Sinfonietta (alternate title SinfonÃa de Vino y Aceite de Magallon) is a composition for concert band that can be played by any band whether it has 100 players or 30 players. It is at grade 3 level of difficulty and has several substitute parts for ensembles that may not have complete instrumentation. Although the scoring includes piccolo, oboes, bassoons, and French horns, these instruments are not needed to command a good performance.Sinfonietta adheres to classical forms of symphonies by composers such as Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. The forms are very clear so the players of the band can learn this important history. The first movement is in standard Sonata Allegro form.The second movement is in A B A form and features a solo trumpet. The third movementis in a Rondo form (A B A C A) with three distinct themes. The work was commissioned in 2017 by the town of Magallón, Spain in celebration of the town’s industries of wine and olive oil. The mayor of the town of 1,000 inhabitants, Victor Manuel Chueca Rodriguez, was specific in his request for a composition at grade 3 level of difficulty. He also suggested the title as Symphony. Since it a three-movement composition instead of a four-movement composition (the normal Minuet and Trio movement is not included in this piece), the title of Sinfonietta instead of Symphony is used.Gregory Fritzeis a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer and conductor. His compositions have been performed more than one thousand times in over twenty-six countries. He has written over ninety compositionsfor orchestra, band, chamber ensemblesand soloists. He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally, including First Prize in the 1st WASBE (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) International Composition Contest2017, First Prize Winner of Reneé Fisher Composition Prize, First Prize Winner in Concurso Bienal de Composición de Musica para Banda, Ciudad de Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), Menzione d'Onore (highest award given) of the Mario Bernardo Angelo-Comneno International Music Competition by the Accademia Angelica Costantiniana Arti E Scienze (Italy), First Prize in the TUBA International Etude Composition Competition, the IBLA Grand Prize (Italy), 2nd Prize in the 2nd WASBE International Composition Contest 2019, several awards from The American Prize, annual composition awards from Standard Awards Panel of American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers and many others. He has been commissioned by The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, The Army Band Pershing’s Own of Washington, DC, The Banda Municipal of Bilbao, The Primativa de Lliria, and others. His compositions include works published by several publishers in the United States, South America and Europe and have been performed extensively throughout the world. He has thirty-three compositions commercially recorded on Albany Records, MSR Classics, Crystal Records, Mark Records and others. He has been a guest lecturer, conductor and performer at many colleges, universities and music festivals in the United States, Canada, Japan, South America and Europe. He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1954 and has Composition degrees from the Boston Conservatory and Indiana University. He now resides in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida.

The march Zauber der Montur (Magic of the Uniform) was not part of the operetts in exactly that form as it appeared as single issue. The composer formed it out of a duet and a further melody of his operetta. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2019 in the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. Whether we are journeying to the mountains or driving to work, mother nature is always on display. Therefore, I believe mother nature symbolizes pleasure, pain, and despair. Having the opportunity to grow up in New England and now living in Maine, I have seen a WIDE variety of weather within just a period of 24 hours! While living on the West Coast I will never forget my drive on the 395 going north and seeing the Sierra Nevada mountains (to my left) tall and grand with snow covered mountain tops! To the right, you would see and feel the hot desert! Although the performers do not need to envision mountaintops or deserts you need to respect the different sections and moods of the piece and know that everything is changing around us, all the time. As musical artists, we can convey our life journeys through our individual sound as well as the ensemble; whether it’s through enjoying nature, life’s challenges, and celebrations! Enjoy making traditional sounds and nontraditional sounds with your instrument.

