Includes score and parts: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax 1, Alto Sax 2, Bb Trumpet, Trombone (or Baritone), Mallets, Bass Drum, and Cymbals. When I arranged this, I only had early elementary clarinet players so that part is entirely written below the break. It can be taken up an octave for more advanced players. There is a flute solo for your best flute player, it could also be omitted if necessary. The mallet part could also be omitted in a pinch. It Is Well With My Soul is a hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss. First published in Gospel Songs No. 2 by Ira Sankey and Bliss (1876), it is possibly the most influential and enduring in the Bliss repertoire and is often taken as a choral model, appearing in hymnals of a wide variety of Christian fellowships. Horatio Spafford's original lyrics are included below. This is playable for 2nd-year players and has split parts to provide easier ranges for younger players and add more harmonic texture. Frank Loesser's Academy Award winning Baby It's Cold Outside is a Christmas Classic but started life as a party piece for Loesser and his wife to sing at at celebrity parties. It has been covered by dozens of singers, including Zooey Deschanel and Leon Redbone for the 2003 film Elf. However, this version is based on Tom Jones & Cerys Matthews' recording from his 1998 album Reload. During the 1940s, when Hollywood celebrities attended parties, they were expected to perform. In 1944, Frank Loesser wrote Baby, It's Cold Outside for his wife, Lynn Garland, and himself to sing at a housewarming party in New York City at the Navarro Hotel. They sang the song to indicate to guests that it was time to leave. The song was an instant success and according to his wife We become instant parlor room stars. We got invited to all the best parties for years on the basis of 'Baby.' It was our ticket to caviar and truffles. Parties were built around our being the closing act. The song started to reach a wider audience when in 1948, after years of performing the song, Loesser sold it to MGM for the 1949 romantic comedy Neptune's Daughter. In the film, Baby, It's Cold Outside was sung by Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalbán, then by Betty Garrett and Red Skelton, who reversed the roles. The song won the Academy Award.

The single became the band's second No. 1 hit in the Billboard Hot 100, and it is one of the few chart-toppers in history to hit No. 1 on more than one occasion during a one-month period, as it did between November and December 1975. It topped the American pop chart for one week, and then was replaced by another disco song, Fly, Robin, Fly by Silver Convention. That's the Way (I Like It) returned to No. 1 for one more week after Fly, Robin, Fly completed three weeks at the top. That's the Way (I Like It) also spent one week at No. 1 in the soul singles chart. The song is in natural minor. The song was also an international chart hit, reaching No. 1 in Canada[4] and the Netherlands and charting in Australia (No. 5), Belgium (No. 2), Germany (No. 20), Ireland (No. 17), New Zealand (No. 12), Norway (No. 5) and the United Kingdom (No. 4). For release as a single and radio airplay, the song was toned down from the original recording, which would have jeopardized it receiving getting radio airplay at the time. However the sexual overtones may have improved the record's reception at discos, increasing its overall popularity in the charts.

It's been designed to be played by large or small instrumental ensembles. It uses swing eighth note rhythms and incorporates most of the usual instruments of a concert band or orchestra, or jazz ensemble. Lyrics are not included, however it retains all six verses as it goes through key changes and a D.S. al Coda. Thus the lyrics from a hymn book could be used to sing all six verses. The first verse is a slow chorale style passage. Then it goes to fast tempo jazz style, much like a New Orleans style derge, or funeral march. The piece is 2:45 minutes in length, but could be shortened, by about 50 seconds, by playing straight through without taking the D.S. al Coda. It would also make an impressive half time show piece for marching band. A performance/play along track is available separately - see item number S0.873189.

The alternate version is also a swing -- same tune with different harmonization. The March 2020 Covid-19 influenza scare is the subject of Wait It Out. The lyrics express an individual’s efforts to cope with being isolated, away from friends – social distancing to discourage the spread of the flu. I wrote this tune in the Locrian mode, which conveys a sad, surreal mood associated with self-isolation. The coda brightens the mood with a change to Ionian (major) mode.Here are the lyrics:Wait It Out1. I’m not having fun home alone. I’m chewing my nails to the bone. I don’t pretend to comprehend. Players of Tag occasionally get tired of the chase, and that is uniquely displayed in the minor section. Ultimately the excitement of the game takes off again and closes the piece. Tag, You're It ! lends itself to some wonderful teachable moments. The melodic line exposes the delight of the chase, and the classical elements of musical format can be clearly defined and taught in reference to the game.
