This organ reduction is intended to use instead of the original orchestral accompaniment- it is compatible with new edition of Requiem da Camera by Christian Alexander (BH 12681). The organ reduction was done by Francis Jackson, doyen of English cathedral organists and titulaire at York Minster for 36 years.Jackson sympathetically recreates the chamber orchestra scoring for a three-manual organ. Ingeniously, the manual couplings (II to III, II and III to I) are unaltered throughout, with pedal coupled to manuals as appropriate. Detailed registrations are not indicated as these are best left to the performer, taking into account the unique circumstances of the particular instrument, size of choir and acoustic setting at each individual performance.The user-friendly landscape score includes at least one principal vocal line cued throughout, and a cappella choral passages are reproduced in full.Requiem da Camera was Finzi's first extended work- only the instrumental prelude was performed during his lifetime. The other three movements are settings of poems by John Masefield, Thomas Hardy and Wilfrid Wilson Gibson. Scored for baritone solo, small chorus (or SATB soli) and chamber orchestra, the wellspring of the Requiem's composition was the death, during active service in 1918, of Finzi's composition teacher, Ernest Farrar. The work may also be viewed as a metaphor - the permanence of the land, and a centuries-old pattern of rural life following the rhythm of the turning seasons, contrasted with the violent havoc and destructive dislocation wrought by war. This collection of jazz ensemble arrangements is made up of direct transcriptions of big band recordings by Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington. Arranger Jeff Hest has meticulously transcribed these jazz standards (with the original instrumentation of each famous band) and has included transcriptions of the improvised solos. The album contains original compositions and first publications as well as arrangements for organ and twelve pieces for communion in settings by Johann Sebastian Bach with melodies and texts appropriate to communion. Some of the pieces can also be performed with solo instruments (in C, Bb or F). Corresponding instrumental parts are included with the score.

The unacquainted listener, upon hearing a piece from the Hahn piano repertoire, is often surprised by its powerful charm - a testament to the composer' s unique musical sensibility. Although some of Hahn' s musical ideas have roots in the long tradition of Romanticism, they also present a host of new images, scarcely seen in earlier scores Each piece in this collection is based on a single formula that varies little from start to finish. An exception to this unique principle occurs in the IInd piece, where the young woman takes fright at the ' flaming red eye of the setting sun watching her through the branches”. As a conclusion, Reynaldo Hahn offers a ' very free” cadence that takes up and comments on the initial theme: the crackling notes culminate in a fortissimo blaze, rapidly followed by a progressive lull that slowly fades away./ Répertoire / Piano

Par MCHUGH JIMMY. 'I'm in the Mood for Love' is today a 'standard' song released in 1935. The music was written by Jimmy McHugh, with lyrics by Dorothy Fields. The song was introduced by Frances Langford in the film 'Every Night at Eight' and released that year. It became Langford's signature song. Bob Hope, who often worked with Langford entertaining troops in World War II, later wrote that her performance of the song was often the show-stopper. This is one of the most recorded songs out there, from contemporary Billy Eilish to legends such as Luis Armstrong, Vera Lynn and Charlie Parker. The tune started as film music and has later been used in movies such as 'The Nutty Professor' and in “The Spike Jones Show”. Please try to create a 'ballroom' atmosphere around this song. It is possible to expand the solo part with more soloists (45 – 69) and you can choose whether you want to let everyone in part 3 play what is written, or let each one improvise. If you have piano or guitar, you can also let the bass line go together with them and cut out the wind parts. Use the score as a starting point to create an instrumentation that suits your ensemble! (Should some parts only be played by woodwind or brass?) There are quite a few additional notes in the chords. Therefore, balance is very important. Huilukonsertto. Par ENGLUND EINAR. Einar Englund?s (1916-1999) Flute Concerto (1985) is beyond dispute one of his greatest works. Its finest attributes are its rich melodic invention, colourful instrumentation and immediate message. Add to these its rewarding solo part, and the result is truly one of his best concertos ? and works. He himself did not hesitate to regard it as such. It was premiered in Helsinki on September 16, 1985, having been completed at Ljugarn on the Swedish island of Gotland at the end of June. The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Leif Segerstam, and the soloist was the concerto?s dedicatee, Mikael Helasvuo. The Flute Concerto opens with a Ritornello in which the flute's playful, dance-like passages make sharp contrast with the orchestra's heroic stance. In the mellow Canzona which follows, the flute plays rhapsodically over repetitive orchestral figures. The work's 'action-packed' finale hints at parody in its military march-like opening, but also gives rein to the lyricism already familiar from the second movement. In spite of the most enthusiastic reception at the work's premiere, the famous pianist and conductor Hans von Bülow criticized Verdi's Messa da Requiem as 'an opera in ecclesiastical robes?. Nonetheless, or maybe precisely for this quality, the work has conquered concert podiums worldwide.For this scholarly-critical edition, the editor has consulted no less than 16 sources, many more than were ever used for any other edition of the Requiem - some of these sources were never evaluated before and one source, a hand-written vocal score, particularly relevant to the evaluation of the 'Liber scriptus?, was newly discovered.As such, this edition offers new philological and editorial decisions regarding phrasing, articulation and dynamics and succeeds in presenting practical suggestions to solve musical problems and those concerning the interpretation of this famous work.This edition comprises a concise Critical Commentary in the score. The most important editions published in the 19th century are compared with regard to musicological questions in the work. The genesis of some misunderstandings included in the 1913 and 1964 Ricordi editions is traced. Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, written to a libretto by Salvadore Cammarano, was first performed at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples on 26 September 1835. It has remained in the repertory without interruption as one of Donizetti’s most popular operas throughout its nearly 200-year history. The edition proposes as the principal text a version of the opera that, for the most part, is as near as possible to that given at the premiere in Naples. However, one of the important new features of the edition is that it includes several fully orchestrated passages that, for unknown reasons, were cancelled very close to the time of the first performance. It also features in the third-act mad scene an obbligato part for the glass harmonica, an instrument that Donizetti had chosen for this extraordinary scene, and drafted in his autograph score, but was then constrained to substitute with a solo flute when the glass harmonica player got into contractual difficulties with the theatre. While the glass harmonica part was considered a mere “musicological curiosity” some decades ago, the critical edition now convincingly argues for its legitimate restoration as part of the composer’s preferred concept. The Sources section of the edition includes a detailed examination of all contemporary sources for the opera. The composer’s autograph score is of course the most important of these, but also of great value is the first printed vocal score of the opera, which in some numbers has a piano reduction prepared by the composer and contains many vocal variants (all reported in the score) that will be a great value to performers. There are also a number of early manuscript copies of the full score, several of which are valuable in outlining the first interpretations of Donizetti’s music. The critical edition restores the original keys, thus maintaining Donizetti’s overall harmonic design, but discusses transpositions that later entered the performing and editorial tradition of the opera.
