It is sung by Calaf, il principe ignoto (the unknown prince), who falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot. However, any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles; if he fails, he will be beheaded. In the aria, Calaf expresses his triumphant assurance that he will win the princess.Although Nessun dorma has long been a staple of operatic recitals, Luciano Pavarotti popularized the piece beyond the opera world in the 1990s following his performance of it for the 1990 World Cup. Keith Terrett has done an outstanding job of injecting jazz and blues into these holiday favorites. The writing beginning in measure 13 of Ding Dong Merrily On High is outstanding. Check out the wonderful contrast in movement between the flute and bass. This arrangement of Xmas carols would be a wonderful addition to any future holiday program. Well done Keith! Have fun! In 1942 the song was recorded for the film Holiday Inn. Bing Crosby's version, published in 1947, has sold an estimated 50 million copies, making it the best-selling single worldwide.The song was adapted for the Soprano or Tenor Recorder and provided with fingering images. These images are briefly explained in the appendix. The classic musical notation and/or the lyrics help to develop the song, so that even those unfamiliar with music notes can learn to play the song with this arrangement.The sound of a piano was used in the setting, so the sound does not mix with the sound of your own instrument.
