Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.583140 By Pat Metheny. By Pat Metheny. Arranged by Jeff Tincher. Jazz. Score and part. 36 pages. Jeff Tincher #3572407. Published by Jeff Tincher (A0.583140). This is a Eb instrument and Piano arrangement of one of Pat Metheny's more popular movie songs. In the original key from the movie soundtrack, this song showcases Pat's use of complex chords, varied rhythms, and key changes that are well disguised within the struchture. I am a big Pat Metheny fan and this song is a great example of Pat's gentle side. Duration=6:03. Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755072 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 50 pages. Sy Brandon #3366105. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755072). Concertino was composed during 2009 at the request of Dr. Andy Wen and premiered by him at the Region 4 NASA Conference in April 2011. This piano reduction of the band parts was completed in 2011. The work is in three movements. The first movement is in an abbreviated sonata form in a spirited Vivace tempo. The first theme group consists more of motives rather than an actual theme and is characterized by interplay between the soloist and the band. The second theme group has a lyrical saxophone line over a staccato bass line. The development begins quietly with the treatment of a syncopated idea from the second theme using a trio of solo saxophone, timpani and euphonium. After further development, a variant of the first theme group returns. The recapitulation consists only of first theme group ideas before ending with a brief coda. The second and third movements are performed with out pause between them. While the first movement was created during 2009, the second and third movements are a reworking of an earlier work by the composer for alto saxophone and piano soloists with orchestra. A rubato Lento theme containing many triplets that is accompanied by lush harmony begins the second movement. It is followed by a more scale-wise melody that is treated contrapuntally. Both these ideas develop during the movement leading to a strong climax before returning to a quiet conclusion. The third movement is an Allegro, once again with a rhythmic opening idea that changes meter often, and a more lyrical second idea with scale-wise passages as counterpoint. The development of these ideas leads to a cadenza for the solo saxophonist, followed by a coda that brings the composition to a rousing conclusion.

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549254 Composed by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 15 pages. Jmsgu3 #3473685. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549254). Flight of the Bumblebee Flight of the Bumblebee is, to be sure, an orchestral interlude composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. Of course, Korsakov intended to portray a bumblebee's chaotic flying pattern musically. Nowadays, this piece is one of the comparatively more famous classical works because it frequently appears occasionally in popular culture. The piece appears notably in the opera at the close of Act III, Tableau 1. This is when the magic Swan-Bird changes the Prince (the son of the Tsar) into a bee so he can fly away to visit his father. Interestingly, at this point in the drama, his father, in effect, does not know that he is alive. Korsakov Background Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844 –1908) was a uniquely famous composer from Russia. He was likewise a member of an infamous assembly of composers called The Five. Korsakov was furthermore an expert in orchestration. His correspondingly most famous orchestral compositions- Capriccio Espagnol, the Russian Easter Festival Overture, and the Scheherazade suite- are essential monuments of the standard music repertoire. Also comparatively very important are his suites and excerpts from his 15 operas. Korsakov used Russian folklore and fairy tales, such as Scheherazade, in his music. Nationalistic Style Like fellow outspoken composer Balakirev, Korsakov believed in creating a nationalistic, Russia-centric style of classical music. The new style was called Orientalism. It similarly relied on native Russian materials, exotic scales, and experimental harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic procedures. This practice, conversely, ran counter to the developments in Western musical culture. Musical Developments Nevertheless, Korsakov developed an appreciation of Western musical techniques after he became a professor of musical composition, harmony, and orchestration at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1871. Moreover, he undertook a rigorous three-year program of self-education. He mastered Western methods, incorporating them with the influences of Mikhail Glinka and other members of The Five. His techniques of composition and orchestration were additionally enriched by his exposure to the works of Richard Wagner. Naval Service Korsakov combined his music career accordingly with a career in the Russian military. He was in the first place an officer in the Russian Navy. In due time, he was appointed a civilian Inspector of Naval Bands. As a result, Korsakov expanded his knowledge of woodwind and brass playing, which heightened his orchestration capabilities. Legacy In due time, Korsakov contributed a significant number of Russian nationalist works. He also prepared, occasionally, compositions by The Five for presentation. This brought their works straightaway into the active classical repertoire as well. He also shaped an entire generation of younger composers as a music educator. Therefore, music historians consider Korsakov the foremost engineer of what the public considers the Russian composition style. He served as a transitional figure between The Five and the classically trained composers who became the norm over time. In addition to the Russians, he influenced non-Russian composers such as Ravel, Debussy, Dukas, and Respighi. Â

