Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726088 Composed by Traditional English Carol. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christmas,Holiday,Traditional. Score and parts. 17 pages. Con Spirito Music #4790249. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726088). Past Three O'Clock (or Past Three A Clock) is a Christmas carol loosely based on the traditional cry of the city night watchman, set to the English traditional tune, London Waits. The tune and refrain have been known since the Renaissance, and both were possibly used by London's waits (also waites or waytes). According to the Encyclopaedia Brittanica (1911):The earliest waits (those of the 14th and 15th centuries) were simply watchmen who sounded horns or even played a tune on a flute or flageolet to mark the hours. This appears to have been known as 'piping the watch....' The duties of the London waits, which included playing before the mayor during his annual progress through the streets and at city dinners, seem to have been typical of all 16th- and 17th-century city waits. The London waits had a special uniform of blue gowns with red sleeves and caps, and wore a silver collar or chain round the neck. In the 18th and early 19th century the ordinary street watchmen appear to have arrogated to themselves the right to serenade householders at Christmas time, calling round on Boxing Day to receive a gratuity for their tunefulness as well as their watchfulness. When in 1829 their place as guardians of the city's safety was taken by police, it was left for private individuals to keep up the custom. This arrangement of this sprightly tune features the Westminster Chimes (aka Westminster Quarters or Cambridge Quarters), the tune written for the clock tower at Cambridge in 1793, as introduction, in accompaniment, and at the conclusion of the piece.©Copyright 2019 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music. Christmas Duets for Intermediate Trumpet Players ...and Beyond

Trumpet Duet Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1118368 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Kenneth Baird. Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Religious,Traditional. Score. 28 pages. Kenneth Baird Music #719887. Published by Kenneth Baird Music (A0.1118368). Duets on traditional Christmas Carols, arranged for two intermediate or advancing trumpet players. If you are looking for simple harmonizations of Christmas Carols, this collection is not for you. If you are looking for something more, you've come to the right place. Much more than simply the basic familiar melody with a simple harmony part, the Carols included in this collection are: Away in a Manger, Carol of the Bells, the First Noel, Go Tell It on the Mountain, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Hark the Herald Angel Sings, Medley in 6/8 (In Dulci Jubilo…aka Good Christian Men Rejoice, Sussex Carol, and I Saw Three Ships), It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, Joy to the World, O Come All Ye Faithful, Silent Night, We Three Kings, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and What Child is This? Many have enjoyed the duet arrangements found in 12 Christmas Duets, Volumes 1 & 2, arranged by Kenneth Baird. However, the range and technical demands of many of those arrangements made some of them beyond the reach of many intermediate trumpet players. These new arrangements fill the need for Christmas duet arrangements for intermediate players that are interesting, challenging, a joy for friends to play together and a great resource for teachers to play at lessons with their students. Additionally, these are suitable for informal Christmas performances and many are appropriate for Christmas church services. Many of these new arrangements are based on the earlier more advanced arrangements, but these have fewer range and technical demands, as well as other changes. While still more challenging than the sort of Christmas Carol duets that are simply the basic melody with an added harmony part, most intermediate trumpet players will find these arrangements to be a great fit. …and more advanced players will likely find them enjoyable, too! Note: the duets in this collection have NOT been arranged to be fully compatible with Mr. Baird's similarly titled duet collections for other instruments. Instead, these have been arranged specifically for trumpets.

Old Cavalry Fanfare for 3 Bb Trumpets & Kettledrums

Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.978843 By Keith Terrett. By Anon. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Baroque,Classical,Instructional,Traditional,Wedding. 6 pages. Keith Terrett #584509. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.978843). A Fanfare for three Bb Trumpets & Timpani. This was arranged from an old melody of unknown origin, for Eb Cavalry Trumpets and Kettledrums of the Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars Band, a former Northern Irish Regiment within the British Army; whose Colonel in Chief was HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Winston Churchill was a young officer in the regiment, before the amalgamation of the 4th & 8th Hussars, to form the ’Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars’’. All cavalry regiments of the line, have a team of Cavalry Trumpets, who under the ’Trumpet Major’, play at 11am each day outside regimental headquarters, for the Regiment. Traditionally the fanfare ’stables’ would be played first; followed by another fanfare of the ’’Trumpet Major’s’’ choice. In cavalry regiments there is often a drum horse, on which the two timpani are positioned and played. An example would be the Queen’s Own Hussars, who for many years had a fine old drum horse, trained not to panic when the kettledrums were being played fortissimo! During the day, one trumpeter is on duty, and plays various trumpet calls throughout the day to signal important happenings in the regiment’s daily schedule of events. For example, Reveille is at 0630, Mess call at 0700, Mess call 1230, Guard mount 1800, Officers dress for dinner 2000, finishing with last post at 2200! There are also trumpet calls for fire, war and mucking out the horses! One morning when I was on trumpet duty in Germany at the tender age of 18, I woke up late, and just managed to play the ’’Reveille’’ trumpet call out of my bedroom window, in an effort not to be ’charged’ for missing a call! The equivalent in the Infantry would be the bugle, which is also used as a method of signaling to the regiment. This fanfare works well for three Bb trumpets and timpani. Eb cavalry trumpets are often written in the key of C, and harmonically there is no third on chord V due to the harmonics of the instrument, and the fact that they have no valves; giving a bare sounding chord. The trills in the first part are lip trills, on Bb trumpet, simply play a lip trill using the valves 1 & 3. The most famous Eb cavalry trumpeters in the British Army, are undoubtedly the trumpeters of the household cavalry, who perform in spectacular golden uniforms, complete with riding hats, at the state opening of parliament. Don’t forget Eb cavalry trumpeters are musicians from the band,(they could be clarinettists),assigned to trumpet for two to three years, not so good for your embouchure!! So when you hear a mis-pitched note in future, you know that the trumpeter could be a bassoonist, doing his or her very best.

