Latin. The Missa
Beatissimae Virginis
Maria was composed ca.
1758-1760, between the
end of his tenure as a
singer in the choir of
St. Stephen's in Vienna
and the beginning of his
first position as
violinist and music
director for the Bishop
of Grosswardein. The
scoring of SATB (for soli
as well as choir) and
church trio was augmented
by two trumpets (clarini)
and timpani, as well as
two trombones. The latter
instruments double the
alto and tenor voices in
tutti passages but in the
Et incarnatus est they
are also employed in an
obbligato role. On the
one hand, as an early
work this Mass is in the
style of the festive
baroque tradition, as
practiced in south-German
regions until the middle
of the eighteenth
century; on the other
hand it already shows the
subjective inspiration
which distinguished it
from many of the mass
settings by Haydn's
contemporaries. Score and
part available separately

musical work been better
characterized by its
subtitle than Nicolas
Bacri's Lyric Interlude:
'A Study in Pastoral
Style'. When, in 2008,
the composer received the
commission for a piece
with English horn from
Cecilia Benner, patron of
the Chamber Music Society
of Detroit, he
immediately thought of
the duo between this
instrument and the oboe
that Berlioz, in the
Symphonie fantastique,
placed at the beginning
of the 'Scène aux
champs', making suddenly
appear a nocturnal
country landscape where
two shepherds carry on a
dialogue on their pipes.
First performed in March
2009 at one of the Scarab
Club Concerts in Detroit,
the Lyric Interlude for
English horn, violin and
cello (Op.110a)
nonetheless proclaims
another tradition: that
of British pastoralism,
illustrated by the music
of Ralph Vaughan Williams
(1872-1958), the 50th
anniversary of his death
having just been
celebrated. This score
pays him homage of rare
sensitivity: set off by
refined counterpoint, the
undulating lament of the
beginning, rhythmically
supple, evokes the waving
wheat, as does Vaughan
Williams in the opening
undulation of his
Symphony No.3. The
lyrical effusion, briefly
interrupted by a scherzo
in 6/8, again pours out,
making the work evolve
towards a slow, ecstatic
atmosphere, close to the
last of the English
composer's Three Preludes
on Welsh Hymn Tunes. Far
from bucolic, postcard
clichés and
servile imitation, this
Lyric Interlude opens the
doors to a realm where
pure beauty reigns. The
composer also wrote
another version of this
work for English horn (or
flute, clarinet, or
viola) and piano, Op.110b
(AL 30 750)&rdquo. $20.55 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 24 hours - In Stock

Missa Pannonica , written

Malina praised the nearly
half-hour, large-scale
and virtuosic work as
follows: The mass is an
outstanding achievement
within Szokolay's sacred
music oeuvre. It is a
composition with
extremely rich musical
contents, and it is
impressively spontaneous
and powerful, combining a
broad range of styles,
traditions, and

Vespers in Gregorian
Chant, and according to
the renewed liturgy of
Vatican II–
it’s now possible.
The Antiphonale Romanum
II is an
eight-hundred-page book
printed on bible paper
having the usual format
of books of Gregorian
Chant published by
Solesmes. It contains all
the elements necessary
for singing Sunday
Vespers and the Vespers
of all the feasts of the
year. That means the
hymns, the antiphons, the
psalms and canticles, the
readings, the brief
responses, the
intercessory prayers and
the prayers that conclude
the office. At the end of
the book is a chapter
that explains in detail
the rules of chant
pertaining to each of
these musical forms. The
book is laid out
according to the Liturgy
of the Hours and draws
from the patrimony of
Gregorian Chant found in
the mediaeval manuscripts

melodies offered have
been edited in conformity
with the critical methods

the same time so
presented that amateur
choirs can easily use
them. . $55.50 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 1 to 2 weeks
