Matthias Wendt. The
solo cantataJauchzet Gott
in allen Landen, written
around 1730 for the 15th
Sunday after Trinity, is
one of Bach's best-known
cantatas. The scoring for
solo soprano, trumpet,
strings and continuo is
unique amongst Bach's
cantatas and has
parallels with Italian
composers of the
period. The
enduring popularity of
the work is due to the
clear and succinct formal
structure and not least
to the virtuoso trumpet
part and soprano arias,
in which the soloists can
demonstrate their total
mastery. The cantata is
published in a vocal
score based on theNew
Bach Editionwith an
idiomatic straightforward
piano reduction by Martin
Focke. -

Sebastian Bach's chorale
cantataNow my soul exalts
the Lord(BWV 10) was
composed in 1724 for the
Feast of Visitation (2
July). Its themes are
based on the Marian hymn
of praise (Magnificat)
from the Gospel according
to Luke.
Bach gave
the free combination of
poetic paraphrase and
Biblical text a varied
musical setting ranging
from the mighty opening
chorus via two large
arias to an intimate duet
and richly pictorial
recitatives. Despite the
small instrumental forces
ofad libitumtrumpet, two
oboes, strings and basso
continuo, Bach creates a
majestic musical language
appropriate to the
Magnificat. This Urtext
performing edition is
based on theNew Bach

(HL44005496) Manhattan
was commissioned by the
United States Army Band
for their trumpet soloist
Woodrow English, and
first performed by them
in Carnegie Hall, New
York, in November 2003.
Wanting to write a piece
that demonstrated both
the lyrical and technical
abilities of this
outstanding player, the
composer decided on a
two-movement work
showcasing these
qualities, and with the
intention that the
movements could be played
individually when a
shorter solo is required.
The theme is a weekend in
New York, and the opening
bluesy movement (Saturday
Serenade) describes the
city on a Saturday night,
perhaps in a smoke-filled
jazz bar. While writing
Sunday Scherzo, the
composer pictured an
early morning jog in
Central Park. This
vivaciously rhythmic
movement ends with an
even quicker coda which
brings the work to a
brilliant close. $110.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks

Language: German,
English. Text: William
Bartholomew. Mendel
ssohn's setting of Psalm
98 was written in a few
weeks to satisfy a
commission in his new
position as general music
director of Prussia and
was premiered by the
Berlin Cathedral Choir on
1 January 1844. As he
neither released the work
for publication nor
produced a vocal score,
his psalm setting did not
appear in print until
after his
death.
For this
edition the authoritative
Mendelssohn specialist
John Michael Cooper drew
primarily on the
autograph score with its
many subsequent
corrections and
amendments. In this way
it differs from many
other editions, which
tend to treat the
autograph as a
subordinate source.
Rounding off the edition
are an informative
Foreword and a detailed
Critical Commentary. The
piano reduction is based
on the first printed
edition, published by F.
Kistner and Evers & Co.
in 1851.

many large American and

Towers, the only ones
still in existence and in
use today are found in
Austin, Texas. These
man-made wonders may not
be as stunning as
naturally-formed stone
edifices, but they are
nevertheless
eye-catching. One of
these structures in a
large park is adorned
with strands of lights
every December to
resemble a gigantic
Christmas tree which can
be seen for miles. In
this composition, measure
81 through measure 97
depicts four of the
remaining thirteen towers
in four different
settings in Austin. This
piece is also intended to
capture the wonder of
these singular relics of
history, with a fantasy
atmosphere of their
own. $13.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 1 to 2 weeks
