The Devil's Rag is a fun little xylophone rag based on some of the famous Green brothers' rags that really made xylophone literature catch on. This is more advanced and requires some quick hands, but is really entertaining. It is mostly in C minor, but plays in C major as well. It is meant to depict the xylophone player trying to entertain the devil while keeping his (or her) own sanity. The player is the jester of the underground, making some interesting music and harmony while keeping rhythmic ideas quick and steady. Truly a joy to play. .

Juan MarÃa Solare: Post this and neo that a meta-toccata for solo xylophone Post this and neo that means, in this piece, the coexistence of different musical languages and techniques, such as toccata, blues, baroque or atonal (twelve-tone harmonic fields) – and everything with a tango nuevo flair. Sometimes, this term is slightly pejorative and usually heard when conservative concert-goers and true-music lovers grumble about the proliferation of superfluous aesthetic movements with prefixes such as post- or neo-, or suffixes such as -ism or -ologie. Choosing this expression as title is actually an irony at both (conservatism and pluralism) and as such mainly a general mockery at the urge of putting labels (possibly in order to sell better). If you analyze carefully, you will find styles and devices such as post-Prokofiev, meta-tango, neo-renaissance, nano-variations, turbo-harmony, ultra-melodism and hyper-rhythmic in this piece of crypto-music. If you analyze even more carefully you will find nearly everything. And if you omni-analyze it, you will find the supra-truth. Anyway, what I found is eight times the same structure: A A B A (whereby B is an integrated contrast); the macro form also follows this idea of two similar statements, one quite different, reappearance of the first statement varied but recognizable. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844593). This fun piece is loosely based on a popular Russian folk polka. In 1853 Charles Czerny took this polka tune and created a piano etude as part of his set Amusement des Juenes Amateurs. I have taken some of his themes and adapted and arranged them for instrumental solo. I have assembled them into a Rondo form: Intro-A-B-A-C-A-D-A-Coda. It is an etude (study) to sharpen your playing of scales, arpeggios, melodic interval leaps, and various articulations. But it doesn't at all sound like an exercise because of the playful nature of the polka. This dramatic piece shows your technical accomplishments while delivering a crowd pleasing tune with great flourish.I have marked it as Intermediate in difficulty as a general average. The notes and rhythms are Easy, the quick Tempo makes it Intermediate. As a theorist, his areas of study vary widely, including 18th century counterpoint, the early American Sacred Harp tradition, and impressionism. As a composer, his music draws inspiration from nature, mathematics and poetry. In 2020 he was awarded the Michigan Music Education Association’s Young Composers of Michigan award, as well as first prize in the University of Toledo Young Composers competition. Lenhart has also participated in numerous ensembles across Michigan, including the MYAF All-State Choir, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club and the SMTD University Choir. He thoroughly enjoys collaboration with other composers, performers, poets and visual artists. Some of his recent projects include collaborations with individuals from the University of Michigan Chamber Music, History, and Poetry departments.
