Johann Jacob Froberger, who lived from 1617 to 1667, developed a style of composition representing a synthesis of Italian, French and English influences, thereby setting new standards at that time. Furthermore he is the author of the Bach article in the dictionary Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (MGG, 2nd edition). Pieter Dirksen (* 1961) studied organ, harpsichord and musicology. His 1996 doctoral thesis on Sweelinck's keyboard music was awarded the Praemium Erasmianum. Dirksen has since published many studies on, and editions of, several masters of the 17th century (Sweelinck, Bull, Cornet, Scheidt, Scheidemann, Buxtehude, Luebeck, Johann Christoph Bach) as well as Johann Sebastian Bach. In collaboration with Harald Vogel, he edited Sweelinck's Complete Works for Keyboard Instrument (4 volumes, Breitkopf and Härtel). Dirksen is a member of the academic board of the Bach-Jahrbuch as well as a sought-after harpsichordist, organist and continuo player in international ensembles. Né à Nuremberg en 1653, une génération avant Bach, Johann Pachelbel est l'un des plus importants compositeurs de musique d'orgue de l'Allemagne du Sud après la Réforme. Si ses compositions étaient déjà très répandues à l'époque, sa pièce la plus populaire reste aujourd'hui sans aucun doute le Canon et Gigue en Ré majeur. Le Canon - d'après la source 'a 3 Violinis con Basso c.' - est construit à partir d'une basse obstinée, dont le motif de deux mesures se répète 28 fois au cours de l'oeuvre. La Gigue qui suit est également d'une facture contrapuntique très élaborée. La date de composition de l'oeuvre n'est pas connue, mais Pachelbel pourrait bien l'avoir écrite, comme la plupart de ses autres oeuvres de musique de chambre, entre 1677 et 1695, alors qu'il se trouvait en Thuringe. Le nom Cancan, attribué semble t'il à l'origine parce que les danseurs imitaient la démarche et le cri de l'oie, est ensuite devenu, par une transformation touristique d'origine anglaise (coincoin / cancan) le French Cancan.Cette danse donne l'image d'une société parisienne frivole, proche de celle décrite de façon caricaturale dans La vie parisienne. The genre 'pastorale héroïque? is a legacy of the grand siècle of Louis XIV and in the 18th century it only rarely reached the stage. But in the second period of his career it became Rameau's preferred genre: the more unconventional world of shepherds and nymphs gave him greater freedom in terms of dramatic action, stage décor and musical virtuosity compared to the tragédie lyrique. This is demonstrated to masterly effect in 'Acanthe et Céphise? In 1717 Telemann composed his cantata 'Gott der Hoffnung erfülle euch? for the first day of Whitsun based on a text by Erdmann Neumeister. It forms part of the 'Concerten-Jahrgang?, also known as 'Das Harmonische Zion? or 'Italienischer Jahrgang? where all the cantatas are conceived as concertos for vocal and instrumental parts and have been colourfully scored. This particular work includes two oboes, two Corni da Caccia and strings.
