The hymn Nun
ruhen alle Wälder (Now
All Forests Rest),
arranged by J.S. Bach
(No. 6, So sei nun,
Seele, deine, from
Cantata BWV 13), is a
guiding light throughout
this four-movement
composition. Pütz
wrote this work as a
musical outcry against
the wilful, profit-driven
destruction of our
environment. When Bach
used the word
“ruhen†(to
rest) over 350 years ago,
it probably had a
different nuance from the
meaning it has today. At
the beginning of the 21st
century - the so-called
age of progress -
“nun ruhen alle
Wälder†should
mean “now all
forests die†.
Massive industrialization
and globalization,
coupled with pure greed,
corruption, political
scandals, an
ever-wideninggap between
the rich and poor, and
other such senseless
human actions, are
pushing our blue planet
closer and closer to the
point of no return. This
work is not intended to
be a ranting accusation.
It should remind us of
the beauty and harmony
that can exist all around
us in nature, if we take
care of it. Pütz
hopes that this will, one
day, help put a greater
emphasis on
humanity’s
survival, and coexistence
with nature rather than
the exploitation
described earlier. All
four texts were created
by Australian poet Graeme
King, whose works were
discovered by Pütz,
by chance on the
internet. Pütz was
especially captivated by
King’s clarity,
and intrigued by the
possibilities of adapting
and melding the strong
rhythmical structure of
King’s writing
with his own musical
language. The four
movements are as follows:
1. Tears of Nature 2.
Grrrevolution 3. Stand
up! 4. Tomorrow The world

De hymne Nun
ruhen alle Wälder,

gebaseerde vernietiging
van ons milieu. Toen Bach
het woord

jaar geleden gebruikte,
lag er waarschijnlijk een
andere nuance in dan
tegenwoordig. Aan het
begin van de 21e eeuw -
dezogenaamde eeuw van de
vooruitgang - zou
‘nun ruhen alle
Wälder’ zelfs
kunnen betekenen:
‘nu sterven alle
bossen’. De
grootschalige
industrialisatie en
globalisering, in
combinatie met pure
hebzucht, corruptie,
politieke schandalen,een
groeiende kloof tussen
arm en rijk, en andere
dwaze menselijke
verrichtingen, brengen
onze blauwe planeet
steeds verder in de
problemen, tot er
misschien geen weg terug
meer is. Dit werk is niet
bedoeld als een
beschuldigendetirade. Het
moet ons wijzen op de
schoonheid en harmonie
die in de natuur om ons
heen kan bestaan, als we
er goed voor zorgen.
Pütz hoopt dat er op
een dag meer nadruk
gelegd zal worden op het
overleven van de mensheid
invreedzame co-existentie
met de natuur, zonder de
eerdergenoemde
uitbuiting. Alle vier de
teksten zijn geschreven
door de Australische

Le
cantique Nun ruhen alle
Walder, dont la ligne
melodique fut reprise par
Jean-Sebastien Bach pour
son choral So sein nun,
Seele, deine (Choral
ndeg6 - Cantate BWV 13),
est le fil conducteur de
cette oeuvre en quatre
mouvements concue comme
un cri contre la
destruction volontaire de
la nature pour le profit.
Plus de trois siecles
nous separent du temps de
Bach. Si les mots sont
restes les memes, leur
sens primitif connait
cependant quelques
nuances. Ainsi, au XXIe
siecle - considere comme
le << siecle du progres
>>, il conviendrait de
traduire Nun ruhen alle
Walder (les forets se
reposent ) par Les forets
se meurent. La
mondialisation et
l'industrialisation
massiveassociees a
l'avidite predatrice, a
la corruption politique,
aux actions humaines
irrationnelles et au
fosse grandissant entre
riches et pauvres
conduisent notre planete
bleue a se rapprocher
chaque jour un peu plus
du point de non retour.
Cette composition n'est
pas une accusation
acerbe, mais plutot une
exhortation a prendre
soin de cette beaute si
harmonieuse que nous
offre la nature. Et
peut-etre, prendrons-nous
enfin conscience de
l'importance d'une
situation de coexistence
avec la nature,
necessaire pour la survie
de l'espece humaine, et
non d'exploitation qui
conduit a la destruction.
Un jour, alors qu'il
naviguait sur Internet,
Marco Pütz
decouvrit l'oeuvre du
poete australien Graeme
King. Fascine par la
clarte de l'ecriture et
le rythme des vers, Marco
Pütz imagina les
multiples possibilites
d'adaptation et de mise
en musique qu'offrent les
poemes de King. Il
choisit quatre poemes sur
la nature pour creer son
oeuvre Four Earth Songs
(Quatre chants de la

