The Passion Chorale is performed during Holy Week. Cum esset is performed during the Christmas season and Tu solus is a Sacred Motet from 1503.

To play it is to be taken inside a sound world greater than the instrument itself. In other words, it seems to demand orchestration. Whether the fanfare call of Puckâ??s Dance, the sotto voce flurries evoking The Wind Over The Plains, or the deepest and highest reaches of the musical spectrum explored in the under-water world of The Sunken Cathedral, Debussyâ??s music seems to drop hints at obvious orchestral manoeuvres. His great skill, of course, was condensing these musical ideas to the piano. But the fruit is there fo the taking, and indeed other orchestrations exist of the complete suite of piano preludes â?? Books I and II. So, why another?This particular suite cherry-picks some of my own favourite movements from the suite, and arranges them in a â??symphonicâ?? structure to present an opening, expository movement (The Wind Over The Plains), a romantic Adagio (The Girl With The Flaxen Hair), a sprightly â??scherzoâ?? (Puckâ??s Dance), concluding with an epic finale (The Sunken Cathedral). This condensed suite may make the music more approachable for some orchestras, and offers something shorter to concert programmes wishing to feature other major works alongside, instead of performing all 24 preludes.I hope you enjoy performing this suite as much as I enjoyed arranging it.Instrumentation: Piccolo 2 Flutes 2 Oboes Cor Anglais 2 Clarinets in Bâ? There was speculation about the meaning of the title, including one hypothesis that led the song to be banned in Singapore for over 20 years for alleged allusions to drugs, but according to the composer the song is about writing music in the early morning, and the title is nothing more salacious than 3:35am (25 to 4) or 3:34am (26 to 4).In any case, this song remains a classic of the rock genre 40 years after its publication, and is arranged here for 10 Bb trumpets. Most of the higher and more difficult licks are concentrated in the top 4 parts, and the 1st part requires particular skill (leading me to mark this arrangement's difficulty as advanced intermediate), but each trumpeter involved will have have at least one moment of guitar-solo glory. Perfect for a large trumpet ensemble with diverse skill levels.

The subtitle actually does not refer to romantic love, but a medieval romance such as some of Wagner's operas.The movement titled Scherzo is full of adventure and vitality with a relaxed middle section. Bruckner himself hinted that the Scherzo movement was a Jadthema or hunting theme and Volkfest or people's festival. It is a set of four concerti for Violin, each of the four representing one of the four seasons. A performance of the entire original set would take at least 40 minutes. This version is a collection of the main themes presented as a short suite and takes approximately 5 minutes to perform. Alternatively, each of the movements may be performed as a separate piece. The aim of this arrangement was to give Early Intermediate Level Woodwind and/or Brass players an opportunity to perform what is undoubtedly one of the most well-known pieces of Baroque string repertoire. The instrumentation is flexible, allowing for many different combinations of instruments, including Clarinet Trio/ Ensemble, Saxophone Trio/Ensemble, Brass Trio/Ensemble and even Concert Band. The Solo at the start of the 4th Movement (Winter) is an opportunity to feature a Part 1 player who is more advanced. The inclusion of this short section is entirely optional. Part 4 is optional and can be used to include a Tuba and/or less competent players of Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone and F Horn. The inclusion of a Tuba is preferable in the case of a large brass ensemble. The inclusion of a Bass Clarinet (Part 3 or 4) is preferable in a large clarinet ensemble.
