It begins with a music box effect and builds to a triumphant chorus. The Harp 1 part uses both hands in the treble clef. At the chorus, Harp 1 builds to forte playing glissandos and triads doubled in both hands. Harp 2 plays eighth note arpeggios in the treble clef at the beginning. At the chorus it alternates LH octaves and RH chords in the bass clef for a full sound.

This download includes the score, Harp I and Harp II. My harp duets are consistent in their configuration. Harp I part is the most difficult, and can be played on lever or pedal harp. Harp II part is generally easier, and lap harp friendly. So this duet is suitable for student/teacher duet practice, and for almost any combination of two harp players. Or even an ensemble with several playing each part. The audio sample was digitally produced.

The words of this hymn that we know today first appeared in 1758 in a collection of poetry used in a church meeting in Cambridge, UK. The folk melody, named Hallelujah or Good Shepherd, appeared in 1813 in A Repository of Sacred Music, Part Second published by John Wyeth in Pennsylvania. Wyeth was a compiler of music for the purpose of publishing, not a musician. The tune of the hymn is called Nettleton. Asahel Nettleton was an evangelist from Connecticut who worked in New England. There is no indication that he wrote any music. The first appearance of this melody with the Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing lyrics was published by Darius Jones in 1852. Charles Ives used this folk melody in two of his compositions: First String Quartet and the song The Innate.This duet is in the key of D. The melody is divided evenly between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked.

This sweet, well known Christmas melody was originally a Finnish springtime song, dating to the 13th Century. It was published in 1582 in a book of seventy-four songs. After receiving a copy of that book as a gift, John Mason Neale set his lyrics celebrating the famous Bohemian (907-935) to this melody. In 1854, the book Carols for Easter-tide was published, including Good King Wenceslas as a Springtime song. This arrangement has 5 verses in the key of G. It represents Good King Wenceslas and his Page trudging through (eighth notes) the harsh winter weather on December 26 as they leave their warm castle to help the poor. Occasionally there is a pause as they catch their breath or look through the swirling snow at how far they have traveled. The fourth verse represents the Page walking in King Wenceslas’s footsteps. The melody is divided evenly between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked. You will receive the Score, Harp I, and Harp II.

Fifteen Arrangements of Traditional Tunes from Cornwall arranged for Lever harps tuned in Eb, Bb or F, or any pedal harp.  Guitar chords included, with duo parts for Flute or Violin.These tunes have been placed in progressive key order to create a satisfying “Cornish suite†that facilitates lever and pedal changes. All tunes were typeset to fix exactly on two facing pages to eliminate any page turns within a piece.Guitar chords are included so that the melody may be played by any C instrument, accompanied by chords on harp, lute, guitar, or keyboard. Also, the transcribed harp part can be played on any keyboard instrument with only minor adjustments. Only one song in this collection, #6, has any lever or pedal changes (B-flat and B-natural). Otherwise, there are only lever or pedal presets in preparation for the next song. Dynamic markings, fingerings, metronome markings, breath marks, and lever/pedal changes are provided throughout. However, the musicians should use whichever expressive markings and lever/pedal adjustments suit them, no matter what this book indicates! Due to space constraints, first and second endings were only indicated above the flute/violin part in the full score and dynamics only within the harp part; but these markings apply to both instruments. (However, all markings are indicated on the separate instrumental leaflet.) This entire book of arrangements can be played on a harp of only 26 strings (3.5 octaves), from low C to high G. Simply treat the C two octaves below middle C as the lowest C on your harp and adjust the octaves accordingly. This sweet, well known Christmas melody was originally a Finnish springtime song, dating to the 13th Century. It was published in 1582 in a book of seventy-four songs. After receiving a copy of that book as a gift, John Mason Neale set his lyrics celebrating the famous Bohemian (907-935) to this melody. In 1854, the book Carols for Easter-tide was published, including Good King Wenceslas as a Springtime song. This arrangement has 5 verses in the key of G. It represents Good King Wenceslas and his Page trudging through (eighth notes) the harsh winter weather on December 26 as they leave their warm castle to help the poor. Occasionally there is a pause as they catch their breath or look through the swirling snow at how far they have traveled. The fourth verse represents the Page walking in King Wenceslas’s footsteps. The melody is divided evenly between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked.Â

Perhaps it was an anonymous Cistercian Monk, or King John IV of Portugal (1604-1656), or John Reading (1645-1692) or John Francis Wade (1711-1786). The first published version of it was in 1751 by John Francis Wade, a Scottish scholar of plainchant so he is often given credit as its composer. This arrangement has three verses of increasing difficulty; each using harmonics in the quiet sections. The dynamics are clearly marked. The melody is divided evenly between parts. The easier Trio version can be played along with this duet version to give 5 parts.

This duet is suitable for student/teacher duet practice, and for almost any combination of two harp players. Or even an ensemble with several playing each part.
