Par FAURE GABRIEL. This volume of 'oeuvres complètes de Gabriel Fauré” contains Fauré's four secular choral works in their orchestral arrangements, namely 'Les Djinns”, 'La Naissance de Vénus”, 'Madrigal”, and 'Pavane”. These works were composed between 1876 and 1887 - thereafter Fauré wrote choral compositions based only on sacred texts. The first three works are presented here for the first time in a full score edition, previously having been published only in their versions with piano accompaniment. This edition is therefore the first to present the works with an authoritative musical text based on the careful study of the sources.
'Les Djinns” (1876-76) for mixed choir and orchestra is based on the famous poem by Victor Hugo first published in the collection 'Les Orientales”, while 'La Naissance de Vénus” (1882) for soloists, choir and orchestra is based on a text by Paul Collin. 'Madrigal”, the orchestral version of which cannot be dated with certainty (around 1891, for a quartet of soloists or choir) has been composed after a poem by Armand Silvestre, and the famous 'Pavane”, originally composed for orchestra and only later supplemented with a text by Symbolist poet Robert de Montesquiou, is presented here in an elegant, graceful version with mixed choir. / Date parution : 2019-06-20/ Répertoire / Chant et Orchestre

Edition de Gerald Hoekstra
In 1597 the Antwerp printer Pierre Phalèse issued what was to be his last new anthology of chansons, Le Rossignol musical des chansons for the enjoyment of those who delight in singing in the French tongue. Like his great madrigal anthologies of the 1580s, this collection for four, five, and six voices exhibits a wide variety of secular song styles of the time. Texts range from the conservative and somewhat moralistic to the risqué and playful, and musical styles from the homophonic, rhythmic manner associated with the Parisian chanson to the more polyphonic and expressive style of the Italian madrigal. Composers include local Antwerp musicians such as Pevernage and Cornet, Netherlanders working abroad such as Rogier and Monte, and Frenchmen such as Le Jeune and Caignet. Although a few of the pieces had been published previously, most are unique to this print.

Par BUXTEHUDE DIETRICH. Das neugeborne Kindelein (The newborn babe, the heavenly child) (BuxWV 13) for Mixed choir (SATB), Strings, Basso continuo Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707) was Organist of the St Marien church in Lubeck from 1668 until his death. He wrote many works for specific secular occasions, feasts and celebrations etc. and although his positon did not require him to compose vocal music he left over 120 vocal works in a wide range of scorings, style and length. Almost all texts are sacred and scorings vary from a single voice with instrument to nine voices with several instruments and continuo. Dietrich Buxtehude's Cantata forfour part chorus is suited remarkably well for the Christmas services as well as the general religious services which choruses take part in every year. This opulent-sounding work possesses its every own special Christmas magic.
