The Three Romances Without Words, Opus 17 were most likely composed for solo Piano in 1863 while FaureÌ was still a student at the ÌEcole Niedermeyer, but not performed in public until much later. They have all of the recognizable features of the composer: simplicity, lyricism, charm and fluidity. Their inspiration may have come from the earlier works by Mendelssohn which Mr. Sauer has also lovingly given life to. These 3 short works can be performed by intermediate to advanced performers.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792219). The Five Pieces in Folk Style by Schumann were originally written for Cello and Piano. They have been expertly transcribed for Tenor Trombone by Ralph Sauer, retired Principal Trombonist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The 5 movements are in contrasting styles and work very well for Trombone. Schumann was considered the Poet of the Romantics. This music is expressive and full of robust and elegant phrases. For moderately advanced performers. The complete work is almost 17 minutes in length and can be a major work on your concert.

Gordon Cherry #5040983. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792623). Young Glazunov had the special opportunity to meet Franz Liszt in 1884 while on a tour of Europe arranged by his publisher. Liszt was very impressed with the young Glazunov and arranged to have his 1st Symphony performed in Weimar. Upon hearing of Liszt’s death in 1886, Glazunov wrote this Élégie in his memory with the subtitile Une Pensée à François Liszt. The music embodies emotions of nostalgia, sweet remembrance and grief. This 8-minute jewel, originally for Cello and Piano has been beautifully arranged for Trombone by Ralph Sauer. For advanced performers.
