It is the 10th movement of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. It was written during Bach's first year in Leipzig, Germany. Bach did not compose the melody. That was written by Johann Schop. Bach only harmonized and orchestrated Schop's melody. A transcription of Jesu was done by English pianist Myra Hess (1890-1965), and was published in 1926 for solo piano.In 1934, Hess' version was adapted for piano duet. British organist Peter Hurford made a transcription of Jesu for organ. Today, Bach's piece is often performed at weddings and funerals. Bach wrote the piece for voices with trumpet, oboes, strings and continuo. Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is one of Bach's most enduring pieces of music.The present version is a facilitated reduction of the theme where it is soloed by Viola, along with piano accompaniment with chords that can be performed by the teacher and the ends. Originally scored for choir, trumpet, violin and basso continuo, it was written in 1723 for the church of St Thomas in Leipzig where Bach was employed. This version is scored for Two Violas. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The famous melody in 9/8 alternates with the slow 4-part chorale sections. All players will enjoy experiencing the rich texture of Bach’s harmony. The overall performance time is around three minutes if played at the faster tempo that Bach preferred. The sample recording is from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version of this duet. The complete performance on youtube is from the Clarinet version. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to introduce 9/8 rhythms. The Oboe Concerto in D minor, S D935, is an early 18th-century concerto for oboe, strings and continuo attributed to the Venetian composer Alessandro Marcello. The earliest extant manuscript containing Johann Sebastian Bach's solo keyboard arrangement of the concerto, BWV 974, dates from around 1715.Bach's keyboard version was published as an arrangement of a concerto by Antonio Vivaldi in the 19th century. In 1923 the C minor version of the oboe concerto was published as a composition by Benedetto Marcello, Alessandro's brother. In the second half of the 20th century several publications indicated Alessandro again as the composer of the piece, as it had been in its early 18th-century print, and the oboe concerto was again published in its D minor version.This easy arrangement for viola with piano accompaniment of the marvelous second movement (adagio) of the concerto is suitable for any occasion.

The famous Golliwogg’s Cakewalk is the final piece from Debussy's cycle Children’s Corner which consists of 6 miniatures for piano, written for his daughter in the years 1906-1908. The style corresponds to that of ragtime, a dance which was in vogue around the turn of the century. In the middle section, he parodies several times the beginning of the opera Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner with whom Debussy had a rather ambiguous relationship. The present arrangement now allows musicians to play the popular movement in a version for melodic instrument with accompaniment.

The piece was premiered in Paris in 1888, and underwent several revisions in subsequent years. The Requiem was performed at Fauré’s own funeral in 1924, but it’s only in recent years that this gentle version of the Mass for the Dead has received the international recognition it deserves. Contemporary performances in Parisian churches required the Pie Jesus to be sung by a boy treble, but in the concert hall, Fauré always preferred a soprano voice for the part.This arrangement transcribes the orchestral score as a Solo for Viola with Piano accompaniment. Both the piano score and the solo part are included in the pdf file. The linked youtube performance is the clarinet version of this arrangement.Soloists at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The rhythms are straightforward, and there is plenty of scope for expressive, lyrical playing. The slow tempo though will require good bow and tone control. The piano part is suitable for an intermediate player. He was not a trained singer so Mozart deliberately wrote a simple melody of limited range. This version is arranged as a duet for two ViolasMusicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest. The duet format gives instrumentalists an opportunity to play music written for the voice. The overall performance time is around a minute and a half.
