Wunderkind-Sonatas Volume II K. 10-15 Editor: Wolf-Dieter Seiffert Fingering: A...(+)
Wunderkind-Sonatas Volume II K. 10-15 Editor: Wolf-Dieter Seiffert Fingering: Ariane Haering In 1764 the eight-year-old Mozart wrote the Sonatas K. 10-15 in London. Leopold Mozart was only able to understand his son's musical genius in terms of it being a God-given wonder: That my boy [...] knows all of this with his 8 years that could be expected of a man of forty years. In short: whoever has not seen or heard it, cannot believe it. According to the title page the six sonatas can either be played as piano trios, violin sonatas or simply piano solo. As we have already published them in the form of piano trios and violin sonatas (HN 1078), we are now presenting them in an Urtext edition for piano solo. Sonata C Major K. 309
(284b) G. Henle
Piano Sonata C major K. 309 (284b) Editor: Ernst Herttrich Fingering: Hans-Mart...(+)
Piano Sonata C major K. 309 (284b) Editor: Ernst Herttrich Fingering: Hans-Martin Theopold I wish to do it to reflect the character of Mad:selle Rose, Mozart replied when asked how he intended to set out the Andante of his Sonata in C major. In autumn 1777 he had got to know Rosina Cannabich in Mannheim and during her lessons immediately introduced her to the Sonata K. 309 that he had composed for her. Indeed, in December 1777 according to her teacher she was already able to perform it excellently. So that a great many other pupils might follow in her footsteps, we are now publishing this small gem that shows Mozartâs great skill in composing for the piano as a single edition with a new preface by the editor; it was previously only available in the complete volumes (HN 1 and 3). FIRST MOVEMENT The first movement of the C major Sonata K 309 is a model teaching sonata form structure. With sonata forms, as with Bach fugues, no formal dogmas underlie the process of composition, but each sonata varies anew a basic principle. For Mozart, this entailed strict adherence to certain fundamental patterns without his creative freedom. In his sonata movements in major keys, for example he favoured a distinct second subject in the dominant as most contemporary composers did. Haydn, on the other hand, reveled in experiment at this point. A brief analysis may help to demonstrate Mozart's standard sonata allegro form and the first movement of it is an ideal example for such an investigation. The first subject is a distinctive, marcato opening followed by a five-bar response. The falling fourth and rising sixth of the opening is one of Mozart's favourite motifs, his common melodic device. He often uses it in the minor as well as the major, and many of his themes start with this motif (e.g. the second movement of the A major Sonata K 331, the Adagio in B minor K 540, and subjects in the Symphonies K 114, 124, 319/II and 551/II). The seven measures of the main theme are repeated, slightly varied. Measures 15 to 21 conclude the first subject group with an answering phrase (3+3 bars). The transition consists of new material and then, in measure 35 (after two measures of preparation comes a second cantabile theme, in the dominant (G major) comprising 2x4 bars, which is also repeated and proceeds to a spirited closing theme (concluding group) using passage-work (m. 43) and incorporating a delightful diminuation of measures 35 36 in measure 45. The exposition ends with a codetta of five bars. The development presents the opening motif first in g minor, and then the various ideas of the first subject are worked out. With this procedure Mozart is keeping much more closely to textbook principles than he usually does. Two further statements of the opening motif lead back to the recapitulation in measure 94. The second subject, now in the tonic, has surprisingly changed place with its accompaniment. The opening is recalled again in an effectively assertive coda. SECOND MOVEMENT The second movement of this sonata is an introspective Andante un poco adagio. In a letter Mozart stated his desire to make this Andante match the character of the young pianist Rosa Cannabich for whom he wrote it: ...she is a sweet, pretty girl, just like the andante. For her age she is sensible and level-headed; she is serious, and doesn't talk too much, though what she says is pleasing and sympathetic. THIRD MOVEMENT An elegant and smoothly flowing Rondo of unusually large proportions concludes this Sonata. Paul and Eva Badura-Skoda

Scarlatti composed operas cantatas symphonias andliturgical pieces but his 555 keyboard sonatas are most well-known; a vast collection of single movements in binary form. Lily Afshar's arrangement of Sonata K. 11 (a favorite of Segovia) utilizes staccato articulationreminiscent of the harpsichord and othertechniques including cross-string trills and minimal slurs. The pair of sonatas work well together written in E minor and E major.Sylvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750) wasthe most accomplished Lutenist of the Baroque period and the most prolific composer of Lute music writing over one thousand pieces for the instrument. The four pieces arranged in this book show the beautiful polyphony andfantastical writing of Weiss. Afshar utilizes campanella (cross-string) fingerings throughout to emphasize the musical line and produce a fuller sound on the instrument.

