On the Brink is a 10-minute long work for jazz trio combined with string quartet. It features continuous form, slow and organic development, engaging counterpoint, and advanced, dissonant harmonies. The piece contains two main themes-the A theme evokes despair and wondering; the B theme, longing and tension. The two themes are introduced towards the beginning, and they are used throughout the whole piece in various angles and representations. There is an open solo section for whomever desires to improvise. The piece climaxes with the B theme represented by piercing unison lines, and accented by striking low notes from the piano and acoustic bass.The full instrumentation is as follows: Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Piano, Acoustic Bass, Drum Set.The PDF contains the full score as well as each of the individual parts.

A short solo section sets up a continuation of the quartet restatement of the melody with all sections jumping in to play supportive roles. The primary solo section breaks down to an expanded quartet ensemble solo not designed for the faint of heart.
