This publication by Violin Friends is an arrangement of his composition for a piano quartet. The individual parts can be played by a junior string orchestra or an intermediate level string trio, but the piano part requires an advanced player especially in the last variations.The arrangement gives the opportunity for school orchestras to perform the arrangement with 12 different piano students from beginner students to more advanced players.The parts include easily readable parts (with a big font size) for: Violin (6 pages), Viola (7 pages), Cello (6 pages).

This is the third movement from Shavano Suite, a set of four pieces inspired by folklore and campfire tales of the Maysville/Mount Shavano area in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The suite was originally scored for classical guitar duet, but this version is expanded for classical guitar, string quartet and percussion. The percussion requires drum (or timpani), glockenspiel, guiro and wind chimes. Performance time for the suite is 17 minutes. This movement, however, can stand alone as a concert piece, with a performance time of 3 minutes. Performance demand is advanced intermediate level. This arrangement began as one for violin trio, but was later expanded into that for brass and full strings.  In writing this, the arranger aimed to be respectful of the original recording, while not necessarily being true to it.  The aim was to provide a fusion of rock and symphonic styles, while also including some of the arranger’s own stylistic sensibilities.  This arrangement was written for the 2023-2024 West Virginia Youth Symphony, based in Charleston, WV, and was completed on April 17, 2024.Difficulty: Intermediate-AdvancedApproximate duration:  4’50â€.

This is the final movement from Shavano Suite, a set of four pieces inspired by folklore and campfire tales of the Maysville/Mount Shavano area in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The suite was originally scored for classical guitar duet, but this version is expanded for guitar, string quartet and percussion. The percussion part requires a large drum (or timpani), glockenspiel, guiro and wind chimes. The suite has a total performance time if 17 minutes. This movement, however, can stand alone as a concert piece, with a performance time of 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Performance demand is advanced intermediate level. In the myth, Atalanta is a swift and brave Princess who is challenged by a band of young suitors to a race. To the winners, she offers a prize of marriage. As we listen to Handel's composition, we can imagine the race beginning with the slow and steady 'Largo', as Atalanta calmly assesses the present, and takes her time to decide her path. As the 'Allegro' begins, we can feel her strength and power as she embarks on her journey, full of excitement and determination. As the piece builds, we can feel her courage and enthusiasm as she confronts the race ahead. Published by Adrian Dee (A0.817949). I wrote Fantasy in the late spring of 2019. Before I could arrange a premier, the COVID-19 pandemic set in and everything stopped. I finally had the joy of premiering the piece on December 8, 2021, with my home team the Newport Symphony in Newport, Oregon, with Adam Flatt conducting. The audience was on their feet for both the matinee and the evening performances, so I guess they liked it! The piece is melodic, rhythmic, tonal, and just plain fun to play. It goes together easily. Each movement is about five and a half minutes, total play time about 17 minutes. It is appropriate for advanced student groups as well as professional groups. The first movement, Busy Day (Presto), makes repeated use of a four-note motif (G-F-A-D) and is a driving non-stop articulated melody. The second movement, Lullabye (Andante), opens and closes with the flute playing a brief cadenza, floating above an ambiguous chord in the strings. The bulk of the movement is a dovetailed hypnotic ostinato in the strings with a gentle rocking motion, and the simple flute melody above. The third movement, Wild Dreams (Presto), should be exactly that, wild and raucous, with heavy aggressive accents as indicated.For additional notes, see p. 2 of the PDF.The Youtube link above (Watch) is a recording I made at home in 2020 with my computer playing the string parts. This is the first movement, the second and third follow. It is my sincere hope that this piece will bring joy and exuberance for both the performers and the audience.