Vol 1 Ut 50226 + Vol 2 Ut 50227-For more than 200 years Mozart’s piano sonatas have been part of every pianist’s repertoire. Research done over the last few decades has made it possible however to establish more accurate dating and ordering of these works. Expert examination of original documents has shown that many printed editions from the eighteenth Century give more reliable detail than Mozart’s own written scores; many of these works were prepared for publication by the composer himself and marked with precise indications for performance with regard to ornamentation dynamics and articulation. All this together with the rediscovery of documents that only becameaccessible again at the end of the 20th Century gives reason enough to justify the publication of a new Wiener Urtext edition of Mozart’s Piano Sonatas. To follow the second volume published in the spring of 2003 with Sonatas K 330 to K 576 we now present the first volume which contains the Sonatas K 279 to K 311. For Sonata K 284 variation XI in the final movement is given both in the version that appears in the original manuscript and in the version used in the first edition; in order to make the music easier to read both versions are given in normal print size. Music that is clear and well laid out with page turns in convenient places makes this edition extremely user-friendly.Advice on performance by the renowned Mozart specialist Robert D. Levin provides fresh stimulus for what can otherwise too often become a rather tired interpretation.

PIANO SONATA NO. 1 was written in 1955. Fiser worked on it during his last year at the Prague Conservatoire under the supervision of Emil Hlobil. The piece is one of Fiser?s early works which still respect a traditional compositional approach. Unlike his major and late piano sonatas, this sonata has three movements, each representing the traditional Classical-Romantic form. The sonata was premiered by Fiser?s fellow-student and friend Antonín Jemelík in Theatre D34 on 30 January 1956. The new setting for this piece is based on the single edition to date (SNKLHU, 1957) only with regard to a few inconsistencies in the score was it necessary to consult the composer?s manuscript (kept at the National Museum ? Czech Museum of Music, acquisition number 297/2006). H 7911, ISMN 979-2601-0445-7

: Piano Sonata C major K.
309 (284b) Piano seul [Partition] G. Henle

| Fiser Lubos - Sonata Iv Piano seul [Partition] Barenreiter
PIANO SONATA NO. 4 from the years 1962?1964 is dedicated to the memory of Fiser?...(+)
PIANO SONATA NO. 4 from the years 1962?1964 is dedicated to the memory of Fiser?s friend, the pianist Antonín Jemelík, who died tragically. As a tribute to their friendship the composer incorporated into the introduction a quotation from their favourite work, Piano Sonata No. 10, Op. 70,by Alexander Scriabin. The tragedy of the death of the composer?s friend pervades the emotionally intense passage of unison octaves which follows the three-bar quotation. From a compositional point of view this work is a masterpiece of the mid-Sixties. Written as one movement, the piece is divided into numerous mutually contrasting segments which themselves are clearly grouped into two sections, exposition and development. The individual themes are introduced in the first section and thematically expanded in the second section. The motif treatment lies almost exclusively in the fragmenting or curtailing of the theme, or in the use of a combination of several themes, for the most part brief and eloquent. This compositional method, together with a clear-cut manner of execution, mainly semitonal melody and sharply contrastive dynamics, lends force and transparency to the piece. Piano Sonata No. 4 was completed in 1964 together with Symphonic Fresco, Concerto da camera for piano and orchestraand Fifteen Prints after Dürer?s Apocalypseand has earned its rightful place alongside them as masterpieces of Fiser?s ?uvre. The work was first performed by Pavel Stepán in Prague?s Rudolfinum in 1965. The new setting for this piece is based on the single edition to date (Panton, 1969) only with regard to a few inconsistencies in the score was it necessary to consult the composer?s manuscript (kept at the National Museum ? Czech Museum of Music, acquisition number 297/2006). H 7988, ISMN 979-2601-0447-1

[Sonates Wunderkind volume II K. 10-15] / Classique / Partition / Agrafé /
