthy around the crib holding the baby who is also 'lord of Time and Space'. Here we stop, for now. In fact this is only the first panel of a Christmas Sequence that continues and concludes the whole tale. Seeking out unhackneyed texts, I found such attractive material in the byways that I couldn't resist weaving together from it a composite tapestry, then setting the lot! The words of this section are from the Gospel account, anonymous carols of the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, Edmund Bolton (1611, 'Sweet music, sweeter far...'), the Gloria from the Mass, a couple of lines from well-loved Anglican Christmas hymns - with neutral link-lines of my own. Par PINKHAM DANIEL. American composer, organist and harpsichordist, Daniel Pinkham (1923-2006) studied the Organ and music theory at Phillips Academy in Andover before studying at Harvard.
