'A Man's Destiny'. Par DE HAAN JAN. ‘Yn Ieren en Sinen’ (‘with much conviction’) was commissioned by CMV Harmonie Sneek (Friesland, The Netherlands) to mark their 95th anniversary. As requested by the commissioning party, the composer based this work on the life of a former member of the band, who played flugelhorn until the age of 86. Music was very important in the eventful life of the man in question. A passionate musician, he had a great love for chorale melodies, and his favourite piece, the famous Canon by the English composer Thomas Tallis (1505-1585) was the source of inspiration for this composition. / Niveau : 3 / Pièce de concert / Date parution : 1905-07-10/ Répertoire / Fanfare Band

Par MARTIN BARNABY. Philip Moore draws on a lifetime's experience of music for Anglican worship to present Bishop Ken's classic evening hymn in darker, more subjective hues than those of Tallis's Canon, to which it is usually sung congregationally. In particular, a penitential note of strained serenity is struck in this nocturnal plea for repose of body and soul. The voices move quietly in comfortable thirds and sixths to the accompaniment of a questioning five-note figure, a phrase which is rarely absent from the Organ part and which subtly questions their prayer for peace in its edgy harmonic and metric ambiguity./ Feuillet / SATB et Orgue

'A Man's Destiny'. Par DE HAAN JAN. ‘Yn Ieren en Sinen’ (‘with much conviction’) was commissioned by CMV Harmonie Sneek (Friesland, The Netherlands) to mark their 95th anniversary. As requested by the commissioning party, the composer based this work on the life of a former member of the band, who played flugelhorn until the age of 86. Music was very important in the eventful life of the man in question.
