Each volume of this unique jazz improvisation method includes: State of the art recordings (multi-track digital), recorded in the excellent Bauer Studios, where many of the productions for the record label ECM have been done, and in the Skyline Studios in New York City. Each set contains six complete performances, including opening and closing theme statements, improvised solos and six play-along tracks which feature the rhythm section without soloist. Many performances use the original arrangements from classic jazz recordings (So What, Equinox, A Night In Tunisia, 'Round Midnight, Con Alma, Webb City, Joshua etc.). Because the complete performances were approached as in a professional recording session the play-along versions sound fresh and spontaneous, with much interaction between the rhythm section instruments and the soloists. Piano and bass are clearly separated. Book with helpful commentary and analysis of each recorded performance in English, français and deutsch. Par NOURSE NANCY. The four preludes included in this collection are each based upon a tune associated with a particular time of the church calendar. The Lenten prelude, Meditation upon 'Forty Days and Forty Nights', likewise employs a theme with interpolations approach. The hymn tune, Heinlein, is most closely associated with the English text, 'Forty days and forty nights, Thou wast fasting in the wild'. However in the midst of this piece occur short musical representations of the three temptations. In the case of the Variations on an Old French Carol, its association is with both Easter in its text of 'Love is Come Again' and in its Christmas text of 'Noel Nouvelet' (or as sung in English, 'Sing We Now of Christmas'). The advent prelude, Meditation upon a Sarum Plainsong, uses the 7th century plainsong chant Conditor Alme Siderum as its basis, with frequent trope-like interpolations occurring between the phrases. Even more simply conceived, the rendering of the Victorian Christmas hymn, Once in Royal David's City. The first verse is played sweetly and simply, while harmonic material is added for verses two and three./ Répertoire / Flûte Traversière

Work commissioned by the pianists Iván Martín and Alba Ventura, on the occasion of the commemoration of the Centenary of Enric Granados (2016), and lasts approximately 10 minutes. It comprises two pieces of very contrasting character. The first, Rêverie, is a nocturne with broad resonances that unfolds in a recollected and expectant atmosphere, presided over by a lyrical expression and contemplative sign, scarcely disturbed by more passionate outbursts. Its cantabile course and precious writing conceal veiled references to the poetic and pianistic universe of Granados, including a hidden allusion to the musical acrostic of his name (made up of the notes Do-Mi [EnriC] and Sol-La-Re-Mib [GrAnaDoS]), which confers a special luminosity to its harmonic material. The Capriccio that follows lives up to its name with a more virtuosic and vigorous writing, with playful and colourful rhythmic accents, which drifts in its central part towards the dreamlike and ecstatic register that presided over some sections of the Rêverie, to conclude with a brilliant stretta. The premieres of the two pieces that make up the present work took place on 20 January 2016 at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona (Capriccio) and on 14 April 2016 at the Auditori de Barcelona (Rêverie), starring Iván Martín and Alba Ventura, respectively. Both pieces are contemporaries of the 'Romanza sin palabras', for chamber ensemble, commissioned by The City University of New York on the occasion of the celebration of the Granados Year in New York, and premiered on 10 March 2016 at the Elebash Recital Hall of the CUNY by the Perspectives Ensemble (art. dir. While a first glance at these compositions shows their clear and simple structure with a distinct musical message, a closer look reveals rhythmic curiosities, interesting harmonic shifts, and a diverse expressive range. Albumblatt für Arriaga, commissioned by the Trio Arriaga and lasting some 7:30 minutes, is the composer's fourth contribution to the classical violin, cello and piano ensemble, for which he has a special esteem. The work was written in homage to the composer Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga, and at the same time as a token of gratitude and admiration for the Trio Arriaga, to whose members the work is dedicated; a double motivation that is reflected in the title of the work. Its course is presided over by a markedly lyrical character that coexists with passages full of energy, rhythmic vivacity and drama. The introduction and epilogue of the work are based on a musical motif derived from the name of the Basque composer (Ju-A-n C-r-I-S-ostomo A-rr-I-A-G-A), made up of the notes A, C, E, Eb, A, E, E, A, G, A, in the manner of a musical acrostic, and from whose nature the harmonic and thematic material of the whole work is largely derived.
