Within each section the

Dorian, and blues scales
and correlated chords of
that key are introduced
through Jazz Starters,
Rhythm Section
Spotlights, and Rhythm

run. Chords are
introduced one at a time,
allowing students to
gradually master their
harmonic
understanding. Rhythm
Figures, taken from the
jazz ensemble charts,
help students to develop
their understanding of
the phrasing and
articulations unique to
jazz. Improvisation
Practice gives students
the opportunity to apply
what they learned in the
Scale, Pitch Set, chord
and Rhythm Figure
exercises. Let's
Check Progress motivates
students by allowing them
to chart their
growth. Spotlights
develop the individual
skills of rhythm section
players. Instrument-s
pecific recordings for
all Jazz Starters,
charts, and Lead Sheets
are provided online in
the First Place for Jazz
Interactive Practice
Studio. Rhythm
Sectionals build the

the Jazz Ensemble Charts
step-by-step. Jazz
Ensemble Charts cover
rock, swing, and Latin
styles, applying what
students learn in the
Jazz Starters,
Spotlights, and Rhythm
Sectionals. Books for
alto sax, tenor sax,
trumpet, and trombone
include both lead and
second parts on facing
pages allowing all
students on each
instrument to use the

Martin & Co.'s reign
as America's oldest and
most revered guitarmaker
- viewed through a
selection of images,
correspondence,
documents, and reproduced
artifacts chosen from
some 700,000 items the
company has amassed over
nearly two centuries.
Many of these have lain
unseen in the Martins'
attic or vault for
generations. From the
concert halls of the
pre-Civil War United
States to the Grand Ole
Opry stage to Woodstock,
Coachella, and beyond,
Martin's instruments have
been on hand to give
voice to the human
spirit. The Martin
Archives offers insights
into those instruments
and the persons who made
them, as well as the
times the Martins lived
through. While some
guitarmakers predate the
advent of the business
computer, Martin predates
the typewriter, electric
lights, and even the
steam locomotive, and its
archives reveal what an
interesting ride that's
been. In addition to all
that is on its pages, The
Martin Archives also
contains pockets with
reproductions of
illuminating bits of its
history, including old
company records, letters
from stars such as Gene
Autry and Jimmie Rodgers,
the purchase order for
the first D-45 guitar, a
handwritten history of
the company on its 100th

palpable delights. $45.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 24 hours - In Stock

major. Larry Clark
does it again with this
tuneful new feel good
piece. You and your
students will walk away
humming this tune. There
is even a nice
contrasting lyrical
middle section in the
relative minor to break
up the
piece. Solstice: one
of two times in the year
when the sun is at its
greatest distancefrom the
celestial equator.A
solstice happens at the
mid-point of summer,
about June 21, and the
midpoint of winter, about
December 22. Each of
those times of year is
delightful. The carefree
days of summer have just
begun around June 21,
when the mind wanders to
long bike rides or walks
on the beach. During the
winter solstice the mind
is filled with all of the
delights that the holiday
season has to offer.
Either way, a solstice is
a joyous and fun filled
time of year, and this
piece is intended to
bring to mind some of
these wonderful times.
The main theme should be
performed in a light
carefree manner, which is
then contrasted by the
more lyrical and
passionate middle
section.As with all of my
pieces for younger
students, the tempo
indicated is merely a
guide. Adjust the tempo
to fit the needs of your
students. It has been my
pleasure to have the
opportunity to write this
piece. I hope you and
your students enjoy it
and find it useful for

singer Reynaldo Hahn
(1875-1947) owes his
early successes to the
?songs for voice and
piano? genre, whose
raison d?etre he defines
in his journal as
follows: ?To highlight a
poem, word for word but
without uniformity; to
emphasize its meaning
without distorting it; to
shine light upon one
idea, obscure another and
present it all in vocal,
sung form; to produce a
sharp, precise sensation
by touching a heartstring
or evoking an image - all
in a well-structured and
tastefully written
piece?. Enhanced by an
audio version attached as
a download card, this
anthology of songs should
dispel a good many
misconceptions. This is
no salon miniature:
L?Heure exquise radiates
an infinite tenderness,
exalted by the high vocal
cadences of O Bien-Aimee!
and C?est l?heure
exquise, which surely
wrought tears from the
author of the verses,
Verlaine. Tyndaris, the
jewel of Heures latines,
clears a crystal-clear
space given over to the
delights of slumber and
of love. Like D?une

songs do more than wet
the eyes: they grip the
heart.. $23.55 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks

Legend of the Brown
Mountain Lights is
inspired by the many
ghost stories that have
come from the mysterious
occurrence of lights on
Brown Mountain (Burke
County, North Carolina).
These mysterious
phenomena appear during
evenings in autumn. Many
have seen the lights, but
the exact cause remains a
mystery. The origin of
the lights has inspired
numerous legends. As We
Search: Legend of the
Brown Mountain Lights
focuses on one legend
from the nineteenth
century. After a local
woman went missing,
though murder was
suspected, villagers
engaged in a search of
the mountain. Having
never been found, it is
said the search
continues, and ghostly
echoes of the search
lights can still be seen
on Brown Mountain to this
day. NOTES TO CONDUCTOR
The duration of the
composition is five
minutes at the marked
tempo. Careful attention
should be given to
articulations, dynamic
changes and phrasing
throughout the work. The
entire work is based on
the idea first stated by
the bells in m. 12. Each
time the idea is
restated, stronger
development occurs around
it building to m. 74.
Attention should be given
to the dissonance that
resolves in mm. 5-6,
9-10, 17-18, 21-22,
41-42, 45-46, 76-77 and
80-81. The climax of the
piece is m. 81,
representing the moment
the villagers think they
have found the lost
woman. Measure 82 to the
end continues a fading
trend as if people are
forgetting about the
legend of the Brown
Mountain Lights. Measure
110 carrying into m. 111
is meant to be
unresolved. Even though
the legend has faded over
time, the lights still

Paris Dedicated to
Arditti Quartet Each
movement of this quartet
explores a single state,
its lights and its
shadows. Each movement,
you could say, is a
moment . And these
moments could last for
more or less time without
compromising their
essential nature. The
processes could be
extended or compressed,
repeated or reversed, but
the core ideas - if they
are ideas, but maybe they
are simply experiences? -
are what they are.
Despite this, the precise
sequence of movements
matters a great deal.
Heard together they do
articulate some kind of
linear narrative, maybe
even a metaphorical
journey (albeit a
circular one where the
arrival might, who knows,
prove to be a new
departure). One situation
gives way to another and
instrumental
relationships within the
quartet vary, but
ultimately the
imaginative impulse
behind the piece
preferences states of
unity. Whether or not
this unity is expressed
texturally - sometimes
literal unisons pervade,
but not always - there is
generally a sense that
even seemingly diverse
aspects relate to a
fundamental condition of
concord: a conscious
limitation in the pitch
structure to spectral
emanations of the root
notes E-flat and C. At
the opening this is
unambiguously audible in
the perpetual alternation
of these two notes in the
low cello register. Later
the two spectra are woven
into a micro-tonal
'double-spectral-mode'
(derived from the first
24 partials of the C and
E-flat fundamentals),
which defines the subtle
melodic inflection of the
second movement, and the
never-quite-chromatic
ascending scales of the
third. For now this feels
like a rich source of
melodic possibility, so
far only just glimpsed...
And why the insistence on
E-flat? Probably by way
of historical anecdote.
Apparently Karl Holz (a
member of the
Schuppanzigh Quartet)
said to Beethoven: We
performed your Quartet in
E-flat Op. 127 in his
[Weber's] honour; he
found the Adagio too
long; but I told him:
Beethoven also has a
longer feeling and a
longer imagination than
anyone standing or not
standing today. - Since
then, even Linke (another
member of the quartet)
can no longer stand him:
we cannot forgive him for
this. Listening again to
Op. 127, in light of
these comments, I was
struck by the opening
moment: the unfolding of
an E-flat 7th chord over
the course of a few bars.
Every time I hear it I
find myself wishing that
Beethoven would have
lingered longer there,
without resolution or
progression, just
enjoying that sonority.
And maybe - why not? -
tune the 7th naturally.
And what would it be to
stretch that moment into
an entire piece? What
would Weber think of
that?! In the end I was
not so extreme in my
self-limitation, and
other concerns took over,
but it was from these
thoughts that the
composition process
began... Lastly, about
the title: it comes from
a book called 'The Clock
of the Long Now' by
Stewart Brand, published
at the turn of the
millennium. It's about
the creation of a
thousand-year clock to
embody the aspiration to
thinking in terms of
longer time-spans than
are presently habitual.
If the music of Beethoven
embodied a 'longer'
feeling and imagination
than some of his
contemporaries were able
to appreciate, what is
our relation to time now?
Longer or shorter? Maybe
it depends who you ask...
It's probably more
extreme in both
directions: attention
spans might be
diminishing in the
digital world, but
conversely there is an
awareness of distant
pasts and potential
futures which would have
been inconceivable at the
time of Beethoven. In any
case, the interesting
thing is to ponder how
societal conditions,
assumptions and
expectations might -
whether consciously or
unconsciously - influence
the time of art, for
listeners and creators
alike. And what if time
is running out?