Brahms composed the Alto Rhapsody, properly known as Rhapsody for Alto, Male Chorus, and Orchestra, opus 53 in 1869. It was first performed in Jena on March 3, 1870. The text is based on Harzreise im Winter (Winter Journey in the Harz Mountains), a poem by well-known German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832). The Alto Rhapsody, like many of Brahms’ works, has loneliness and alienation as its central themes. Brahms’ devotion to Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann’s widow, is well-known (the letters between her and Brahms fill two volumes). What is less well-known is that he was undoubtedly very fond of Julie Schumann, Clara’s daughter.In 1869, Brahms spent the summer near the Schumann’s residence and was in daily contact with Julie and Clara completing, among other works, the Liebeslieder (Love Song) Waltzes. In early July, Julie announced her engagement. Of course, I told Johannes first of all, Clara noted in her diary on the 11th. Soon after, the conductor Hermann Levi told her that Brahms had been devotedly attached to her daughter. By July 16th, Clara noted in her diary that Brahms speaks only in monosyllables . . . [and] treats Julie in the same manner, although he used to be so especially nice to her. Did he love her? Julie was married on September 22. Later on that very wedding day, Brahms called on Clara, who wrote in her diary, Johannes brought me a very wonderful piece . . . the words from Goethe’s Harzreise. . . He called it his bridal song. This piece seems to me neither more nor less than the expression of his own heart’s anguish. If only he would for once speak so tenderly! This piece is of course the dark and emotional Alto Rhapsody. Goethe’s poem Harzreise im Winter poetically describes the kind of life God intends for different temperaments. The three stanzas set by Brahms concern the fate of a man in fruitless struggle against the bonds of misery. A young man, turned misanthropic by sorrow, seeks solitude in the wilderness. The piece is in the baroque cantata style, with an opening recitative, and aria, and a concluding chorale. The alto describes the desolate winter landscape and in the final chorale joins the male chorus in a prayer for a melody that can bring comfort to the thirsting soul (indeed the plea restore his heart is repeated three times at the end, as a kind of Amen). In the Alto Rhapsody it is not hard to find evidence for Brahms’ statement that I speak through my music. It's called 'Setting the Watch' and is inspierd by the Ripon Hornblower with the tradition going back over a thousand years to Saxon times when Viking raids were common occurrences and people lived in fear of their property, livestock and even lives being lost in night-time attacks. In 886, the English King was Alfred the Great and he made it his mission to visit his people bringing a message of safety and stability. In Ripon he granted the people a Royal Charter and gave them a symbolic horn as a gift, advising them that they should be always alert to the dangers of invaders. The people of Ripon decided to employ a night watchman that they called a “wakemen†to patrol from dusk until dawn ready to sound the horn gifted by the King should he spot any trouble approaching. For further reassurance, the wakeman sounded the horn at each of the four corners of the market place at 9pm every night to let the people know that he was on duty and they could sleep easily. This sounding of the horn at 9pm became known as setting the watch.

It was released as the album's second single on 28 June 1985 through Vertigo Records. The song features a guest appearance by Sting who sings the signature falsetto introduction, background vocals and a backing chorus of I want my MTV. The groundbreaking video was the first to be aired on MTV Europe when the network launched on 1 August 1987. It was Dire Straits' most commercially successful single, peaking at number 1 for three weeks on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and Top Rock Tracks chart and number 4 in the band's native UK. In July 1985, the month following its release, Dire Straits and Sting performed the song at Live Aid. I made this chart back in the 1980's when I was studying orchestration & Arranging under the late and great Lt. Col. Trevor Sharpe. The soundtrack was the fourth of the series to be composed by John Barry. He tried to incorporate the elegance of the Oriental sound with Japanese music-inspired tracks. The theme song, You Only Live Twice, was composed by Barry and lyricist Leslie Bricusse, and sung by Nancy Sinatra after her father Frank Sinatra passed on the opportunity. Nancy Sinatra was reported to be very nervous while recording – first she wanted to leave the studio; then she claimed to sometimes sound like Minnie Mouse.[36] Barry declared that the final song uses 25 different takes. There are two versions of the song You Only Live Twice, sung by Nancy Sinatra, one directly from the movie soundtrack, and a second one for record release arranged by Billy Strange.[citation needed] The movie soundtrack song is widely recognised for its striking opening bars and oriental flavour, and was far more popular on radio. The record release reached No. 44 on the Billboard charts in the US, and No. 11 in the UK. Both versions of the title song are available on CD. A different title song was originally recorded by Julie Rogers, but eventually discarded. Only two lines from that version were kept in the final lyrics, and the orchestral part was changed to fit Sinatra's vocal range. Rogers' version only appeared in a James Bond 30th Anniversary CD, with no singer credit. In the 1990s, an alternative example of a possible theme song (also called You Only Live Twice and sung by Lorraine Chandler) was discovered in the vaults of RCA Records. It became a very popular track with followers of the Northern soul scene (Chandler was well known for her high-quality soul output on RCA) and can be found on several RCA soul compilations.

Written around 1820 by Italian composer Saverio Raffaele Mercadante, this engraving of his CONCERTO FOR HORN is in the original key and has been meticulously edited. Consisting of two sections, the beautiful, plaintive opening slow section (Larghetto alla Siciliano) is about 2.5 minutes in length and works well as a stand-alone feature to showcase the sonority of the horn. It would be perfect for a talented high school player. The concluding fast section (Allegretto brillante) is bubbly, delightful, and quite technically challenging in a few spots. The concert band / wind ensemble accompaniment (available separately) is scored to prevent overpowering the soloist and will work with smaller groups for senior recitals, etc. NOTE: This download is for the 4-page SOLO PART ONLY. If you wish to purchase the band parts and full score, please visit www.bandroom.com. This SOLO PART will also work with the Kuyper setting for piano accompaniment. The score and parts are error-free, as I spent considerable time in editing and making corrections to the parts while it was prepared for performance.
