String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.1022594 Composed by Craig Michael Davis. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 11 pages. Jack Harrison Inc. #50957. Published by Jack Harrison Inc. (A0.1022594). 'Re-Creation' Program Notes What is time, and where did it come from? These two questions consumed my thought process while writing Re-Creation. Upon completing the piece, I was no closer to answering those questions, but what I could answer became clear: could I write a piece in which time ceases to exist? In order to do this, I decided early on to throw out conventional notation that tends to restrict most performers. As my thought process evolved, I began contemplating the idea of juxtaposing the continuum of timelessness against the traditional view of time. Not only did this free me from the confines of a specific time, it opened up the entire spectrum of time, creating the possibility of infinity and the eternal existence of the continuity of time that invariably existed from the earliest sketches of this piece. The early sketches of this piece were written in my coastal Californian studio during the summer months of 2014, and because of this, Re-Creation represents not only a freedom of time, but also a sound world unique to California’s breathtaking coast. However, the impetus for this piece was the opening chapters of the book of Genesis, portraying the creation of the world in seven days. In this respect, the usage of three and seven play and important roll in the overall structure of this piece. Re-Creation was also inspired by a vacation I had taken a year before where I drove up the coast, stopping in small towns periodically, to collect poems from local authors. One collection of poems from Jeanie Greensfelder entitled, Biting the Apple, caught my attention. Reading through the poems, I began to realize that each poem was unique in that it marked a special time and place in the authors life, ultimately providing the reader with an autobiographical time capsule. The arch of the author’s life was thus on display for the world to read inevitably transforming her life, rather than her work, into the work of art. My hope for The Creation is that it portrays a snapshot of the Californian coast in which it was written, so that it can have a life of it’s own, free from the confines of it’s author and any concert hall it is performed in.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.922634 Composed by Johann Strauss Jr. Arranged by Aaron Meier. Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 1 pages. Aaron Meier #5792359. Published by Aaron Meier (A0.922634). Original by Johann Strauss II Reduction to String Orchestra by Aaron Meier Part: Violin I True to the original work by Strauss, this reduction for string orchestra features the ornaments and mystical writing that defines Strauss' polkas. There are optional percussion parts to be added at the discretion of the ensemble, however even without percussion the ensemble will sound full (the percussion acts as an ornament). Difficulty: Intermediate-advanced - advanced (best-suited for advanced student ensembles) --- Performance Notes: • Approximate length: 3:30 minutes • 1st Violins: In m. 1, trill a half step from a D♠to a D♮ • 2nd Violins:  - At m. 42, divide players by 3, with 2 players playing line A and the remaining player playing line B  - At m. 72-75, emphasize the E♠in the div. • Snare Drum: The buzz roll needs to be quieter than how it is played in the midi recording (*see YouTube link ↓) History: The Olga-Polka itself owed its creation to a Russian royal wedding which took place in St. Petersburg on 28 August 1857. On that day, amid accompanying splendour, the music-loving Grand Duke Michail Nikolaievich (1832-1909), youngest brother of Tsar Alexander II, married Princess Caecilie of Baden (1839-91), daughter of Archduke Leopold of Baden. Johann Strauss, who at that time was giving a summer season of concerts in nearby Pavlovsk, used the opportunity occasioned by the event to enhance his already enviable popularity with the Russian royal family and composed the Caecilien-Polka in honour of the lovely young bride. Indeed, it is clear from a letter which Johann wrote in late July 1857 to Carl Haslinger, his publisher in Vienna, that the new polka had been prepared well in advance of the wedding (the fair copy of the full orchestral score made for the publisher's engraver is dated 9 August) and was enjoying success even before the royal couple's official engagement on 16August 1857. Sometime after performing the Caecilien-Polka in Pavlovsk, Johann despatched the work to the Austrian capital where his brother Josef conducted its Viennese première, together with that of Johann's waltz Telegraphische Depeschen (op. 195, Volume 28), at his own benefit concert in the Volksgartenon Sunday 18 October 1857. The Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (16.10.1857) remarked that both works have caused a sensation in St. Petersburg and are truly genial Viennese sounds full of verve and melody. Since tradition demanded that the German Princess Caecilie adopt a Russian name - Olga Feodorovna - before her marriage, so Johann's Caecilien-Polka also underwent a change of identity. On 8 December 1857 Carl Haslinger announced the publication of Strauss's Olga-Polka, on the title page of which is the inscription: Dedicated to her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Olga, née Princess of Baden. It was under this title, too, that Johann himself first conducted the work in Vienna at a concert in the Volksgarten on 1 November 1857, shortly after his return from Russia. Reporting on this event, the Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (3.11.1857) observed: The 'Olga-Polka' is a most delightful, fragrant musical bouquet, full of fine, gracious rhythms. [excerpted from NAXOS Records] Kemp, Peter. Program Notes - About this Recording. NAXOS, 1993, www.naxos.com/mainsite/blurbs_reviews.asp?item_code=8.223232&catNum=223232&filetype=About%20.......... String orchestra - Grade 2 - Digital Download SKU: IZ.OMW144 Composed by Marcia Stockton. Score and Parts. 21 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #OMW144. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.OMW144). 