3. Stand up! (Levez-vous

The hymn Nun
ruhen alle Wälder (Now
All Forests Rest),
arranged by J.S. Bach
(No. 6, So sei nun,
Seele, deine, from
Cantata BWV 13), is a
guiding light throughout
this four-movement
composition. Pütz
wrote this work as a
musical outcry against
the wilful, profit-driven
destruction of our
environment. When Bach
used the word
“ruhen†(to
rest) over 350 years ago,
it probably had a
different nuance from the
meaning it has today. At
the beginning of the 21st
century - the so-called
age of progress -
“nun ruhen alle
Wälder†should
mean “now all

When
Tim Sharp, Executive
Director of the ACDA,
offered Stucky the Brock
Memorial Commission, it
was decided that the text
would commemorate the
50th anniversary of the
assassination of John F.
Kennedy, since the annual
convention would take
place in Dallas of that
year. To that end, Stucky
chose four different but
pertinent texts to honor
the occasion, although
never referencing JFK by
name. Take Him, Earth was
premiered at the ACDA
convention in March,
2013. Originally scored
for chorus and chamber
ensemble of nine
instruments (available on
a rental basis), Take
Him, Earth is presented
here in piano reduction.
For advanced choirs.
Duration: 13'. When
Tim Sharp, Executive
Director of the American
Choral Directors
Association, very
kindlyoffered me the
Raymond W. Brock Memorial
Commission for 2013, he
suggested that because
thepremiere would take
place at the national
conference in Dallas in
the 50th year since the
assassinationof John F.
Kennedy in that city, the
text might refer in some
way to that grim
anniversary. Hesuggested,
too, that I consider
using a chamber ensemble
or chamber orchestra to
accompany thechorus.I
took these suggestions to
heart, but at the same
time I wanted to write
something universal
enoughto be appropriate
on other occasions, in
other settings. Thus the
score is dedicated to
PresidentKennedy’s
memory, but otherwise he
is never referred to by
name. Instead, I
assembled a group oftexts
that are associated with
him in some way, but that
also stand alone as a
more general eulogy.As a
refrain, there are a few
lines from the early
Christian burial hymn
that begins “Take
him,Earth, for
cherishingâ€
— lines that were
earlier set to music by
Herbert Howells in his
classic motetcommissioned
for Kennedy’s
memorial service in 1963.
The lines of Aeschylus
“Drop, drop
— inour sleep,
upon the heart sorrow
falls†from
Agamemnon were quoted by
Robert F. Kennedy uponthe
death of Martin Luther
King in April 1968. The
celebrated “When he

