B-Flat Clarinet,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1208741 Composed by Adam Lenhart. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 33 pages. Adam Lenhart #806841. Published by Adam Lenhart (A0.1208741). Introduction to The Rubáiyát of Omar KhayyámThe Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam is a Persian poetry collection first put together in 1460 in Shiraz.  It consists of quatrains, four-line poems, with a set of unconventional themes.  The poetry is irreligious and questions the afterlife and God's providence.  It shows keen awareness of the shortness of life and the finality of death. It advises therefore that every fleeting moment of every day should be savored, with wine, lovers and song. The combination of a serious philosophy of life and a carefree attitude has made the poetry popular for centuries.  In 1859, Edward FitzGerald brought out a loose English translation that took the world by storm.  It became the most beloved and widely known poem in the English language for decades until its popularity finally faded in the late twentieth century. Although they were attributed to the great mathematician and astronomer, Omar Khayyam (d. 1131), the poems were by many anonymous hands, and he was just a frame author, akin to Scheherezade in the Arabian Nights.- Dr. Juan Cole, Richard P. Mitchell Collegiate Professor of History at the University of MichiganAbout the CompositionTwo Scenes from The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám explores and embodies two of the main themes that carry throughout the quatrains of the poem collection. In FitzGerald's translation, the quatrains follow a day to night cycle. The two movements reflect this by starting off with an abrupt wake up section and ending the piece with a nocturne.  The first movement, Wine, celebrates the camaraderie, joy and chaos that comes through the physical joy of being with friends. The clarinet, violin and piano interact in a conversational way, talking, laughing, and insulting one another in their own independent lines. The second movement is entitled Intimacy and explores the emotional joy of connecting with one another. The movement is set in a waltz style dance and draws influence from Chopin, Liszt and other romantic era composers. This is juxtaposed by youthful and energetic phrases so that the piece embodies all forms of love: young love, years of marriage and even friendship. Each movement has a sense of urgency and density which is present in the rubá'iyát as well, expressing to the reader that our time on Earth is so short and to make the most of each day.---------------------------Adam Lenhart (b. 2002) is a University of Michigan student of music theory, composition, voice and organ from Ottawa Lake, Michigan. As a theorist, his areas of study vary widely, including 18th century counterpoint, the early American Sacred Harp tradition, and impressionism. As a composer, his music draws inspiration from nature, mathematics and poetry. In 2020 he was awarded the Michigan Music Education Association’s Young Composers of Michigan award, as well as first prize in the University of Toledo Young Composers competition. Lenhart has also participated in numerous ensembles across Michigan, including the MYAF All-State Choir, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club and the SMTD University Choir. He thoroughly enjoys collaboration with other composers, performers, poets and visual artists. Some of his recent projects include collaborations with individuals from the University of Michigan Chamber Music, History, and Poetry departments.

B-Flat Clarinet,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549575 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 18 pages. Jmsgu3 #3509361. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549575). Duration: ca. 2:17 Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 5 pages. A proven audience pleaser - perfect for a recital encore! Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions. Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46) Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. The play includes, in particular, the famous selection entitled, In the Hall of the Mountain King. In this composition, Grieg indeed depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, thereupon striking his skull on a boulder. He wakens forthwith in a highland bounded by angry gnomes. Consequently, the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King represents the mad gnomes taunting Peer. Therefore, each time the theme repeats it gets louder and faster. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain. Holberg Suite and Misc. Summary It must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.

Clarinet Choir,Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,Contra Alto Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.764956 Composed by Lori Archer Sutherland. Contemporary,Folk,Standards. 50 pages. Lori Archer Sutherland #4597193. Published by Lori Archer Sutherland (A0.764956). For clarinet choir (Eb, 4 Bb, Alto, Bass, Eb Contra, Bb Contra. Alternate Bb parts included for Eb and Alto. Basset horn part included (doubles Alto)).You may print multiple parts as needed for your ensemble. The Monk’s Turned Topsy-Turvy is an original fantasy for clarinet choir, based on the old French-Canadian children’s song, Ah! Si mon moine voulait danser! (Danse, mon moine, danse). The title is a play on words: moine means both monk and spinning top in French. The lyrics speak of persuading mon moine to dance by offering various articles of clothing, such as a hood or cap. After a brief, yet bold, introduction, the piece jumps into a straightforward rendition of the tune. From there, the melody is repeated, bringing in other voices and added flourishes. While the tune starts to repeat a third time, it doesn’t get to finish its full statement. It’s interrupted by a run up through the ensemble into a rollicking 7/8 section. With a rhythmic accompaniment underneath, the jaunty melody begins in the third clarinets. The upper instruments take over briefly in 6/8, then the tune returns to 7/8. After a quick breather, the accompaniment introduces an upward sweep motif. This alternates with the accompaniment pattern heard at the beginning of the 7/8 section. The lower voices then take control, driving downward into a different tonality and mood. An undulating accompaniment sets a dreamlike feel, with different voices quoting fragments of the theme. The accompaniment transfers between voices throughout the section, eventually changing back into a 3/4, then a 2/4 feel, resulting in a transition back to the original feel of the piece. The low voices get the melody, with rhythmic accompaniment and racing runs throughout the other sections. The melody goes a bit topsy-turvy before the group comes together in the descending quarter note motif from the beginning of the piece, bringing us to the coda. There’s one final quote of the opening of the main theme from the low voices, leading to a whirlwind in the first and Eb with accented notes and suspensions underneath. The Eb pipes up with one last comment and the group closes out the piece. Also available for concert band (S0.708971)

