Soprano wind orchestra/wind ensemble - Medium/Intermediate - Set of Parts - Digital Download
Composed by Gabriel Faure (1845-1924). Arranged by Marcelo Jardim. Impressionistic, Christian, Sacred.and#65279;
Fauré composed his Requiem in D minor Op 48, between 1887 and 1890. The choral-orchestral setting of the shortened Catholic Mass for the Dead in Latin is the best-known of his large works. In the Pie Jesu, the solo soprano (or treble) sings the prayer to the "good Jesus" for everlasting rest. The one line of text is repeated three times, the first two times asking for "requiem" (rest), then intensified for "sempiternam requiem" (everlasting rest). The first call is a modal melody in B-flat majorof six measures, the second call is similar but reaching up higher.

Flute,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549725 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Contemporary,Multicultural,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 22 pages. Jmsgu3 #3531379. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549725). Duration: ca. 7:00, Score: 12 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano: 7 pages. An epic choice for a recital or funeral. Fauré Background: In the first place, Gabriel Fauré 1845 –1924) was a famous French composer, musician, and educator. Furthermore, his musical ideas influenced numerous 20th-century composers. Therefore, historians regard him as one of the leading French composers of his time. Famous Works: Among his most famous compositions, by and large, are the Pavane, Elegie (op. 24), Requiem, Sicilienne, Nocturnes for piano and the songs Après un rêve and Clair de lune. Inasmuch as his early works are well-known and relatively easy to perform, Faure’s music seems to have become gradually more difficult during his later life. In other words, his later works are somewhat esoteric and complex. Early Home Life: Fauré was in fact born into a well-cultivated family. His aptitude for music became particularly clear early on - when he was still a boy. Under these circumstances, his parents sent him to a music institution in Paris. Consequently, the training he received there prepared him for a career as a church organist and choirmaster. Middle Life: It is important to realize that Fauré studied music composition with the French musical mastermind Camille Saint-Saëns, who became his lifelong friend. Fauré eventually graduated from college and earned a living as an organist and educator. During this period, he had, on the whole, little time to compose. He consequently became more successful in his middle age, becoming organist of the Église de la Madeleine and director of the Paris Conservatoire. However, he still needed time on balance for composing. Therefore, given these points, he withdrew to the countryside during the summer to focus on composing. Later Life: Fauré was, in the final analysis, recognized in France as the foremost French composer of his time. The French government held a national musical tribute particularly for him in Paris. The French President notably headed the ceremony. Elsewhere, on the contrary, Fauré's music was slow to become accepted, except of course, in England. Legacy: Historians often describe Fauré's music in general as a transition between the end of Romanticism and the beginning of modernism. As an illustration, when Fauré was born, Chopin was still composing. However, by the time of Fauré's death, jazz and atonal music, in particular, had come to fruition. Fauré, by all means, suffered from increasing deafness in his later years. Some musicologists believe this to be indeed the cause of the esoteric nature of Faure’s final works.

Jmsgu3 #3531323. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549721). Duration: ca. 7:00, Score: 18 pages, violin: 3 pages, cello: 3 pages, piano: 7 pages. An epic choice for a recital or funeral.Fauré Background: In the first place, Gabriel Fauré 1845 –1924) was a famous French composer, musician, and educator. French Horn,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.551616 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by James Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #5324393. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.551616). Gabriel Fauré: Nocturne, Op. 104, Molto moderatoNocturne is a musical composition inspired by or evocative of the night. The Irish composer John Field first used the term in the early 19th century to describe a type of character piece for piano intended to be played in the evening or at night. The term was later adopted by other composers, including Chopin and Fauré, who used it to describe their compositions. In the case of Fauré's Nocturne Op. 104, the title nocturne refers to the fact that it is a piece of music intended to be played at night or evocative of the night. The piece is characterized by its modal, incantatory theme, which seems to hark back to the plainchant that Fauré studied at the Niedermeyer School. Like other nocturnes in the set, it explores one predominant mood.Fauré's Nocturne Op. 104 and Chopin's nocturnes share some similarities, but they also have some differences. Fauré greatly admired the music of Chopin and was happy to compose in forms and patterns established by the earlier composer. Fauré's early nocturnes employ the same basic textures as Chopin's nocturnes, but Fauré's later works abandon this in favor of increasingly contrapuntal writing. Fauré also adopted ternary form as an essential form for the piece from Chopin. However, Fauré's melodies often show a rigorous motivic construction not found in Chopin. Fauré's nocturnes are, after Chopin's, among the most beautiful and beloved in music literature. In summary, while Fauré's nocturnes were influenced by Chopin's, they also have unique qualities that set them apart.

Significant Aspects of Faure's Sicilienne Gabriel Fauré's Sicilienne, Op. 78 is significant due to its history, influence, and musical characteristics. Historical Significance The piece was initially composed in 1893 as part of incidental music for a theatrical production that was later abandoned. Fauré reused the Sicilienne in 1898 when he wrote incidental music for the English translation of Maeterlinck's play Pelléas et Mélisande. This piece was later extracted and formed into an orchestral suite for concerts, known as the Pelléas et Mélisande Suite, Op. 80. Influence and Popularity Fauré's harmonic richness and melodic innovations in the Sicilienne influenced other composers. The Sicilienne is the most famous piece from the Pelléas et Mélisande Suite and is frequently played by significant orchestras today. Musical Characteristics The piece is known for its conversational style for both cello and piano, and it exhibits chromatic movement to evoke a Renaissance aesthetic with the Sicilienne dance. It is also more complex than the typical song in terms of chords and melody, with above-average scores in chord and melodic complexity. In conclusion, Faure's Sicilienne is significant due to its historical background, influence on other composers, and unique musical characteristics. Dance and Fabric The term Sicilienne is derived from the French word Sicilienne, which means Sicilian. It is associated with a dance called the Siciliana and a kind of rich poplin fabric. Musical Style Sicilienne refers to a musical style or genre often included as a movement within more significant pieces of music, starting in the Baroque period. It is associated with a pastoral mood and is often characterized by dotted rhythms that can distinguish it within the broader musical genre of the pastorale.

