Small Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1515104 Composed by Connie Boss. Arranged by Connie Boss. Christian,Christmas. 106 pages. Connie Boss #1089606. Published by Connie Boss (A0.1515104). Everyone knows how special the star was for the birth of Jesus. The star guided many along the way to find the manger that Mary, Joseph and the newborn baby, Jesus were at. This cantata reflects the importance of the star during that time. Most of the songs have lyrics about the star. The cantata starts off with Mary finding out from the angel that God chose her to bear his son - Ave Maria was redone for this advent moment. It keeps to the melody and Ave Maria words are still part of the lyrics. Some of the lyrics have the English translation in the song, while other lyrics are new for this Christmas song. The next song O Little Town of Bethlehem is where Mary and Joseph have to travel to pay their taxes and where Jesus is born. This is where the star shines down for all to see. This is the traditional song, but I have added extra lyrics at the end of each original verse. Next, the shepherds seeing the star decide to travel to Bethlehem. Pachelbel Canon is so iconic, but I have added lyrics from While Shepherds watched their flocks by night, Away in a Manger, What Child is This and The First Noel. The choir parts bring rich harmonies to the piece. The Angels said leave your sheep and leave your lambs. Rise up Shepherd and Follow. Now we are at the manger. I composed the song - A Little Baby. He was born to save us all. . Still, Still, Still “Tis the Night of Our Savior’s Birth has added lyrics to each verse that ties in with the original lyrics. The title of this cantata is They Saw A Star - this is from the song I composed with the same title. It not only brings in the shepherds, but also the Three Wisemen. To close out this cantata, I have used the lyrics from We Three Kings and the melody of Scarborough Fair. This arrangement has an SA duet with SSAA choir parts with ahhs that sound very mysterious. It also does include parts for strings if you are lucky enough to have violins and a cello. The strings parts are the same as the choir parts, so it is perfectly fine to do this with just a choir. I hope you enjoy singing and listening to this cantata—Connie BossI didn't have a minimum copy, so you can make copies of this. This is why I have it priced at this price. For questions or requests, email Cdboss@cvalley.net.

Arranged by Raymond Fenech. Classical,Contest,Easter,Festival,Instructional,Multicultural,World. Brass Band. 37 pages. Raymond Fenech #517797. Published by Raymond Fenech (A0.911834). Josef Strauss (20 August 1827 – 22 July 1870) was an Austrian composer. He was born in Mariahilf (now Vienna), the son of Johann Strauss I and Maria Anna Streim, and brother of Johann Strauss II and Eduard Strauss. His father wanted him to choose a career in the Austrian Habsburg military. He studied music with Franz Dolleschal and learned to play the violin with Franz Anton Ries Even though Josef Strauss was a more serious (even depressed) member of the famous Strauss family of musicians, quite capable of writing music of darker character, he also had the talent to write cheery fluff. This polka is just that, and while it may not conjure up images of a jockey riding a horse, it will impart a playful sense of madcap hustle with the bustle of its colorful notes. Lasting but a mere two minutes, this delightful work will appeal to Strauss enthusiasts and lovers of light classics.

Duration: ca 5:20, Score: 8 pages, solo part: 3 pages, piano part: 4 pages. One of Beethoven's finest and most famous works. Program for a recital, church meditation or school program. Bring your best espressivo and plan to rehearse the many subtle dynamic changes.Sonata Pathétique Op. 13 First of all, this is an arrangement of the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique. It seems like Beethoven wrote this piece before becoming troubled by deafness. Published in 1799, it consequently remains one of the most celebrated pieces Beethoven ever wrote. As a result of its popularity, the movement was therefore performed by Karl Haas. Hass recorded it for a popular radio show called: Adventures in Good Music. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna for the rest of his life. In his late 20s, it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently, he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies, therefore, belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony, he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano.

Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano. www.jamesguthrie.com.