Woodwind Ensemble Clarinet - Digital Download SKU: A0.813826 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Contemporary,Folk,Romantic Period,Standards. 18 pages. Regis Bookshar #6533907. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813826). Largo (from Symphony No. 9 in E minor) (From the New World) (Db) (Clarinet Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of the Largo, based on the second movement of Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services, especially Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (18 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (subtitled From the New World and popularly know as the New World Symphony), was composed by Antonin Dvorak in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 16, 1893 and has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. The second movement of the symphony, upon which this arrangement is based, is marked Largo, and begins with a harmonic progression of chords which is then followed by a solo instrument playing the famous main theme.Dvorak was interested in Native American music and the African-American spirituals he heard in North America. While director of the National Conservatory he encountered an African-American student, Harry T. Burleigh, who sang traditional spirituals to him. Burleigh, later a composer himself, said that Dvorak had absorbed their spirit before writing his own melodies. Dvorak stated:    I am convinced that the future music of this country must be founded on what are called Negro melodies. These can be the foundation of a serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States. These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil. They are folk songs of America and your composers must turn to them.He further explained how Native American music influenced his symphony:  I have not actually used any of these (Native American) melodies. I have simply written original themes embodying the peculiarities of the Indian music, and, using these themes as subjects, have developed them with all the resources of modern rhythms, counterpoint, and orchestral colour. In 1893, a newspaper interview quoted Dvorak as saying, I found that the music of the negroes and of the Indians was practically identical, and that the music of the two races bore a remarkable similarity to the music of Scotland. Most historians agree that Dvorak is referring to the pentatonic scale, which is typical of each of these musical traditions.Dvorak was influenced not only by music he heard, but also by what he had seen, in America. He wrote that he would not have composed his American pieces as he had if he had not seen America. It has been said that Dvorak was inspired by the wide open spaces of America, such as the prairies he may have seen on his trip to Iowa in the summer of 1893. Notices about several performances of the symphony include the phrase wide open spaces about what inspired the symphony and/or about the feelings it conveys to listeners. The theme from the Largo was adapted into the spiritual Goin' Home (often mistakenly considered a folk song or traditional spiritual) by Dvorak's pupil, William Arms Fisher, who wrote the lyrics in 1922. Regis Bookshar thought it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to this version for a Clarinet Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection which are readily available for a wide variety of instrumenta.

B-Flat Clarinet,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548715 Composed by Martin Luther. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Easter,Instructional,Standards. Score and part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3411741. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548715). Out of the Depths I Cry to You by Martin Luther arranged for clarinet & piano. The first verses feature modified counterpoint and harmony proceeding at quarter = 82. The final verse is reharmonized for maximum dramatic effect at a more contemplative tempo such as quarter = 64. Features the entire range of the instrument. Very powerful selection for Lent or Easter. Duration (3 verses) 3:05, 36 ms. Score: 3 pg. Solo part: 1 pg. The piano reads from the score. Out of the Depths Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (From deep affliction I cry out to you), is, of course, a hymn composed by Martin Luther. Moreover, Luther also wrote the lyrics, essentially a paraphrase of Psalm 130. First published in 1524, it is also one of eight songs in the original Lutheran hymnal. It appears likewise in many hymnals and in different translations. The lyrics furthermore stimulated compositions from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Consequently, composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach built an entire chorale cantata on it. Other composers similarly contributed pieces, such as Felix Mendelssohn and Max Reger. Luther Background Martin Luther, (1483 –1546) was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, and moreover, an influential character in the Protestant Reformation. Luther had a momentous impact on church and society due to his contributions to the musical arts. He wanted to disseminate the gospel among mankind and with this intention thought that the best way to do that was through music. Influence It is important to realize that other musicians, and their descendants, were encouraged by Luther’s songs and wrote their own hymns. Luther, to be sure, had a thorough musical education. For example, he knew secular and sacred songs from an early age. He, in particular, played the lute well and sang in the monastery when he was a monk. That is to say, music was an essential part of his life. He in fact first began writing songs in 1523, sometimes writing the melody as well as the lyrics. Luther was certainly able to evaluate the composers of his time. He thought especially highly of Josquin des and Ludwig Senfl. He was also acquainted, with this in mind, with other composers and their works. Legacy The Lutheran musical ethos soon covered all of Germany and later significantly fashioned Protestant musical culture. Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach are the most compelling evidence of this Protestant musical culture. Additionally, as a point often overlooked, the pedal organ, first refined in northern Germany, became universally prevalent. As a matter of fact, Dieterich Buxtehude established a regular evening organ concert series in Lübeck. Another key point is that this concert series, in turn, spread North German Musical ideas worldwide. Luther was especially convinced that music is a beautiful and exclusive offering of the divine.

