Elena FortinLeonard Cohen was a Canadian singer, songwriter, poet, and novelist. His song, Hallelujah, is very popular among students and performers. It's simple harmonic and melodic structure has allowed it to be a used for holidays, funerals, weddings, worship, and even in the midst of tragedy.
This year, I've been arranging songs that I consider to be important. In my opinion, any song that can be used in so many different situations and appeals to so many different people certainly qualifies as an important contribution to song history!
My arrangement is written in 6/8 time, with arpeggios in the bass for the most part, and a verse and chorus repeated three times, each time a little bit differently, and with a little bit of melodic variation. The arrangement is intended for intermediate to early advanced players because it has four-note chords, some octave work, and an area where there are bass leaps in the left hand.