Arranged by Rob Bushnell. 19th Century,Classical,Religious,Romantic Period,Sacred. Brass Band. 79 pages. Rob Bushnell #1049258. Published by Rob Bushnell (A0.1471485). Composed between 1887 and 1890, Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem is not only one of his best-known works but one of the most popular piece of choral music in the Classical repertoire, coming 23rd in the Classic FM’s Hall of Fame 2024. Believed to be a tribute to his father (who died in 1885), Fauré himself said “My Requiem wasn't written for anything – for pleasure, if I may call it that!” It started life as a five-movement work but was later expanded to be the final seven-movement work we know today. The first version (which Fauré called “un petit Requiem”) was first performed on 16 January 1888, with Fauré conducting, a second version premiered on 21 January 1893 before the final version (reworked for full orchestra) was played on 12 July 1900; the Requiem was performed at the composer’s own funeral in 1924.The Libera Me, or Deliver Me, was actually written in 1877 and is the sixth part of the Requiem.Fauré once said of the work, “Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest. Upon interview, he also said, “It has been said that my Requiem does not express the fear of death and someone has called it a lullaby of death. But it is thus that I see death: as a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards happiness above, rather than as a painful experience. The music of Gounod has been criticised for its inclination towards human tenderness. But his nature predisposed him to feel this way: religious emotion took this form inside him. Is it not necessary to accept the artist's nature? As to my Requiem, perhaps I have also instinctively sought to escape from what is thought right and proper, after all the years of accompanying burial services on the organ! I know it all by heart. I wanted to write something different.”This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. A recording of the original composition can be found here on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXwFNoBHCf0.

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.550171). Pavane * павана * パヴァーム* Παβάνε * פ×ב×× ×” * Gabriel Fauré, Op. 50. Duration ca. 5:10Gabriel Fauré's Pavane Op. 50 is a short work originally composed for piano in 1887 but is better known in Fauré's version for orchestra and chorus. The piece is a pavane, a slow processional court dance that took hold in Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries and which the aristocracy used as a showcase for fancy ball gowns and ceremonial feasts. The piece's stately pace, which lends the melody its halting grace, has much to do with its frequently cited calming effect. Although Fauré described the report as carefully crafted but not otherwise important, it has become one of his most famous and commonly performed works. The Pavane is a typically frank and straightforward piece of music by Fauré, and it is around seven minutes long. The restrained use of harmony creates a delightful air of subtlety and simplicity. The piece has been reused by other composers, such as Ravel's Pavane pour une infante défunte. The Pavane Op. 50 speaks directly to the heart in its calm and collected manner. Fauré's Pavane has been used in popular culture in various ways. The piece's melody is well-known worldwide for its frequent use in films, advertising, and sporting events like the 1998 FIFA World Cup, which the BBC covered using the Pavane. The piece has also been used in popular music, with pop artists like Eric Clapton and Jon Lord using Pavan-inspired themes in songs and instrumental compositions. The Pavane Op. 50 has been featured in several films, including The Conformist (1970), The Great Beauty (2013), and The King's Speech (2010). The piece has also been used in television shows like The Crown (2016). The Pavane Op. 50 has been arranged for various instruments, including guitar, harp, and cello. The piece's haunting musical qualities that percolate directly from the orchestra through the chorus in a straight line of solemnity and reverence have made it a standard part of the concert repertoire.

The Romance was initially written for violin and piano but has also been transcribed for other instruments, such as the harp. Originally composed for solo violin and piano, it has been arranged for various musical forces, including violin, orchestra, and string quartet. Despite Fauré's modest assessment of the piece, it gained popularity and has been recorded by numerous artists, from Eugène Ysaÿe in 1912 to Yehudi Menuhin in the 1970s. The berceuse is not thematically related to the first movement of Fauré's Dolly Suite, which is also a berceuse. It is known for its charming and soothing melody and has become one of Fauré's best-known pieces.

RayThompsonMusic #4405172. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553784). The Dolly Suite, Op. 56, is a collection of pieces for piano four-hands by Gabriel Fauré. It consists of short pieces written or revised between 1893 and 1896, to mark the birthdays and other events in the life of the daughter of the composer's mistress.An orchestral version of the suite was scored in 1906 by Henri Rabaud, and has, like the original piano duet version, received several recordings. The best-known section of the suite, the Berceuse, has been arranged for several combinations of instruments. In Britain it became famous as the play-out tune to Listen with Mother.The suite, consisting of six short pieces, each with its own title: Berceuse, Mi-a-ou, Le jardin de Dolly, Kitty-valse, Tendresse and Le pas espagnol. The complete suite takes about fifteen minutes to perform.Mi-a-ouAllegro vivo. Mi-a-ou was written for Dolly's second birthday in June 1894. The title does not refer to a pet cat, as has often been supposed, but to Dolly's attempts to pronounce the name of her elder brother Raoul, who later became one of Fauré's favourite pupils.The young Dolly called her brother Messieu Aoul, which Fauré took as the original title for the piece. In his finished manuscript the title is shortened to Miaou (without hyphens).The Fauré scholar Robert Orledge writes that the title Mi-a-ou, like that of the Kitty-valse later in the suite, is the responsibility of Fauré's publisher, Julien Hamelle.[
