Par DEBUSSY CLAUDE. Debussy wrote these two short dances to a commission from the instrument-making firm of Pleyel, which was keen to use famous names in the marketing of its newly-developed chromatic harp. The dances are also playable without problem on the pedal harp, which was to replace the chromatic harp on the concert platform. The archaic style of the pieces, including modal harmonies, used to express a ?sacred? rite and a ?profane? dance of joy, points to the enthusiasm for antiquity of Debussy himself and of the artistic world around 1900. Ours is the first critical edition of the pieces, and is based on careful checking of the autograph and first edition. Practical support has been provided by the well-known harpist Margit-Anna Süss-Schellenberger, who has arranged the solo part of this Urtext edition for modern harp. / Date parution : 2022-10-12/ Répertoire / Harpe et Piano

Arr. James Marshall. Par . This set of 10 intermediate-level arrangements was derived from songs from the Colonial through Civil War periods. In these pieces, the hauntingly lyrical tone of the clarinet combined with piano accompaniment creates a unique musical setting. The songs were drawn from the works of Stephen Foster, Sacred Harp shape-note themes, 19th-century folk songs as well as colonial fife and drum music. The arrangements explore the low melodious register of the clarinet through the lyrical mid tones and into the singing moderate-upper register. / Date parution : 2022-04-09/ Recueil / Clarinette et Piano

Trilogie Sacrée. Par BERLIOZ HECTOR. The history of the composition of the oratorio is odd: the kernel of this three-part work were the movements from the middle section, the “Flight to Egypt, ” which Berlioz composed on a whim in 1850 and which he passed off as the work of a baroque composer whose existence he himself had invented. In 1854 the triptych, which was completed with the parts entitled “The dream of Herodes” and “The arrival at Sais, ” had its celebrated first performance. Starting from the Gospel of St. Matthew, with the visit of the astrologer to Herodes and the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt, Berlioz chose to relate the story of the events of Christmas from another angle, other than as it is almostalways depicted, after the Gospel of Luke. This skillful dramatisation, with impressive instrumental sections, such as the independent trio for two flutes and harp as well as the effective choruses with local color, make this “sacred trilogy” a genuine alternative for performance at Christmas time. The score, published in 1855, contained a second singing text in German which had been translated from the French by Peter Cornelius. The critical edition by Carus presents a new translation by Klaus Kreuser which, as opposed to the text by Cornelius, adheres more closely to the French original and avoids becoming an embellished idyll. / Oratorio / Répertoire / Solistes STBarB, Choeur SATB, 2 Flûtes Traversière