Jmsgu3 #3602675. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549885). Score: 12 pages, piano part: 6 pages, viola part: 4 pages. duration: ca. 5'. This is the famous wedding march from Op. 61 composed in 1842 and commonly performed as a recessional march at the end of a wedding. The piece was originally composed for orchestra then arranged for organ and performed by Mendelssohn himself. Mendelssohn: Wedding March Mendelssohn’s Wedding March is so popular that it’s difficult to imagine a wedding without it. It seems like it’s been around for eternity. In any case, it was only 150 years or so ago that the Wedding March came about. It was performed in Potsdam for the first time in 1842, as a piece of Mendelssohn’s music for the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was first used for a wedding in 1858 Mendelssohn Background Felix Mendelssohn (1809 –1847) was, by all means, a German mastermind composer, musician and orchestra conductor of the Romantic period. Consequently, Mendelssohn composed in the usual forms of the time - symphonies, concertos, oratorios, piano music, and chamber music. To summarize, his most famous works include his music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Italian Symphony, the Scottish Symphony, The Hebrides Overture, his later Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, and his Octet for Strings. His most well-known piano pieces, by and large, are the Songs Without Words. Artistic Standing Musical tastes change from time to time. Moreover, just such a change occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This plus rampant antisemitism brought a corresponding amount of undue criticism. Fortunately, however, his artistic inventiveness has indeed been critically re-evaluated. As a result, Mendelssohn is once again among the most prevalent composers of the Romantic era. Early Family Life Mendelssohn was, in fact, born into a prominent Jewish family. His grandfather was, notably, the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. Felix was, in fact, raised without religion. At the age of seven, he was all of a sudden baptized as a Reformed Christian. He was, moreover, a child musical prodigy. Nevertheless, his parents did not attempt to exploit his talent. Early Adulthood Mendelssohn was, in general, successful in Germany. He conducted, in particular, a revival of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, specifically with his presentation of the St Matthew Passion in 1829. Felix was truly in demand throughout Europe as a composer, conductor, and soloist. For example, he visited Britain ten times. There, he premiered, namely, many of his major works. His taste in music was. To be sure, inventive and well-crafted yet markedly conservative. This conservatism separated him by all means from more audacious musical colleagues like Liszt, Wagner, and Berlioz. Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig Conservatoire which, to clarify, became a defender of this conservative viewpoint. Mature Adulthood Schumann notably wrote that Mendelssohn was the Mozart of the nineteenth century, the most brilliant musician, the one who most clearly sees through the contradictions of the age and for the first time reconciles them. This observation points to a couple of features in particular that illustrate Mendelssohn's works and his artistic procedure. Musical Features In the first place, his musical style was fixed in his methodical mastery of the style of preceding masters. This being said, he certainly recognized and even developed early romanticism from the music of Beethoven and Weber. Secondly, it indicates that Mendelssohn sought to strengthen his inherited musical legacy rather than to exchange it with new forms and styles or replace it with exotic orchestration. Consequently, he diverged his contemporaries in the romantic period, such as Wagner, Berlioz.

Instrumental Solo,Oboe d'Amore,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549387 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Sacred,Standards,Wedding. Score and individual part. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #3492327. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549387). Duration: 4:55, Score: 6 pages, Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 2 pages. A very famous aria (Ombra mai fu) from XerxesSuitable for any venue requiring meditative music. Excellent choice for a recital encore. Xerxes Xerxes is, in fact, an opera seria in three acts by Handel. Moreover, Handel conducted the premiere performance in London in 1738. Handel casts the opera in Persia in 470 BC. The part of Xerxes was indeed originally sung by a soprano castrato. Nowadays, the part is generally sung by a mezzo-soprano or conversely a counter-tenor. In the first place, Xerxes sings an opening aria, Ombra mai fu to a plane tree. Handel sets this aria to one of his most truly famous melodies. Although many refer to it traditionally as Handel’s Largo, Handel has, on the contrary, clearly marked Larghetto in the score. Handel Background George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759) was born in Germany but eventually became a British citizen. Nonetheless, he was a famous Baroque composer. In fact, he became famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos. Handel studied music and, by and large, worked as a composer in Germany and Italy before moving to London. On the whole, Handel was very familiar with the contemporary music of Italy and Germany. Career in England It is essential to realize that Italian opera was all the rage in England at the time. Moreover, Handel was really good at writing them. Therefore, he started not one but three opera companies in England. Alexander's Feast was a huge success in 1736, but Handel began composing English choral works. After success with the Messiah in 1742) he certainly never again wrote an Italian opera. Consequently, he died in 1759, a treasured genius. Accordingly, the English government gave him full state honors at his funeral. Hence, he is buried in Westminster Abbey in London. Legacy Music historians agree that Handel was in general one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era.  To demonstrate, his works such as the Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks remain consistently popular up to the present time. He especially composed the coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest for the coronation of George II. Nevertheless, it has specifically been performed at every succeeding British coronation since. His oratorio Solomon has by all means also continued to be prevalent. As a matter of fact, Sinfonia from act 3 was featured in the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. Handel was particularly prolific. To enumerate, he wrote over forty operas.  Since the late 1960s, we have expressly experienced a revival of baroque music. Similarly, we have especially seen a pique of interest in historically informed musical performances. Since his death in 1779, interest in Handel's music has all in all, expanded. Â

