Published by M. Randall McDonald (A0.1006525). This is a transcription for band of the fifth Pomp and Circumstance March by Edward Elgar, in its entirety. Although unknown except through a few orchestra recordings, it is an example of Elgar at his finest. It was complete in 1930, about 25 years after Elgar completed the rest of his Opus 39. Pitched in the original key of Ab /C, the march is very playable at the intermediate level. There is some very interesting contrapuntal work, especially in the trio sections.

Houdini is a song by English-Albanian singer Dua Lipa. It was released on 10 November 2023 as the lead single from Lipa's upcoming third studio album. The single debuted at number one in Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia and Greece, number two on the UK Singles Chart and in the top ten in Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Russia and Switzerland. This piece was originally titled Istn’t it Enough, drawing inspiration from the famous passage from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I changed the wording slightly to be more encompassing of different modes of perception (thought is a broader concept than sight and the word think created better melodic material than the word see, using the method described below) I provided an alternate title to more clearly convey the meaning behind the piece. That is; that the only church that I will ever need is the one I find in musical expression and in the beauty of the natural world. Though Adams’ meaning was meant to convey the primary reasoning for his atheism-a reason that I use as well-I also see it as an admonishment of our need for constant stimulation. Adams felt-and I feel-that people need to take the time to slow down and enjoy life: we need to enjoy the beauty of the garden (both literally and metaphorically). That, quite simply, is what this piece is (or at least what it is to me). Among the compositional techniques that I used in this piece is one that I have been using quite a lot. I call it crypto-serialism. The basic concept is that I will take a piece of text (the Douglas Adams quote, in this case) and convert each letter to a number between 0 and 11 and then convert those numbers to musical pitches, where 0 = C, 1 = C#, etc. The technique offers me a way to draw actual musical ideas from the text itself, which I see as a means of creating a deeper connection to the text. The piece is dedicated to the Four Horsemen of the Non-Apocolypse: Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, and Daniel Dennett.

This piece gives them the opportunity to play a fun piece with a band, with any number of their peers (strength in numbers!).The Wind Band is scored with multiple cues to enable performance from non standard instrumentation, plus additional parts for example in Eb and treble clef to cater for Tenor Horn, Baritone and Trombone etc. Parts are also designed to scale dynamically (play if directed comments) to balance the size of the solo group.The PDF is in A4 portrait (44 pages) and contains a full score and parts. The lyrics were written in collaboration with Lori Lieberman after she was inspired by a Don McLean performance in late 1971. Denied writing credit by Fox and Gimbel, Lieberman released her version of the song in 1972, but it did not chart. In 1973, it became a number-one hit in the United States, Australia and Canada for Roberta Flack, and also reached number six on the UK Singles Chart. In 1996, Fugees recorded the song with Lauryn Hill on lead vocals. Their version became a number-one hit in twenty countries and since then, the song has often been performed by Flack and Fugees together on stage. This version for concert band features cor anglais on the opening melody but plenty of opportunities for expressive playing throughout the band.