B-Flat Clarinet,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1090919 Composed by David L Shire. Arranged by Uwe Roessler Rössler Rassler. 20th Century,Film/TV,Jazz,Standards. Score and part. 6 pages. Uwe Roessler #695062. Published by Uwe Roessler (A0.1090919). The opening title of the soundtrack from the movie â€Farewell, My Lovely†(1975), with the great Robert Mitchum. Aka “Marlowe´s Themeâ€. As Leif “Smoke Rings†Anderson said about this piece: “It tells a sadly story about a lonely man walking away in the night, going nowhere.†The relaxed tempo makes it an ideal piece for after-hours. And the jazzy chords are just marvellous! Piano voice is written out - with additional chord symbols for your own voicings. As for the title, the name of the piece: I am not entirely sure, whether “Marlowe´s Theme†is correct. The music of the opening scene has no name, as far as I´ve been able to determine, and on Davis Shire´s own piano solo version there´s a combination of this piece with “Marlowe´s Themeâ€. But, there you go … . It´s fantastic music, anyway. Two iterations: Piano Intro with the original piano pattern. Clarinet has the theme for one complete iteration. Piano Solo over 16 bars. Clarinet takes over second half of the theme. Duration: approx 03.00 min. I´ve listed quite a lot of songs, so far: Movie Themes and classic Pop songs for this kind of instrumentation, and others. Browse ;-) Have fun with my arrangements!

One of the last of Handel’s many oratorios, Solomon is rarely performed in its entirety, but Handel’s bright and lively The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba interlude is a widely appreciated processional set piece. It often was (and it continues to be) played during wedding ceremonies. A noted public performance of the piece occurred during the opening ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Its libretto is based on the biblical stories of wise king Solomon and is attributed to Newburgh Hamilton. It looks deceptively simple but the learning and challenge comes from two smaller sub-ensembles playing together in their own collective units legato con moto while playing together as a whole music ensemble Everyone will enjoy and bathe in the beautiful harmonies that will resonate when the entire music ensemble begins to listen to each while playing together as a group. Your musicians will hone their skills in playing together with just the right balance that this song requires. Your musicians will also hone their skills for subdividing and maintaining an inner beat that is in sync with your conducting because there is no percussion and the notes are freely flowing on and off the down beat yet not sounding heavily syncopated when performed. When will you know when you have achieved the right balance and flow of the music? You will know when, because you will hear it and feel it when it comes into place. But I can help you with all of this with what I have to offer you today. I share with you now Tears from My Eyes: Mourning in the Rain (for Clarinet Choir).Tears from My Eyes music collection is very suitable and moving for funerals, memorials, church, or contemplative settings. Helpful hints: In addition to getting the counts down, even more important is to practice feeling the music collectively together because rigid counting takes away from the flowing emotive nature of the piece. There are actually 3 smaller ensembles within this piece that all three subgroups must musically move together in harmony, rhythm, and balance. When that is achieved, the music and harmonic overtones will be exquisite. The instrumentation is also so important because of the timbre that each instrument contributes to the ensemble. Musicality is key to this piece. This song is the title song on Tito Abeleda's album Mourning in the Rain released on 9/11/2019.Contact info: Tito AbeledaVisionary Quest Recordshttps://www.visionaryquestrecordsEmail: tito@visionaryquestrecords.comFollow Tito on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/titoabeledaTwitter: https://twitter.com/titoabeledaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/tabeledaYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/titoabeledaSpotify: http://bit.ly/TitoAbeleda-on-SpotifyiTunes/Apple Music: http://bit.ly/TitoAbeleda_iTunesPerforming Rights Organization is BMI.com.Customer Service: 800-925-8451