A Breeze from Alabama

Trumpet, piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.972642 Composed by Scott Joplin…

Trumpet, piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.972642 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by James Siddons. Folk,Holiday,Patriotic,Ragtime. Score and parts. 24 pages. James Siddons Music and Writings #3124007. Published by James Siddons Music and Writings (A0.972642). Although published as a piano solo (1902), A Breeze from Alabama is subtitled March and Two Step and has a dedication on the cover to P. G. Lowery (Perry George Lowery, 1871-1942), World's Challenging Colored Cornetist and Band Master. Thus, A Breeze from Alabama may well have been conceived as a march for military band but published only as a piano solo. No band arrangement by Joplin is known to exist, but Joplin could have done this, as he himself was a cornetist as well as pianist, and had played cornet in bands like Lowery's many times. Drawing on this information, the present arrangement by James Siddons (2017) is based on the following assumptions: 1. A Breeze from Alabama originated as a march (in march-trio form) for military band. 2. The 1902 publication is a piano reduction of that band work. The melodic lines intended for cornet solo are generally discernible in the piano reduction. 3. A setting for piano duet (or ensemble) keeps this work in the tradition of ragtime piano while also emulating the fulsome tone colors of brass instruments to a degree that a solo piano cannot do. Thus this arrangement is not a solo-and-accompaniment setting, but a setting for large ensemble with soloist. It is collaborative music, akin to a concerto. This piano duet part may be performed by two pianists at one piano, or two pianists at two pianos, or four pianists at two pianos, or even six pianists at three pianos, with or without a conductor. The cornet part may be played on trumpet. There are three score or part versions for sale:1. The full score is for use by a conductor or instructor. An audio track (mp3, virtual sounds) is posted here.2. The piano duet (or ensemble) score has the Primo and Secondo parts shown on facing left and right pages as is standard for piano duet music. (No audio recording.)3. The cornet (or trumpet) part is sold separately and has a rehearsal recording posted, in which only the piano duet music is heard. This arrangement features a cadenza for cornet composed by James Siddons. The cadenza is found in measures 115-119 in the score and cornet part. In the rehearsal recording, there is five seconds of silence beginning 2 mins, 44 secs into the audio track. The music resumes at measure 120. To practice with the cadenza, press pause on your media player; to practice without the cadenza, simply wait the silence out.

The First Noel for Trumpet & Piano

B-Flat Trumpet,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548502 Composed by Tradit…

B-Flat Trumpet,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548502 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christian,Christmas. Score and part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3387385. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548502). The First Noel arranged for Trumpet in Bb & Piano with new harmony for the final verse.Origins The First Noel is an English Christmas carol. Even more, it was probably written in the late Cornish Renaissance period. While other versions spell the title as Nowell, this is just a colloquial variation. Furthermore, Noel is an older word meaning Christmas. Therefore the First Noel translates as the First Christmas. First of all, Gilbert and Sandy published the earliest version. As a result, this version appears in the Carols Ancient and Modern songbook of 1823. William Sandy edited and arranged the book. Similarly, his partner Davies Gilbert edited and added the familiar extra verses. The First Noel: Trumpet Version comes with new harmony in final verse for more energy and drive. Stainer Organist and composer Sir John Stainer published the most noteworthy customary arrangement in the 1870’s. Stainer is above all famous for his songbook entitled: Christmas Carols New and Old (1871). This volume served as an important catalyst for reviving the English Christmas carol. Other famous Stainer arrangements from this book are such titles as What Child Is This, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Good King Wenceslas, and I Saw Three Ships. Diatonic Function The melodic structure in the First Noel is uncommon among English folk tunes. It simply repeats one phrase twice then follows a variation refrain. All three phrases of the song end on the mediant scale degree. This is unusual because the diatonic function of the mediant is non-final compared to the more usual tonic or even dominant degrees. Consequently, this gives the song as kind of open-ended feeling – like maybe it never really ends. Political Context The Catholic clergy sang carols outside of the church in Latin. After the Protestant Reformation, the reformers thought it would be better for everyone to sing carols. They decided to bring music back to the common folk. So, they translated the lyrics from Latin into common language. Moreover, the Protestants wanted more control over the music in church than what the Vatican allowed. Protestant composers such as William Byrd composed complex polyphonic Christmas music that they called carols. Nonetheless, some famous folk carols were composed in this era. Eminent composers in the nineteenth century began to revise and adapt them. Consequently, they revived the English carol. Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

David McKeown #6022279. Published by David McKeown (A0.589329). Silver Wedding, (Die Silberne Khasene in Yiddish), is a Jewish Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Clarinet. Jewish Wedding bands, prominent in early twentieth century New York, were well placed to take advantage of the phonograph recording revolution. Accordingly, we are fortunate to have a rich record of the musical style of the time. Silver Wedding first appeared in a 1915 recording by Abe Elenkrig’s Orchestra. Elenkrig was born in Ukraine, which may point to the origins of the tune. Silver Wedding is in a Bulgar style, a happy piece designed to escort the newly-weds from the ceremony to the feast. Silver Wedding is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a short introduction and coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment. Silver Wedding is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around three minutes, this version of Silver Wedding is perfect for weddings, celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal.
