We Can Work It Out is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, written by Paul McCartneyand John Lennon. It was first issued as a double A-side single with Day Tripper in December 1965. It also appeared on the 1966 US release Yesterday and Today. The release marked the first time in Britain that both tracks on an artist's single were promoted as joint A-sides.The song was recorded during the sessions for the band's Rubber Soul album. The single was number 1 in Britain (where it won the Ivor Novello Award for the top-selling A-side of 1965), the United States, Australia, Canada and Ireland. In the UK, it was the seventh highest selling single of the 1960s. We Can Work It Out is a comparatively rare example of a Lennon–McCartney collaboration from this period in the Beatles' career, in that it recalls the level of collaboration the two songwriters had shared when writing the group's hit singles of 1963. This song, A Day in the Life, Baby, You're a Rich Man and I've Got a Feeling, are among the notable exceptions. McCartney had been staying on Long Island when the category-three storm Hurricane Bob that made landfall had hit in August 1991. This made McCartney sit with an acoustic guitar and write what he describes as a gentle love song that becomes a 1960s protest song. The song was co-produced by George Martin and McCartney, being started, finished, and mixed within a single session on 3 September 1992 in Sussex, England. It is the earliest recording on Flaming Pie.Around the time of the release of the album, McCartney's Wife of nearly 30 years, Linda, was suffering from breast cancer and sadly passed away 7 months later. The music video also portrays this with shots of the two of them together in her last days. Put simply, the song, lyrics, melody are for her and trying to tell the story of how the two of them were destined to love each other forever.

The song, written in response to John Lennon and music critics accusing McCartney of predominantly writing silly love songs and sentimental slush, also features disco overtones.The song was McCartney's 27th number one as a songwriter; the all-time record for the most number one hits achieved by a songwriter.With this song, McCartney became the first person to have a year-end No. 1 song as a member of two distinct acts. But over the years people have said, Aw, he sings love songs, he writes love songs, he's so soppy at times. I thought, Well, I know what they mean, but, people have been doing love songs forever. I like 'em, other people like 'em, and there's a lot of people I love -- I'm lucky enough to have that in my life. So the idea was that you may call them silly, but what's wrong with that? The song was, in a way, to answer people who just accuse me of being soppy. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Despite the song’s appearance relatively late in the Beatles’ discography, it was one of the first songs that Paul McCartney wrote, at the age of 16. When the song was finally recorded in 1966, Paul McCartney felt it was too slow and turgid. George Martin simply solved the problem by speeding up the tape and raising the pitch by one semitone. This version of When I’m Sixty-Four is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Cor Anglais.
