As one of the most important letter-writers of the 19th century, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy maintained an extensive correspondence. With great style and eloquence he wrote letters to friends and family, letters from his travels and he also wrote to leading composers, musicians, artists as well as publishers. He corresponded with famous contemporaries such as Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner as well as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Carl Friedrich Zelter and Alexander von Humboldt.

The correspondence begins in 1816 and ends in 1847 with the composer’s death. These letters are invaluable documents shedding light not only on the genesis, publication and revision of his musical works, but also on a period when relations between Christians and Jews still had a chance to become harmonious, as Moses Mendelssohn, the imminent scholar and grandfather of the composer had advocated.

For Teresa   was commissioned by Tim Suter for his wife, Helen, as part of William Howard’s Love Songs Project and was first performed privately by William Howard for her 60th birthday in February 2017. He gave the public premiere at Hoxton Hall, London on 26th April 2017. The music is based on the notes T E S (E flat) A of the Christian name of the composer’s wife, Teresa Cahill.  The music works towards a quotation of the opening of Beethoven’s Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor,  Für Elise  (which also uses letters from the name Therese, H being B natural in German nomenclature), a piece which, it is now thought, was originallytitled  Für Therese  and possibly composed for Theresa Malfatti, to whom Beethoven unsuccessfully proposed marriage in 1810, but recent musicology has suggested other possible dedicatees.

Jacques-Martin Hotteterre (1673 - 1763) was the heir to a famous family of wind instrument inventors originating in Normandy, France. The Hotteterre family is known to have brought great innovations to the development of wind instruments, including the three-part demountable flute and the oboe, whose invention is credited to his grandfather Jean. Jacques-Martin Hotteterre was perhaps the most gifted of his dynasty, with his father Martin, a renowned flute craftsman who created instruments used by Jean-Baptiste Lully.

His nickname Roman was given to him following a stay in Rome. He was identified as Monsù Giacomo mastro di flauto (Monsieur Jacques master of flute), as documented at the court of The Marquis Francesco Maria Ruspoli in Rome.

David Lasocki was born in London in 1947 and grew up in Manchester. Then he lived and worked in the United States and now Brazil. He holds a PhD in musicology from The University of Iowa (1983) and his dissertation won a national prize. He retired as Head of Music Reference Services in the Cook Music Library, Indiana University–Bloomington in 2011 after working there for 24 years, and is now a self-employed writer, researcher, editor, publisher (see www.instantharmony.net), and energy healer.

Many kind people have viewed David as one of the world’s foremost researchers of the history of woodwind instruments, especially members of the flute family. His articles and books have also won national prizes, and he received a lifetime achievement award from the American Recorder Society in 2011.

Harr i Vuori's Chiroptera (2017) for guitar embraces the instrument with several compositional solutions born from the attributes of the guitar. Dedicated to Patrik Kleemola this 12 minutes work is devided in three movements. The textures of Chiroptera are complex but their build-up, fade-out, measuring and timing of these changes is clearly defined and understandable. According to the composer the name Chiroptera has the same beautiful sound as the composition in whole. In addition he currently lives in an area populated with lots of bats both in the woods and in the atticks. Harri Vuori (b. 1957) studied composition with Paavo Heininen, Eero Hameenniemi and Einojuhani Rautavaara at the Sibelius Academy. He has been composer in residence of the Hyvinkaa Orchestra since 1997 and has taught in the Department of Musicology at the University of Helsinki since 1993. Hidden away in Gabrieli's Sacrae Symphoniae of 1597, among forty-five vocal compositions, lie sixteen works that make up one of the first great monuments of instrumental ensemble music; fourteen canzoni and two sonatas that surpass any of their genre at that time, and that were only rarely matched in the following decades, most often by Gabrieli himself. Mengelberg speeds up and slows down excessively. Toscanini takes it twice as fast as it should be and broadens the tempo at the close, which is indicated nowhere. No: the Bolero should be played in one single tempo from the beginning to the end, in the plaintive and monotonous style of Spanish-Arabian melodies. The performance material to Ravel's Bolero can now also be purchased in its entirety for the first time.