from Act III of
Shakespeare’s
Romeo and Juliet was

after hisbrother’s

The Book of
Urizen is a work for
concert band, solo
soprano, and a male
narrator in which sound
collages of religious
expressions are used. The
piece is inspired by the
compelling visionary poem
of the same name (which
the poet
illustratedhimself) by
the Englishman William
Blake (1757-1827), who
occupies a unique
position in western
literature and the visual
arts. He was not just a
poet and a writer, but he
was also a graphic
artist, a painter, an
illustrator, a
spiritualist, areligious
visionary, and a mystic
philosopher. For the
performance of this work,
a professional sound
system, including two
microphones and a CD
player, is needed. The
three sound collages are
three separate tracks on
the enclosed CD and can
beplayed easily at the
right moment. The Book
of Urizen bears
resemblance to Genesis
and Exodus, of which the
contents form the basis
of the Christian, Jewish,
and Islamic faith. Blake
adhered to the principle
that all religions are in
fact one,and that deities
reside in human beings.
In The Book of
Urizen this is
represented in “The
Net of Religion,â€
which is spanned over the
earth by Urizen. The
sound collages, compiled
by Jacob de Haan in the
studio, find their origin
inJerusalem, the Holy
City, where the
afore-mentioned faiths
“come
together.†In the
first movement of
this composition, The
Vision, Urizen
prepares his vision of
the world, and he
presents this to the
“Eternals.â€
His vision is
rejected,and Urizen locks
himself up in his own
abstract world. When he
does emerge again, he is
confronted with rage by
the gathered Eternals.
Urizen flees the wrath of
the Eternals, “the
flames of eternal
fury,†and enwombs
himself in his own world.
Whenthe Eternals see
Urizen in his
“stony
sleep,†they wonder
if this is death. The
blacksmith Los is torn by
grief because of the
isolation of Urizen. It
brings him to rouse his
fires, prepare his forge,
and to give
Urizen’s world
concrete form. In
thesecond
movement, The
Creation,
Urizen’s world,
but also man, woman, and
child are created. Los is
horrified with the
appearance of
Urizen’s body. He
mourns and pities Urizen,
and from his blood a
female form comes into
being, with thename
Enitharmon. The Eternals,
fearful of the female
form, decide to erect a
tent to obstruct their
view to eternity.
Enitharmon and Los beget
a son, called Orc. Los
baptizes him as a child
of the “fallen
world.†Orc is fed
at Enitharmon’s
breast,which makes a
girdle of jealousy
restrict Los’
chest. He takes the child
to the top of the
mountain and chains him
down. The cries of Orc
awaken Urizen, who
explores his world
creating instruments of
scientific measurement to
do so. Los encircles
theface of Enitharmon
from the sight of Urizen
and Orc. She then
populates the earth by
giving birth to an
enormous race.The

Urizen is now

energies and its location
provides unique
information for a certain
moment on Earth. Thus:
its position in the sky
tells something about
what happens on
Earth.
In this
composition the typesof
energies of four planets
are musically translated.
The four planet were not
randomly chosen. There
are two pairs, whose
influence and energy are
opposite.
Venus
and Mars. Venus
represents the feminine
principle: harmony,
beauty,art, and the
ability to make
relationships and to keep
the peace. Venus
connects, and
communicates in order to
maintain the balance.
Mars represent the
masculine principle:
winning, impulsiveness,
enthusiasm, and sexual
energy for procreation.He
creates war enabling the
strongest to triumph.
Mars is musically
depicted in a stirring
march in which enthusiasm
characterises the
masculine
character.
Saturn
and Jupiter. Saturn
represents concentration
and withdrawal: the
strongnotion of
responsibility,
seriousness,
self-discipline and
melancholy. Saturn is the
hermit who will conquer
his fears and worries in
minimal conditions and by
self-chastisement. This
contemplative character
is depicted in the music
as if it isalmost
standing still, which
also reflects the given
character of this
planet. Jupiter
represents growth and
expansion: the positive,
self-confidence, the good
Samaritan, the healer.
Jupiter is the
philosopher who will make
the world a betterplace,
sees future
possibilities, and
searches for eternal
values. He is the prophet
who sometimes rants and
raves his doctrine and
proclamations, resulting
musically in a whirling
and upbeat finale. not
looking back at what has
been but searchingfor new
challenges.

