Górecki's Church Songs, based on melodies from Rev Jan Siedlecki's ?piewniki Ko?cielne ('church songbooks'), were composed in 1986. This edition is based on the PWM edition of 2013, which was produced with the assistance of Anna Górecka and Miko?aj Górecki. A special feature of the Boosey publications is the new, alternative Latin sung text by Edward Tambling, which will be attractive to the many choirs who do not wish to sing in Polish. The Latin text is carefully crafted to fit Górecki's score and is both poetic and sensitive to the devotional aspect of the songs. English translations from the Polish are also included, for reference only.The three publications present the songs for sacred use according to devotional subject-matter. In concert performances the songs, or a selection of them, may be performed in any order and combination. Vol 1 contains six songs in praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The seven songs in vol 2 take the themes of Good Friday, the Crucifixion, The Cross of Christ and the Resurrection. Vol 3 contains seven songs in praise of St Joseph, St Anne and St Nicholas, the Blessed Sacrament, the Trinity and the Black Madonna of Cz?stochowa. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) A Cappella

A new engraving of Thomas Attwood's delightful miniature, Come Holy Ghost , this piece is suitable for Whitsundtide or for general use. Thomas Attwood (1765-1838) is perhaps best known as the composer of such charming miniatures as Come, Holy Ghost , which is in essence a simple, threeverse hymn. Its elegant melody, first sung by soprano, then by a chorus (or quartet and chorus) is reminiscent of Mozart's delicate masterpiece, Ave verum corpus . This is perhaps unsurprising -Attwood took composition lessons from Mozart in Vienna, and one of his contemporaries quotes Mozart as saying: 'He partakes more of my style than any scholar I ever had - and I predict, that he will prove a sound musician.' Attwood worked closely with the royal family throughout his life. He taught music to the Prince of Wales, was appointed composer and eventually organist to the Chapel Royal, and organist at St Paul's Cathedral (he is buried under the organ there). Arranged for SATB, here are five all-time classic Christmas songs with a warm and nostalgic feeling.O Holy Night and Silent Night both originated in 19th century Europe while Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas was introduced by Judy Garland in a 1944 Hollywood musical. Silver Bells was a 1950 Livingston-Evans pop hit but surely the most famous of them all is Irving Berlin's White Christmas, the 1940 song for which its composer had high hopes the moment he completed it. Par HARVEY JONATHAN. The text of this work is by Bishop J Cosin, based on Veni Creator Spiritus. The music is based on a pentatonic chord throughout, and reflects the floating rhythms of plainchant. The piece builds to a wonderful and ecstatic climax using a set of aleatoric overlapping vocal phrases. Commissioned by 1984 Southern Cathedrals Festivaland first performed at Winchester Cathedral in June 1984.
