Bach, however, succeeded in transferring the diverse idiosyncrasies of Violin technique to the keyboard with such ingenuity that most of today’s pianists also include these concerti in their standard repertoire. The first concerto in d minor is perhaps the most popular – not least because of its jaunty outer movements and the eminently forceful solo part. Following in the tradition of Bach, Chopin, and other composers, Melody Bober has written the In All Keys series, which includes original piano solos in all major and minor keys. Each book in the series contains 16 pieces and follows the circle of fifths, with pieces in major keys followed by pieces in relative minor keys. Book 1 features one piece in C major, one piece in A minor, and the seven major 'sharp' keys (G, D, A, E, B, F-sharp, and C-sharp major) and their relative minors (E, B, F-sharp, C-sharp, G-sharp, D-sharp, and A-sharp minor). Par PROKOFIEV SERGEI. Interestingly there are two different versions of Prokofiev’s second piano concerto, the first written between 1912 and 1913, the second written in 1923. However, during the Russian Civil War, the original manuscript of the Concerto was destroyed in a fire in Prokofiev’s apartment in St. Petersburg. In 1923 he recreated the score from memory, effectively composing the second edition of the work, which was very different. Prokofiev wrote to a friend: I have so completely rewritten the second concerto that it might be considered the fourth (his third piano concerto having been written in the meantime). At the time of composition, the concerto's wild temperamentleft some exalted, whereas others were horrified by the jarring and at the time futuristic sound. Today, however, it is generally recognised as a masterpiece and is one of the most virtuosic works in the piano concerto repertoire. Op 45 No. 2. Par DVORAK ANTONIN. Dvorak composed the 'Slavonic Rhapsodies' op. 45 in 1878, launching his so-called 'Slavonic period'. When they were issued by the publisher Simrock the following year, these three self-contained orchestral pieces in D major, G minor and A-flat major were gathered together into a single opus. The 'Slavonic Rhapsodies' are now available in separate scholarly-critical editions and editor Robert Simon has taken the original print as the principal source, which was authorised by the composer. One must look long and hard to find a piano pupil who hasn't studied Beethoven's two 'sonate facile? op. 49.