astrologische compositie.
Astrologie is
gebaseerd op het principe
dat elke tijd zijn eigen
kwaliteit heeft. Tijd
voor koffie of het was je
tijd nog niet als
bijvoorbeeld een baan aan
je neus voorbij is
gegaan. Om de
kwaliteit van een moment
te lezen kijkt
deastroloog naar de stand
van de planeten in ons
zonnestelsel op dat
tijdstip. Elke planeet
heeft specifieke
energieën en de plaats
aan de hemel geeft unieke
informatie over een
bepaald moment op aarde.
Oftewel: de stand aan de
hemel (Ouranos)
verteltiets over wat er
op aarde (Gaia)
gebeurt.
In deze
compositie worden de
energieën van vier
planeten muzikaal
vertaald. De vier
planeten zijn niet
lukraak gekozen. Het zijn
twee paren, die qua
invloed en energie
tegenovergesteldzijn.
Venus en Mars.
Venus vertegenwoordigt
het vrouwelijke principe:
harmonieus, schoonheid,
de kunst, het vermogen om
verbindingen aan te gaan
en de vrede te bewaren.
Venus geeft door en
verbindt om de balans te
bewaren.
Marsvertegenwoordigt het
mannelijke principe:
winnen, anderen
aftroeven, impulsief en
enthousiast, seksuele
energie voor de
voortplanting. Mars
creëert oorlog om de
sterkste te laten
zegevieren. Venus
staat tot Mars als vrede
staat tot oorlog,
alsverbinden staat tot
verbreken, als harmonie
staat tot
competitie.
Jupiter en Saturnus.
Jupiter vertegenwoordigt
groei en expansie: het
positieve zelfvertrouwen,
de weldoener, de genezer.
Jupiter is de filosoof
die de wereld
wilverbeteren,
vooruitkijkend en zoekend
naar eeuwige waarden, de
profeet die soms al te
bombastisch zijn leer
verkondigt. Saturnus
vertegenwoordigt
concentratie en
inkrimping: het sterke
verantwoordelijkheidsbese
f, soberheid,
zelfdiscipline
enmelancholie. Saturnus
is de kluizenaar die
onder minimale
voorwaarden en
zelfkastijding zijn
angsten wil overwinnen.
De harde, serieuze werker
die volgens vaste regels
stug doorgaat om aan zijn
hoge eisen te voldoen.
Jupiter staat tot
Saturnusals uitbreiding
staat tot inkrimping, als
zelfvertrouwen staat tot
faalangst, als vrijheid
staat tot
structuur.

Many
moments had come and gone
from this Earth…But
not a single one could
ever amount to this
moment…The moment
when the silence was
forever broken. The
reason a multitude of
Heavenly Hosts began
rejoicing in resplendent
song. The moment when
hope, grace, and mercy
were granted to every
nation. The one special
moment when a sweet Child
was born, laid in a
manger, and wrapped in
cloths…The moment
when Glory touched Earth.
Bringing this powerful,
revolutionary moment to
the forefront of every
mind this Christmas is
this new
multi-generational
musical from Word
Music & Church
Resources,
Glory Touching
Earth. With songs of
worship and adoration,
praise and glory, Cliff
Duren has arranged this
masterpiece into a
seamless Christmas
Musical that will bring
every voice in your choir
and congregation together
as one to celebrate the
birth of our Savior.

A
beautiful extract from
Garrop's major oratorio
Terra Nostra, set to the
poem by Walt Whitman.
Terra Nostra considers,
through texts and poems,
the world as it was,
humanity's rise and
impact on the Earth, and
a cautious hope for a
reawakening of our bond
with this planet. The
Whitman poem celebrates
our love for an earlier,
more natural Earth - the
Earth as it should
be.

Earth
, Wind & Fire was
formed by jazz drummer
Maurice White, whose aim
was to mix various music
styles to produce a
unique sound. Combined
with excellent song
writing and fine
performances this sound
made Earth, Wind &
Fire one of the most
influential soul groups
of the seventies. In
subsequent decades they
experienced varying
success but this medley
reflects the heyday of
this legendary group. In
his job as staff arranger
with the Royal Marine
Band of the Dutch Navy,
Peter Kleine Schaars
wrote many top-class
arrangements. The talent
of the musicians in the
band made it possible to
write in such a way that
they closely resembled
the original works.
Consequently, this medley
shines just like the
original versions by
Earth, Wind & Fire.
Four famous songs have
been used: In the Stone,
Got to Get You into My
Life, After the Love Has
Gone and September.