Small Ensemble Cello,English Horn,Oboe,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.828699 Composed by Karl Friedrich Abel. Arranged by Guido Menestrina. Classical. Score and parts. 37 pages. Guido Menestrina #119775. Published by Guido Menestrina (A0.828699). Karl Friedrich Abel - Sinfonia Op. 7 n. 1 - Primo Movimento - Allegro Karl Friedrich Abel - Symphony Op. 7 n. 1 - First Movement - Allegro Edited by Guido Menestrina - Full score and single parts for 2 oboe, 2 F Horns (originally cor de chasse), 2 violins, viola and cello (originally basse de violon). Abel was born in Köthen,[3][4] a small German city, where his father, Christian Ferdinand Abel, had worked for years as the principal viola da gamba and cello player in the court orchestra. In 1723 Abel senior became director of the orchestra, when the previous director, Johann Sebastian Bach moved to Leipzig. The young Abel later boarded at Leipzig's Thomasschule, where he was taught by Bach. On Bach's recommendation in 1743 he was able to join Johann Adolph Hasse's court orchestra at Dresden where he remained for fifteen years.[3][5] In 1759 (or 1758 according to Chambers),[1] he went to England and became chamber-musician to Queen Charlotte, in 1764.[3][5] He gave a concert of his own compositions in London, performing on various instruments, one of which was a five-string cello known as a pentachord, which had been recently invented by John Joseph Merlin.[6] In 1762, Johann Christian Bach, the eleventh son of J.S. Bach, joined him in London, and the friendship between him and Abel led, in 1764 or 1765, to the establishment of the famous Bach-Abel concerts, England's first subscription concerts. In those concerts, many celebrated guest artists appeared, and many works of Haydn received their first English performance. For ten years the concerts were organized by Mrs. Theresa Cornelys, a retired Venetian opera singer who owned a concert hall at Carlisle House in Soho Square, then the height of fashionable events. In 1775 the concerts became independent of her, to be continued by Abel and Bach until Bach's death in 1782. Abel still remained in great demand as a player on various instruments new and old. He traveled to Germany and France between 1782 and 1785, and upon his return to London, became a leading member of the Grand Professional Concerts at the Hanover Square Rooms in Soho. Throughout his life he had enjoyed excessive living, and his drinking probably hastened his death, which occurred in London on 20 June 1787.[citation needed] One of Abel's works became famous due to a misattribution: in the 19th century, a manuscript symphony in the hand of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was catalogued as his Symphony no. 3 in E flat, K. 18, and was published as such in the first complete edition of Mozart's works by Breitkopf & Härtel. Later, it was discovered that this symphony was actually the work of Abel, copied by the boy Mozart-evidently for study purposes-while he was visiting London in 1764. That symphony was originally published as the concluding work in Abel's Six Symphonies, Op. 7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN3mtmg-rLI.

