This
impressive work was
composed for the
Dutch-Friesian city of
Leeuwarden, which was
considered the
‘cultural
capital’ of
Europe, 2018; the
composer spent his
college years in this
city. This festive work
for bagpipes, drums and
fanfare band is based on
the melody of the anthem
of the province of
Friesland. Proud
was written for the music
event, Grutsk, which is
the Friesian word for
proud hence the title.
Various bands have
performed on five
different stages across
the town centre. The
finale was performed in a
concert held at
Wilhelminaplein
(Wilhelmina Square),
which opened with this
work. This world premiere
was conducted by the
composer himself. The
bagpipes areoptional, but
advisable. As a whole,
they give the composition
a very special sound.
Dit

The LP-UNF
is an ultra-nearfield
desktop studio monitor
system designed to be
used in small spaces
where the ability to get
loud is limited, either
by room acoustics or the
tolerance of neighbors.
The LP-UNF presents
full-range audio at
reference levels with
plenty of headroom at 0.8
meters, or about arm's
length. The system is
made up of a primary and
secondary speaker, each
with a 4.5-inch high
excursion woofer and
1-inch dome tweeter. The
LP-UNF features USB-C,
TRS, RCA, and Bluetooth
inputs for seamless
integration into your
deskscape. The LP-UNF
uses much of the same
technology as Kali's
best-selling LP-6 and
LP-8 V2 speakers. A 3-D
imaging waveguide is
employed to create a
detailed, lifelike stereo
image where all of the
elements of the mix can
be clearly perceived in
space. The large
front-firing port tube
uses a unique fluid
dynamics derived shape
that eliminates port
noise and compression.
This allows you to place
the speakers against
walls without worrying
about adverse effects on
the port's performance.
The USB-C input lets
users who aren't
recording use the LP-UNF
without a separate
interface. You'll enjoy
pristine sound with
24-bit/48kHz conversion.
This makes the LP-UNF an
excellent choice for
traveling setups or as a
floating pair of speakers
in dynamic recording
situations. The LP-UNF is
uniquely tuned for its
role as a desktop
speaker. The desk is

acoustic element of the

From majestic
to pastoral to
dance-like, Land of the
Long White Cloud is
Philip Sparke's
representation of New
Zealand. This piece is a
wonderful addition to the
concert band
repetoire.
Long
before Europeans ventured
out of sight of land, the
bold and restless
ancestors of the Maori
people were making
voyages of thousands of
miles across the world's
greatest oceans. It was
around 1000 AD that they
landed in New Zealand.
The discovery of New
Zealand is attributed in
Maori tradition to Kupe
and the circumstances of
the landfall gave the
country its Maori name.
As land was approached, a
long, flat volcanic cloud
could be seen. Kupe's
wife Hine-te-aparangi,
looked to the horizon and
cried out, He ao! He ao!
A cloud! A cloud! The
name of Aotearoa was
given to the islands -
The Land of the Long
White Cloud. Land of the
Long White Cloud was
originally conceived as a
brass band work as a
result of a commission by
the New Zealand Brass
Band Association for
their National
Championships held in
1980 in Christchurch.
This transcription by the
composer was commissioned
by Keith Allen and
Birmingham Schools' Wind
Orchestra who gave the
first performance in the
Adrian Boult Hall,
Birmingham, England on
Sunday 15 May 1988.
