His pedagogically motivated compositions, such as 6 Morceaux op. 20, as well as the 12 morceaux faciles pour violoncelle op. 4, are still popular today. The editor Beverley Ellis has selected movements 7-12 from opus 4 for this edition, which are graded as medium difficulty. Technical tips and suggestions for the development and interpretation of the pieces are included with this edition. The first 6 movements from op. 4, which are much easier and can be played in the first years of cello lessons, are also available in the Schott Student Edition (SE 1024). His father, a composer also named Josef Foerster, taught at the Conservatory. (His father's students included Franz Lehár.) His brother was artist Viktor Foerster. Josef was educated accordingly, and duly studied there.-Style-Foerster produced numerous compositions. His music is not nationalistic in the sense of employing the idioms of Czech folk music. Published by Paladino Editions (A0.1281512). Looking at David Popper’s Walzer-Suite, Op. 60, from the perspective of its surrounding opus numbers, it dates most probably from the late 1880s. As with so many others of his pieces, this suite was mainly written for his own performances. At the time of its composition Popper was still married to Sophie Menter and at the peak of his solo career. Besides the obvious similarities to the works of the Strauß dynasty, the musical language of Richard Strauss can already be found in Popper’s Waltz Suite. Like Josef Merk’s Valses Brillantes, Op. 6, the work is a series of waltzes framed by an introduction and a virtuoso finale which are linked by a mutual theme. This newly typeset edition provides two cello parts: one with Popper's original markings, and one with performance suggestions by Martin Rummel.