Regis Bookshar #696546. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1092454). Kyrie - by Francesco Durante; Euphonium Quartet – Intermediate – Digital Download. “Kyrieâ€, originally written for a four-part vocal ensemble by Francesco Durante, has now been transcribed, edited and arranged by Regis Bookshar, for a Euphonium Quartet, written in Treble Clef. There is also a version written in Bass Clef, if you would prefer. This would be a welcomed addition to any music library. This short composition, which lasts less than two minutes, will provide many students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long phrases, and to help them to continue to develop good intonation because many of the phrases cadence on a unison note. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (8 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble’s extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quartet version of this composition for many church services, especially funerals, when we were asked to supply something more somber and introspective rather than the louder, more festive music which many people come to expect from a Trumpet Ensemble. Francesco Durante was an Italian composer who was born on March 31, 1684 at Frattamaggiore, in the Kingdom of Naples. At an early age he entered the Conservatorio dei poveri di Gesu Cristo, in Naples, where he received lessons from Gaetano Greco. Later he became a pupil of Alessandro Scarlatti at the Conservatorio di Sant’Onofrio. He is said to have succeeded Scarlatti in 1725 at Sant’Onofrio and to have remained there until 1742, when he succeeded Nicola Porpora as head of the Conservatorio di Santa Maria de Loreto, also in Naples. He held this post for thirteen years, until his death on September 30, 1755. His fame as a teacher was considerable, and, unlike his Neapolitan contemporaries, who attracted international notice with their operas, Francesco Durante achieved recognition through his church music, along with some vocal chamber and instrumental works. His concern was not quantity. A complete collection of Durante’s works, consisting almost exclusively of sacred music, was presented by Gaspare Selveggi, a Neapolitan art collector and music theorist, to the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. The imperial library of Vienna also preserves a valuable collection of Durante’s manuscripts. The fact that Durante never composed for the stage brought him an exaggerated reputation as a composer of sacred music. He was considered one of the best church composers of his style and period. In his masses, requiems, litanies and Lamentations, he could provide strong expressive moments, as he does in this “Kyrieâ€. In addition to this arrangement for a Euphonium Quartet, Regis Bookshar has also made other arrangements of this selection. There are Quartets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I’m certain that this beautiful arrangement of Francesco Durante’s “Kyrie†will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (7 pages). In addition to this arrangement for an Oboe Quartet, Regis Bookshar has also made other arrangements of this selection.

This score includes the full score and cello part for My Love Went Home on Christmas Morning LYRICS: My love went home on Christmas morning Amid the evergreen. The candles wept, The day drew nigh As my love did close her eyes. My love did say to me last night, ‘An angel came to me. He smiled and said, “Fear not my child, Perfect peace does wait for you.â€â€™ For on this day was born, A child meek and lowly. Bitter shame, bitter scorn Was born on that cross That we might live. My love sings now in sweetest glory With angel choirs in heav’n No tear is shed, No burden born For they joy in perfect love. For on this day was born, A child meek and lowly. Bitter shame, bitter scorn Was born on that cross That we might live.

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Flugelhorn,Piccolo Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1107291 Composed by Julius Katterfeldt (1813-1886). Classical,Sacred. Score and parts. 42 pages. Albismusic #709953. Published by Albismusic (A0.1107291). Julius Katterfeldt was born in Wandsbek in 1813. Wandsbek was not yet part of Hamburg at that time. His father Johann Hinrich Katterfeldt was the organist at the famous Schnitger organ of Hamburg's main church St. Jakobi. He also gave his son first music lessons. Later he was a pupil of the famous Christian Heinrich Rinck in Darmstadt. Julius Katterfeldt was first organist at the church of St. Johannes in Eppendorf. In 1840, Katterfeldt was appointed by the Danish king to the post of cathedral organist in Schleswig. After the Schleswig-Holstein uprising (1848 to 1851) he had to give up his organist post at the cathedral. Friedrich von Reventlou (1797-1874) brought Katterfeldt to the monastery church in Preetz, where Renventlou was provost, because of the political quarrels over the county of Holstein. In Preetz he even had to take on sexton duties in addition to organ duties. After the war (Battle of Dybbøl/DK), Schleswig once again belonged to the Republic of Prussia. For this reason, the German Emperor had a new tower built for Schleswig Cathedral in 1864. It can be assumed that the church symphony by Julius Katterfeldt was composed for this purpose beforehand and was therefore later published by the renowned Berlin music publisher BOTE & BOCK. His Church Symphony Opus 18, for brassband and organ, is dedicated to the Prussian Emperor Wilhelm I. Katterfeldt’s Church Symphony is the first original symphonic work for the instrumentation organ and brass band. His son-in-law was the Schwerin cathedral organist George Hepworth (1825-1918). Through his contacts in England, some of J. Katterfeldt's organ works were published in the anthologies Organist's Quarterly Journal (editor, William Spark). this publication: ISMN 979-700-212-81-4 (including organscore!) conductor’s score: ISMN 979-700-212-81-0.