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755042 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 23 pages. Sy Brandon #3249479. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755042). Fantasie Variation on Mazurek Dabrowskiego was commissioned in 2010 by David Wozniak. Wozniak suggested using the Polish National Anthem as the basis of a composition that can serve as a fiery opener to a concert. After a short introduction, the anthem is stated using a repetitive rhythmic motif in the piano. Variation one is a minor variant that has a chromatic obligato in the saxophone on the repeat. After a two measure interlude in 4/4 that breaks up the 3/4 meter of the mazurka, Variation two begins. This variation uses motives from the anthem to create a new saxophone melody. Variation three changes meter often and is more technical and angular. A repeat of the minor variant brings the first fast section to a close. After a transition to a slower tempo, a mysterious variation with sudden outbursts occurs. It uses a lot of feminine endings that are characteristic of some Polish music. The tempo slows once again before variation seven which is a lyrical and romantic treatment of motives from the anthem. The final fast section begins with a rhythmic 5/8 variation that changes to 6/8 for the second part of the anthem’s structure. An ornamental version of the anthem with the mazurka rhythm returns at the end before a rousing coda brings the work to a close. This composition is recorded by David Wozniak and Krista Wallace-Boaz on the Emeritus label American Fusion CD.

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.551997 Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Holiday,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 6 pages. Jmsgu3 #6050947. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.551997). Sonata in G Minor for Piano & Cello, Op. 65, Movement III - Largo.Chopin performed this Sonata on his final recital in 1848.The Largo from Chopin's Cello Sonata in G minor, Op. 65 is a significant work as it is one of only nine compositions by Chopin published during his lifetime for instruments other than the piano. The Sonata is remarkable for the concentration of its material, with much of the music in the first movement growing out of the opening statement and specific thematic shapes appearing in all its movements. The Largo, in particular, is known for its expressive and lyrical nature, showcasing Chopin's ability to write beautifully for a non-piano instrument. The Sonata was first publicly performed by Chopin and the work's dedicatee, Auguste Franchomme, at the composer's last public concert in 1848. The historical context behind Chopin's Largo from Sonata Op. 65 is rooted in the composer's radical stylistic changes during 1845-1846, which included an increasing prevalence of contrapuntal textures and metric flexibility. The Sonata, including the Largo, is filled with doubts and hesitation, reflecting the composer's difficult decisions and arduous labors. The piece is also notable for its thematic references from Schubert's Winterreise, mirroring the circumstances of Chopin's life when he wrote the Sonata, particularly his separation from George Sand.

Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2348193. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533345). Ali Ben Sou Alle was born Jean-Baptiste SOUALLE in 1824 in Arras, France. He first studied the clarinet, winning a first prize in Clarinet in the class of Klosé at the Paris Conservatory. He then entered the Paris Opera orchestra, but left France in 1848 because of the revolution, fleeing to London. In 1850, he met Louis JUILLIEN, another early saxophonist, who encouraged Soualle to take up the saxophone. Soualle made several modifications to the instrument, including changes to the octave mechanism and the other keys for trills and alternative fingerings, many of which are used in modern saxophones. He named his hybrid creation the turcophone and began composing works for the instrument, which included fantasies on operatic themes, character pieces and a series of descriptive works which document several concert tours in Europe, Australia and the Orient which Soualle undertook. Upon his return to France around 1861, after his conversion to Islam, he changed his name to Ali Ben Sou Alle. Under that name, he performe recitals for the Prince of Wales and for the Emperor Napoleon III and his family in 1865. After this date, no trace of his career has currently been uncovered and it is though that he probably died around 1867. This work is .in two large sections, the first in the form of a lyrical aria, the second a lively schezando.

Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2151147. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533263). Emanuele Krakamp was born in Messina in 1813. He began studying music with his father. In 1841 he was named first flute in the royal orchestra of Naples and was also named flute professor of San Pietro a Majella Conservatory in 1860. Krakamp performed concerts in Europe, America, the Middle East and North Africa. The Fantasy Opus 248 based on themes from Verdi's Opera La Traviata is part of a group of three fantasies called La triade verdiana, first published in 1865. Krakamp died in Naples in 1883.The version for saxophone remains close to the original version for flute, with only a few register changes because of range issues. Some passages in the piano part have been re-enforced harmonically and the ending has been slightly changed, to create a more definitive ending. .

This piece is in a brisk 2/4 time in C minor (concert), A minor transposition part, built on 2 main themes with small ornaments and rhythmic changes in the repetition. The pitch range is from E, first line to C, two leger lines above the staff. This is an excellent performance piece as it is quite showy without being unduly difficult.