9 x 12 in inches.Harvest Dance was originally written in 1995 as a piece for small orchestra (strings plus woodwinds and french horns). It is a dance of unbridled joy to celebrate a rich harvest of nature's bounty. In 2013, I transcribed it from my private archive of old dusty audio tapes no one had ever heard, and with the CarsonValley Sinfonia in mind, revised it for string orchestra without winds.1995 was a low period in my life. The pressure from my job in the technology industry was relentless, and personal relationships at that time sometimes brought emotional pain instead of solace and comfort. Grasping for any ray of hope to illuminate the gloom, I turned back to my original love: music.Immersing myself deeply in the process of music creation, I rediscovered not only a talent for composition, but even more importantly tapped into the creative source of uplift, joy, and energy, the source of all gifts, that is available to every sincere person. During those years, composing music was a vital lifeline. Like the powerful beam of the rescuer's flashlight guiding you toward the daylight when you are emerging from a dark cave. Like a new baby being born. Now a great many years later, life now brimming with music and friends, and having put old sorrows far behind me, music from that time of troubles still fills me with the same joy as when I composed it, and I hope it uplifts you.Harvest Dance is dedicated to my friend, composer John O'Neill, with profound appreciation for his encouragement, as well as helping me learn the practicalities of arranging for a string orchestra.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.922638 Composed by Johann Strauss Jr. Arranged by Aaron Meier. Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 1 pages. Aaron Meier #5792369. Published by Aaron Meier (A0.922638). Original by Johann Strauss II Reduction to String Orchestra by Aaron Meier Part: Viola True to the original work by Strauss, this reduction for string orchestra features the ornaments and mystical writing that defines Strauss' polkas. String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942083 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 12 pages. Silver Sickle Publications #4897941. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.942083). If I Could I Would Chamber Concerto for StringsIn this experimental work for Strings every letter of the title is been represented by a block of music. The score is being performed by creating sentences based on the first two pages of the proportional score notation. The conductor determines the entrances and fade outs of the instruments as well the repetition of blocks of music. Dynamics are provided for specific movements and different other sentences could be also created. Could I? Would I? If I Would? Etc… Duration: approx. 7-10 minutes Apostolos Paraskevas is a classical guitarist and composer as well as an award-winning film director and producer. He has received multiple international awards for his compositions and was nominated for a Grammy Award. He is the only guitarist ever to have a major orchestral piece performed at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Lukas Foss––and the only musician who has performed there in a Grim Reaper outfit. He was the founder and served for 16 years as the artistic director of the International Guitar Congress-Festival of Corfu, Greece. He is a voting member of the Recording Academy (Grammy's). After his undergraduate music studies in Volos he pursued advanced studies in classical guitar with Costas Cotsiolis (diploma, 1990) and Leo Brouwer (Havana 1984, 1988), as well as postgraduate studies in composition with Lukas Foss and Theodore Antoniou (DMA in composition, Boston University, 1998). Paraskevas embarked on a successful career as a guitar soloist and contemporary composer, achieving distinctions in both disciplines: Grammy nomination for Chase Dance (Bridge Records, 1999); first prize for Night Wanderings (Lukas Foss Composition Competition, 2000); first prize for Phygein Adynaton (National Composers Conference, 1997); and numerous prestigious commissions, performances, and publications. Following teaching posts at Northeastern and Boston Universities, Paraskevas has taught since 2001 at the Berklee College of Music in Boston (professor of composition and classical guitar). His eclectic compositional style arises as an idiosyncratic integration of seemingly conflicting influences – from avant-garde approaches to harmonic structure, form, and timbre, to pop-folk modal and rhythmical concepts – amalgamated into a personal evocative musical language, characterized by rhythmic verve, melodic grace, dramatic (and sometimes unexpectedly humorous) gestures, and ritualistic or theatrical elements. The latter feature has also led Paraskevas to the creation of films, notably the acclaimed I Finally Did It (Gold award, California Film Awards 2010), dealing wittily with Death, a recurring extra-musical theme in his music. String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533709 Composed by Carson Cooman. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 71 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3041103. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533709). I. Chaconne: ...a continuum of dreams...II. CadenzaIII. ToccataConcerto for Bass Saxophone and Strings (1999) was commissioned by basssaxophonist Andreas van Zoelen (with generous support from the Broeker Fund forNew Music) and is dedicated with appreciation and admiration to him. Van Zoelen iscommitted to enhancing the very small existing bass saxophone repertoire throughsupporting the creation and performance of new works. The subtitle of the firstmovement (...a continuum of dreams...) could be seen as a sort of subtitle for theentire work that sets the mood and provides unification for the entire piece. The firstmovement is a slow and ethereal chaconne. The strings and the saxophone interact invarious ways throughout this movement in non-traditional form. There are actuallytwo ground bass themes; one is introduced at the beginning with pizzicato stringsbut soon moves to the background (although it is almost always present). The secondis presented near the end of the work and eventually the two are combined. Theinterval of an augmented fourth (tritone) has special use throughout the movementas a variety of themes and motifs are transformed throughout. The second movementis a cadenza for the unaccompanied saxophone. The third movement is a fast andwild toccata. The saxophone plays almost without rest for the entire movement. Amiddle section recalls the theme of augmented fourths from the first movement.Heavy use is made of pizzicato strings. The saxophone part for this movement ishighly virtuosic, exploring the full possibilities and range of the instrument. This is the score and solo part only. The parts are on rental from the publisher.
