Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon) Duration 2 minutes 35 seconds. 23 Pages This is a fun set of variations on Robert Burns' My Love She's But a Lassie Yet) is sure to entertain in recital, at a Burns Night, St. Andrew's Night or for any occasion where there is a toast to Rabbie or to Scotland.Although Burns wrote the words of the song, he probably set them to a variation of an existing tune called Lady Badinscoth's Reel. This lively arrangement for Wind Quintet starts off with a stately ‘classical’ arrangement of My Love She’s But a Lassie Yet, but as it develops the tune combines with another traditional melody, followed by some operatic quotations, and even a five part fugue. It ends with an embellished restatement of the opening. It is great fun for all players. Â

Lullay, mine liking is a Middle English lyric poem or carol of the 15th century which frames a narrative describing an encounter of the Nativity with a song sung by the Virgin Mary to the infant Christ. The refrain is an early example of an English lullaby; the term lullaby is thought to originate with the lu lu or la la sound made by mothers or nurses to calm children, and by or bye bye, another lulling sound (for example in the similarly ancient Coventry Carol)There are a number of surviving medieval English verses associated with the birth of Jesus which take the form of a lullaby, of which this is probably the most famous example. Written by an anonymous hand, the text is found uniquely in Sloane MS 2593, a collection of medieval lyrics now held in the British Library.My arrangement is transcribed from Gustav Holst's setting of the text, which he calls Lullay, My Liking.It is number 2 from Holst's 4 Carols for Unaccompanied Choir Op.34Arranged wind quintetThe solo verses are played by oboe, flute, clarinet,oboe and bassoon together and finally horn.The refrain has been arranged in a differnt instrumental line up each time it is played.

This is my arrangement of Gustav Holst's arrangement.It is arranged for wind quintetThe French composer Marin Marais composed the tune as a dance for his opera Alcyone of 1706, with the title Marche pour les Matelots.The tune was subsequently included in Raoul Auger Feuillet's 1706 Recueil de contredansealong with a longways proper dance, La Matelotte, which Feuillet had himself written to go with the tune.In 1710 John Essex (d. 1744) published an English translation of Feuillet's work called, For the Further Improvement of Dancing, in which the dance is given as The Female Saylor.The words were written around 1860 while William Morris, then 26, was working as an apprentice in the office of the architect, Edmund Street, presumably under the persuasion of his fellow students who at that time had a taste for part-song. It became known as the Christmas Carol Masters in This Hall (alternative title: Nowell, Sing We Clear) Gustav Holst incorporated the carol into his work Three Carols H133 (1916–17) along with Christmas Song: On this Day and I Saw Three Ships. You can also buy each one individually by checking right at the end of each description of each work.1: Air on the G String - The original piece is part of Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 3 for orchestra, in D Major, BWV 1068, written for Prince Leopold of Anhalt. The so-called Air on the G String dates from one of these latter employments. In the service of the Prince of Cöthen, Bach composed not only the famous Brandenburg Concertos, but also several orchestral suites, from the third of which comes the Air on the G String. This curious title derives from a later arrangement of this piece for violin solo, in which the melody is played entirely on the lower, higher string of the instrument. ID: S0.11897712: Arioso - The Cantata 156 (BWV 156) was written for the third Sunday after Epiphany in 1729, and was first performed on January 23 of that year. The text is by Picander, one of Bach's favorite librettists. Of the four cantatas written by Bach for the feast, it was the last and only one scored for solo voice. This is a choral cantata, employing a choral melody in several movements. Cantata 156, in fact, employs two different choral melodies and texts in the second and sixth movements. A cantata is a sung symphony consisting of several parts, one of which is the Arioso, which is the initial instrumental part. ID: S0.11899813: Jesu, joy of man's desiring - This is one of Bach's most beautiful cantatas, made famous by the Jesus the Joy of Men chorus. It was originally composed for Advent 1716 in Weimar. Years later, already in Leipzig, Advent was tempus clausum, there was no music in the churches. Bach then reworked it for the Feast of Mary's Visitation. It is the final chorale of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Although it is the 32nd cantata composed by Bach, of those that have survived, it was given BWV 147 in the complete catalog of his works. ID: S0.11900334: O Jesulein süss, o Jesulein mild - The Jesulein süß, the Jesulein mild is an original traditional German choral melody for voice and continuous bass arranged by Johann Sebastian Bach around 1735. With lyrics by Valentin Thilo, O Jesulein süss is a sacred melody adapted and catalogued as BWV 493. The first translation is by Dirk van Hogendorp, who made it more of a song for the time of suffering. ID: S0.11901655: Minuet in G major - This famous piece has traditionally been attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, as it appears in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena , a notebook that Bach gave to his wife Anna Magdalena in 1725 and which was to be filled with the favorite selections of Bach family members. However, recent research has concluded that this minuet, sometimes referred to as BWV Anhang 114. was probably composed by Christian Petzold, a German composer and organist contemporary with Bach.
