Bartók taught piano at the Music Academy in Budapest from 1907 to 1934. In his first years as a professor the Budapest music publishers Rozsnyai and Rózsavölgyi commissioned him to prepare so-called instructive editions (including suggestions, commentaries and fingerings for the performer) of several classics of the piano repertoire, altogether more than two thousand pages of music. Following Bach and Beethoven, Mozart was the third classical titan of whom Bartók ventured to undertake a performing edition necessary for music education and the sheet music trade in Hungary. Károly Rozsnyai entrusted the work to him. Bartók worked on revisions of the sonatas between 1910 and 1912, and in 1912 or 1913 the pieces were published in a single-volume version. The two-volume form was published later, perhaps during the years of inflation following the First World War, on poorer quality paper and with gray cover. Bartók's editing reflects contemporary ideas about performance, but is for the most part more detailed and elaborate than in other similar instructive editions at the turn of the century. For the present edition we have corrected known printing errors by retouching the score, and we have deleted abbreviation letters referring to analysis of the form of the sonatas, which Bartók agreed to only at the explicit request of the publisher. We have added an English translation to the footnotes in Hungarian and German. The reader's attention is drawn to significant problems of authenticity and text in new editorial footnotes. To the new edition we have added an afterword by László Somfai which details the circumstances of the first publication, Bartók's sources and his working methods. Bartók's Mozart concept is outlined in detail, and the author reveals the problems surrounding the composer's edition and the significant distortions in the musical text, and puts into a historical context the performance indications used by Bartók. / Partitions classique / Piano - instruments à clavier / Piano / EMB (Editio Musica Budapest)

Wunderkind-Sonatas Volume II K. 10-15 Editor: Wolf-Dieter Seiffert Fingering: A...(+)
Wunderkind-Sonatas Volume II K. 10-15 Editor: Wolf-Dieter Seiffert Fingering: Ariane Haering In 1764 the eight-year-old Mozart wrote the Sonatas K. 10-15 in London. Leopold Mozart was only able to understand his son's musical genius in terms of it being a God-given wonder: That my boy [...] knows all of this with his 8 years that could be expected of a man of forty years. In short: whoever has not seen or heard it, cannot believe it. According to the title page the six sonatas can either be played as piano trios, violin sonatas or simply piano solo. As we have already published them in the form of piano trios and violin sonatas (HN 1078), we are now presenting them in an Urtext edition for piano solo. Wunderkind Sonatas Volume III for Piano and Violin K. 26-31 Editor: Wolf-Dieter Seiffert Fingering and bowing for Violin: Benjamin Schmid Fingering Piano: Ariane Haering In autumn 1765 Mozart's family was in Holland, not least at the request of Princess Caroline von Nassau-Weilburg. The fame of the prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus had already reached her so that she had an extraordinary desire to see this child (according to Leopold Mozart). The Sonatas for Piano K. 26-31 that can also have a violin accompaniment were composed in The Hague. They were published in 1766 and were naturally dedicated to the princess. An early copy which has nothing to do with Mozart was consulted by the New Mozart Edition as a primary source alongside the first edition. Our Urtext edition revises the musical text, deleting the misleading additions from this source. In short: whoever has not seen or heard it, cannot believe it. In 1764 Wolfgang composed six sonatas in London - possibly after the model of Johann Christian Bach's Opus 2 - that can either be played as piano trios, as violin sonatas or simply on the piano. Wunderkind Sonatas Volume I for Piano and Violin K. 6-9 Editor: Wolf-Dieter Seiffert Fingering and bowing for Violin: Benjamin Schmid Fingering Piano: Ariane Haering At the time, Mozart's genius - recognised at an early age - could only be explained as being God-given. Wolfgang Amadeus and his sister Maria Anna, older by five years, were admired as being Wunderkinder (prodigies) on their travels through Western Europe between 1763 and 1766. The piano sonatas with a violin accompaniment K. 6-9 were composed in Paris. It is wonderfully fresh and varied music. The piano is joined by a violin that adds colour, but not as an equal partner unlike in the later, great violin sonatas (see HN 77-80). This music is not only ideally suitable for piano and violin teaching purposes but will also allow musicians who already know everything to discover some treasures.

Vol. 1 Piano seul Schott
Le nouveau recueil de sonatines Vol. 1. Keep the old, but be generous with new. ...(+)
Le nouveau recueil de sonatines Vol. 1. Keep the old, but be generous with new. Fundamentally the editor of the New Sonatina Book has followed this principle. Therefore in the book are found sonatas for children which are almost 'classical', as well as other works which have long been used successfully in teaching the piano but which are not found in previous collections such as, for example, the Vienna Sonatinas of Mozart which acquired fame so quickly in the new Schott edition, the charming Spring Sonatina by Handrock, some melodious compositions of Theodor Kirchner, and as a contemporary work Gretchaninoff's Sonatina which has proved itself as a splendid display pieces for pupils' concerts.
The collection is as far as possible arranged in order of difficulty, but as frequently different movements of a work demand different levels of technique, a completely logical sequence was not possible, particularly as the individual talent of the pupil plays an important part. In order to acquaint pupils with polyphonic music some easy pieces by Handel, Telemann, Krebs and Max Reger (Canons) have been included. / Répertoire d'Examen / Recueil / Piano
