The piece has approximately 2 minutes and 33 seconds of duration, being in a comfortable time for those performing it, so that there is no difference between this version and the composer's original.The Four Seasons, Italian Le quattro stagioni, group of four violin concerti by Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, each of which gives a musical expression to a season of the year. Unusually for the time, Vivaldi published the concerti with accompanying poems (possibly written by Vivaldi himself) that elucidated what it was about those seasons that his music was intended to evoke. The Carnival of the Animals (Le carnaval des animaux) is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The work was written for private performance by an ad hoc ensemble of two pianos and other instruments, and lasts around 25 minutes.This is my arrangement for wind quintet of mvt 2 Poules et Coqs (hens and Roosters, or cocks and hens)The original version has Strings without cello and double bass, two pianos, with clarinet: this movement is centered around a pecking theme played in the pianos and strings, which is quite reminiscent of chickens pecking at grain. This arrangement of the Allegro movement from Henry Purcell's Sonata for Trumpet would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. This selection is one of the arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library, many of which are being made available for the first time. They have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions. The original composition was written in D Major but Regis Bookshar has transposed it to Bb Major, making it a little easier for many modern musicians. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (8 pages). The 17th century composer, Henry Purcell, is generally considered to be one of the greatest English composers of his generation. His Sonata for Trumpet and Strings in D Major, composed in 1694, was probably written for the London Theatre, where a fine tradition of trumpet playing had developed. Purcell almost certainly had in mind either John Shore or his brother, William, the most renowned trumpet players in England at the time. The trumpets of the time were normally tuned in D and there were no valves on the Baroque trumpets, so they were limited in the number of notes that they could play. The term Sonata here probably means no more than a piece of incidental music and looks forward to the style that would become the solo concerto where soloist and strings are pitted against each other but also looks back to an older type of instrumental music which emphasized equality between members of the ensemble. The music is in three movements and looks forward to the fast-slow-fast plan popularized by Vivaldi's concertos. Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists, besides trumpet players, could also have the opportunity to play the Allegro movement from Purcell's Sonata for Trumpet, so he has created other arrangements of this selection. This particular arrangement is for a Woodwind Quintet, consisting of 1 Flute, 1 Oboe, 1 Clarinet, 1 French Horn and 1 Bassoon, and features the Clarinet on the melody, but there are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this piece. You may find something else that may suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a wide variety of styles also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check back periodically because new arrangements are added as often as possible. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Purcell's Allegro from his Sonata for Trumpet will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

The Divertimento, originally for an orchestra (flute, oboe, bassoon, 4 horns and strings) was completed in June 1772 in Salzburg. It was probably written for an outdoor performance and Mozart certainly made full use of the opportunity to display his remarkable talents both to his prospective patrons and his talented fellow musicians who would have performed this extensive six movement piece.There are six movements, Allegro, a substantial sonata form piece; Adagio, a sophisticated piece written for strings only; a gem of a Menuetto with three trios; Allegretto; a Menuetto with 2 trios and a final Adagio - Allegro molto - Allegro assai forms the grand finale. The scale and sophistication of this piece is far beyond that of the early symphonies which Mozart composed around the same time.The arrangement is suitable for advanced and advanced intermediate players.In editing and arranging the Divertimento for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn it has been necessary to add phrase marks (shown in dashed lines) and extra staccato dots - not indicated. The lack of dynamic markings especially in the latter movements has been remedied in parentheses ( ). Some octave transpositions both up and down have been necessary and the glory of the four horn sections of the original have been re-scored as sympathetically as I am able.I do hope that quintet players will enjoy this arrangement of a very remarkable piece.

The optimal instrumentation is, of course; Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and Horn. But, additional parts have been added so that a second clarinet can cover the oboe part or a second oboe can cover the clarinet part (I actually had that problem once-two great oboe players (or a flute?) and no clarinet available to cover the part), Bass Clarinet covering Bassoon and a Bb Horn part in case the student only reads that part on the horn or is covered with flugelhorn/baritone or another Bb instrument. The quintets were always performed one per part and the students enjoyed playing this arrangement from 6th grade through high school!

It was originally scored for: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, cymbals, bass drum, snare drum, and strings. However, it is often performed today by a standard Military Band, consisting of woodwind, brass, and percussion sections. An abbreviated version of Liberty Bell was used as the theme tune for the British television comedy sketch show, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which ran from 1969 to 1974.This arrangement for Wind Quintet consists of the whole March with its Trio section. The dynamic shaping is based on that used by The President’s Own Band, but the dynamic markings are largely editorial.

Originally written for an octet of 3 wind: clt, Hn & Bsn, and 5 strings: 2 Vlns, viola, cello and bass, this is a tricky piece to arrange for a standard wind octet. I have left the three original wind parts mostly unchanged, with some additional notes as required. I have simplified the string parts in places, making them more playable by the wind player: I have not simply allocated the 5 string parts to the 5 wind players. The second horn part is used for the low sustained notes originally played by the double bass. I have had to utilize notes not in the horns harmonic series, unlike horn 1.

The Carnival of the Animals (Le carnaval des animaux) is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The work was written for private performance by an ad hoc ensemble of two pianos and other instruments, and lasts around 25 minutes.This is mvt IV arranged wind quintet.The original version is a satirical movement which opens with a piano playing a pulsing triplet figure in the higher register. The strings play a slow rendition of the famous Galop infernal (commonly called the Can-can) from Offenbach's operetta Orphée aux enfers (Orpheus in the Underworld).I have given the tune to the horn, with the triplet figures in the other winds.
