Weeden 1896     The context of the song The LORD is in His Holy Temple is often overlooked in singing this song. Worship in the OT is a rather noisy affair with instruments, singing, shouting, dancing, and public praise. In the Old Testament, quiet in the Temple of God is an ominous, frightening thing, because God’s judgment is to be pronounced! I Surrender All is paired here with The LORD is in His Holy Temple thinking back to Isaiah 6 where Isaiah’s reaction to encountering the presence of God is surrender to Him. Yielding to God is, not only the prerequisite for avoiding God’s judgment, it is the path to peace and joy.     Without the doublestops of the violin part, the wind parts may not seem very challenging at first sight, but to play a beautiful legato with a full tone at piano and pianissimo (slowly, too) is much harder than it sounds. The prophetic ministries of Elijah and Elisha were used by God to produce a cluster of miracles that had a special purpose in the life of the nation. ♫ Besides the golden calves made by Jeroboam, the Israelites worshiped Ba’al, the supposed god of thunderstorms and fertility. The worship of Ba’al and his consort Asherah became popular, (not surprising since their representations were pornographic and the temples employed prostitutes of both genders and homosexuals for the use of worshippers.) The miracles of Elijah (involving drought and famine, flour, rain, and lightning mark a contest between Ba’al and Yahweh to show who really controls the seasons, the weather and harvests.♫ The movement is made of 4 themes: 1. The song also reflected the sadness and uncertainty of the war, as many lovers were separated or lost their lives in the conflict. Elvis recorded his version named Love Me Tender which was recorded in 1956 and released as a single, along with the movie of the same name. The movie was a musical Western, starring Presley as Clint Reno, a young man who falls in love with his brother's fiancée after the brother is presumed dead in the Civil War. The song was a huge hit, selling over a million copies before the movie was released. The song has a simple and gentle melody, with a romantic and sentimental lyric. The work was written to accompany the play of the same name by August von Kotzebue, for the dedication of a new theater in Pest. Perhaps the best known part of the composition is the Marcia alla turca, In Latin America, this movement became known in Jean-Jacques Perrey's version (who titled it The Elephant never Forgets) since it was used as the opening theme of the successful Mexican TV comedy El Chavo del Ocho. The opening and the turkish march are often performed separately, and the other pieces in this set are not often heard.

About the Arranger:Praised as a sensitive pianist and outstanding accompanist who delivers powerful interpretations, Nicole Elyse DiPaolo is a versatile pianist, composer, and scholar currently based in Bloomington, Indiana. She holds a B.Mus in Music Theory from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, where she studied piano under Michele Cooker and Louis Nagel; she also studied composition with Bright Sheng and basso continuo/harpsichord accompaniment with Edward Parmentier. As the Duo del Mare, violinist Amy Schlicher and I performed this arrangement aboard the ms Zaandam cruise liner, where it proved very popular. Because Amy and I did not have extra time or venues in which to rehearse, I intentionally made this arrangement very accessible (so that we could play it well without rehearsal or an intermediate-level duo could master it with some practice). This arrangement adapted for violin and piano was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, in order to be performed by young music students who want to enter the symphonic music. Besides, it can also be used by professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. As much as it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one change of key, so that it is comfortable for all the instruments in the formation, as well as for use in ensemble practice between musicians of different traditions.Ludwig van Beethoven began concentrated work on his Symphony No. 7 in A major Op. 92 in 1811, it was completed in 1812, and was dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries, and premiered in Vienna on December 8, 1813. It is considered a remarkable example of the more ebullient side of Beethoven's compositional personality and evidence that even after the onset of deafness, he still found cause for musical optimism. The second movement Allegretto is a funeral march in everything but name. Often several contrasting melodic ideas are made to coexist, as if Beethoven were imagining several processions converging on the cemetery at the same time. As he was working on this symphony during the years of the Napoleonic Wars, this experience was probably within his experience. It was also used as the soundtrack to the film Knowing, by director Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage, where it is used in the final scene of the film. Beethoven called Symphony No. 7 his most excellent symphony, and a music critic of the time reported, this symphony is the most melodically rich and the most pleasing and comprehensible of all Beethoven's symphonies..

Just as the passion subsides a bit, 'B' returns with the same urgency as before, growing more intense as the final iteration of the 'A' section, in a new key, asserts itself (fortissimo), gradually subsiding to pianissimo as the piece comes to a tranquil close.
