Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802677). Born in Venice, Marcello was the son of a senator. As such, he enjoyed a comfortable life that gave him the scope to pursue his interest in music. He was a contemporary of Tomaso Albinoni. He held concerts in his hometown and also composed and published several sets of concertos, including six concertos under the title of La Cetra (The Lyre), as well as cantatas, arias, canzonets, and violin sonatas. Marcello, being a slightly older contemporary of Antonio Vivaldi, often composed under the pseudonym Eterio Stinfalico, his name as a member of the celebrated Arcadian Academy (Pontificia Accademia degli Arcadi). He died in Padua in 1747.Alessandro's brother was the more well-known Benedetto Marcello, also a composer.Although most of his works are infrequently performed today, Marcello is regarded as a very competent composer. His La Cetra concertos are unusual for their wind solo parts, concision and use of counterpoint within a broadly Vivaldian style, according to Grove, placing them as a last outpost of the classic Venetian Baroque concerto.[citation needed]The Concerto for Oboe and Strings in D minor op. 1, S D935, is an early 18th-century concerto for oboe, strings and continuo. Perhaps his best-known work. Its worth was affirmed by Johann Sebastian Bach who transcribed it for harpsichord (BWV 974). A number of editions have been published, including an edition in C minor because the baroque oboe played a whole tone lower than the modern oboe.Here is a take on brass instruments, with a basic or an advanced version for the euphonium soloist. Il Concerto per pianoforte e orchestra n. 2 in do minore, Op. 18 è il più popolare ed eseguito dei quattro concerti per pianoforte del compositore russo Sergej Vasil'eviÄ Rachmaninov, nonché uno dei concerti per pianoforte più famosi di tutti i tempi. Fu composto tra il 1900 ed il 1901.Il terzo movimento riprende il tono marziale del primo movimento, ma con un'atmosfera più ironica. Il primo tema ha un carattere guizzante, saltellante; dopo una sua elaborazione, si arriva al secondo tema, dolcemente cantabile, presentato dalle viole e dall'oboe e ripreso dal pianoforte, tema che indubbiamente può essere considerato tra i più belli e i più celebri fra tutti quelli composti da Rachmaninov. Lo sviluppo centrale si basa sul primo tema, che viene spezzettato ed alternato fra il solista e vari strumenti, con un accenno di un passo fugato. Questo sviluppo si salda praticamente con la ripresa, che si afferma con il ritorno, adesso con i violini, del secondo tema. Da qui deriva una nuova elaborazione prevalentemente mossa che porta, con il cambio della tonalità in do maggiore, alla trionfale affermazione del secondo tema (che quindi è il vero protagonista del finale) a piena orchestra. Segue una breve coda nuovamente mossa che in un clima ora festoso e trascinante porta alla conclusione. Terminano il brano tre accordi ripetuti che rappresentano la firma ritmica del compositore: ta- tatata (Rach - maninov).Esiste una leggenda riguardo al famosissimo secondo tema di questo movimento. A detta del critico Leonid Sabaneev tale tema non sarebbe di Rachmaninov, ma di un suo amico, Nikita Morozov. Ascoltando un brano di Morozov, Rachmaninov avrebbe detto: Oh, ma è una melodia che avrei potuto comporre io. Ebbene, perché non te la prendi?, avrebbe risposto Morozov, e Rachmaninov non si sarebbe fatto pregare.

This piece was inspired by a post-concert reception with the Sioux City Symphony to which all musicians, season ticket holders, and other select guests were invited. As I found a place to sit down and geek out with some fellow trumpeters, a group of concertgoers began to gather at the adjacent table. Each guest that joined that animated group added more character until they had spilled over into our small gathering. Their conversations also spilled over, including a couple of mild warnings about one final guest who would be joining us, who had already had just a bit too much to drink. Of course, she sat by me—a seasoned Brit with an easy-going love of life. During the course of the evening, several pairs of glasses made their way out of her purse and onto her head. Her friend asked me to take her picture and send it to her. That dignified portrait, textured and filtered with color highlights, became the cover to this work. “Concertgoers†is a musical soundtrack to that memorable evening with the unforgettable group of concertgoers. It begins with the motivic intro in the horn that becomes the main melodic content throughout the work which repeats in allusion to concertgoers joining the festivities one by one until the party blooms in full. Quirky and fun, this piece paints a fitting aural picture of the cacophonous reception and varied chatter of the evening. The use of chromaticism provides much of the quirkiness, along with the use of mixed meter for some of the varieties of that night of entertainment. These modern compositional techniques challenge a good college-level quintet, though it is accessible to the musicians and listenable to the average concertgoer. To program it on a brass quintet concert or recital aptly tips the hat in acknowledgement of the audience, as it is a dedicated piece just for them!

PRACTICE needs would vary according to the level of the performers but my goal is to be sight-readable for most performers and groups. AUDIO SAMPLE The 30 second mp3 is frequently shortened and may not start at the introduction to get to the reprise. The actual introduction will be in the sheet music. LISTENABILITY I have performed thousands of weddings and special events. I make it a goal for the music to carry as well as possible through loud and large space situations. ARRANGEMENTS usually follow the original version. There is an mp3 where you can hear 30 seconds and get a feeling of the originality of the work. EXCELLENT for corporate events, weddings, social gatherings and recitals. Corelli's Christmas Concerto composed around 1690 is formally known as Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No. 8 published posthumously in 1714 as one of twelve works under opus 6. The composer inscribed it Fatto per la notte di Natale Made for the Night of Christmas. The final movement is the famous Pastoral ad libitum traditionally performed for Christmas eve services. Originally scored for a chamber string ensemble, Paul Erion has brilliantly arranged this 15 minute work for a brass quintet of advanced performers.Instrumentation is for 2 Trumpets in C (B-flat parts supplied as well), Horn in F, Trombone (some tenor clef) and Tuba.