A jaunty theme greets the listener at the outset of the piece, followed by a lyrical and expressive ballade. A brief transition culminates in a musical statement that recalls the music of a British military brass band, which is then accompanied by the original thematic material bringing the piece to a definitive conclusion. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Bass Clarinet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.764636 Composed by James Pybus. Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 15 pages. James Pybus #34151. Published by James Pybus (A0.764636). The Royal Court of Aquitaine is an original composition for SATB Saxophone Quartet or Clarinet Quartet and is dedicated to the Three Rivers Saxophone Quartet who are based in Pittsburgh, in appreciation for having me as one of their guests at their 20th Annual Saxophone and Woodwind Workshop held at California University of Pennsylvania, June 27- July 2, 2010. I began working on the piece just prior to attending the workshop and completed it a few days after returning home to Mississauga, Ontario. The title was suggested by my lovely bride after she first heard the piece. Raised in a family where medieval history was a frequent topic of discussion since her father was a Professor of Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto, my wife says she had a vision of Eleanor of Aquitaine arriving by ship in England with her entourage, while her husband King Henry II awaited her. Since I had no title in mind, and after having researched the medieval Queen, I decided my wife’s suggestion was particularly apt. The piece is in ternary form, with the first theme in C Dorian mode, perhaps depicting Eleanor’s strength and conviction as a monarch. This leads into the second section in Eb major, which is more lyrical and calming in nature, suggesting her influence over the Courtly Love Movement while residing in Poitiers. The first section then returns to bring the piece to a balanced conclusion. The performance time is 3:15. Contact me at james.pybus56@gmail.com.

This eight minute work is a great addition to the repertoire of a professional who is well equipped to perform with electronics, or has an aspiration to perform with electronics. The score comes with a diagram and instructions on how to operate a loopstation or loop pedal, making it ideal for that first experience performing with a looper. And Then I Found Myself will allow anyone to perform a compelling melody, with a slight feel of improvisation, all while accompanying oneself with an in-the-moment creation of a recording. Unlike some of my other works for clarinet + electronics where the media is fixed, the electronics in And Then I Found Myself are created right there during the performance - which offers the audience a unique perspective as the performer builds the piece right in front of them.

Instrumental Duet Cello,Clarinet,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.723176 Composed by Shmuel Cohen. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (ASCAP). Jewish,Patriotic,World. Score and parts. 4 pages. Joel Jacklich #6626055. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.723176). I was asked by two musicians friends, who had previously commissioned several Klezmer pieces from me, to write an arrangement of Hatikva (The Hope), the Israeli National Anthem for a visual visit to the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem to take place later this year. Naphtali Herz Imber (1856-1909) wrote the poem in 1878. Shmuel (Samuel) Cohen (1870-1940) first set Imber's poem to music in 1887, basing the melody for Hatikvah on La Mantovana, a 16th-century Italian song, composed by Giuseppe Cenci (Giuseppino del Biado) ca. 1600. In 1933, the 18th International Zionist Congress in Prague adopted Hatikva as the anthem of the Zionist movement. With there establishment of the state of Israel in 1948, it was adopted unofficially as then national anthem of Israel, becoming finalized officially by the Knesset in 2004. This arrangement for clarinet and cello shares the melody diplomatically between the two instruments. The clarinet occasionally switches octaves for a slight Klezmer feeling (as was requested by the commissioner) while still maintaining the piece in a serious mode.

Published by Auberg Instructional Innovations (A0.995681). Fun and goofy, The Noise Maker Concerto involves noise makers (party favors, kazoos, spin whistles... really any noise maker!) interrupting an otherwise serious piece. The clarinet part is very impressive sounding, but not actually all that difficult. Great for using kids in your performance: give the kids noise makers (you can get them at a dollar store) and have a leader (someone who can follow the sheet music) cue them as to when to play. To make it even more interesting, change noise makers between each movement (there are four movements). Fun composing fact: the piece was originally written for the Noise Makers with just a piano part accompanying. The clarinet solo was later written on top of the existing music!

Clarinet Duet Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.582192 Composed by John Field. Arranged by John Gibson. Classical,Instructional,Standards. 2 scores. 44 pages. JB Linear #6328001. Published by JB Linear (A0.582192). John Field was born in Ireland in 1782. He was a fine pianist and has been known as one of the early originators of the Nocturne. His 18 Nocturnes for piano is composed in such a way as the melody is carried mostly by the right hand while the left hand produces a harmony figure. This makes these pieces likely ones to arrange as instrumental duets. What I had in mind was a set of pieces for a student playing the lead 1st part and their teacher playing the accompaniment. You will find the student or 1st part is similar in style and playing level as the slow etudes of the 32 Rose Etudes. There are 5 nocturnes in this setting. There is a score, however, due to page turns, the separate parts are more useful. Arranger's note: an accidental in one octave does not effect the same note in another octave,,,so an A# in a lower octave will be an A natural in a different octave.
