Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1431445). “O Worship the King” is a free paraphrase of Psalm 104 (largely verses 1-13 and 24-33) by Sir Robert Grant (1779-1838), an Anglo-Indian lawyer who served as a member of Parliament as well as Governor of Bombay. Influenced by William Kethe's paraphrase of the same psalm, Grant's “O Worship the King” first appeared in Edward Bickersteth’s Christian Psalmody (1833) and later appeared in a posthumous volume of Grant’s work, Sacred Poems (1839), edited by his brother Charles.Grant's text includes six verses; many hymnals abbreviate it, leaving off the concluding one. This arrangement, employing the tune HANOVER by William Croft (1678-1727), includes music for verses 1-5, and may be furthered abbreviated to four by eliminating the repeat on verses 1-2. In addition, she has taken French and German diction courses with Prof. Gary Arvin. ISBN 9790570484355.This quartet was composed during Dvorak's time in America, during a summer vacation in 1893. It was written in Spillville, Iowa, which at the time was home to a large Czech immigrant community. Dvorak seems to have found the natural country surroundings much more to his liking, having spent much of his previous time in the country in New York. The work was written very quickly, being sketched in three days and finished in about two weeks. In this quartet, Dvorak finally seems to find a balance between his melodic invention and a clear structure. Many writers have tried to find specific 'American' features in this work - from pentatonic melodies to native Indian tunes to American birdsong - but in general such specific references are doubted. The first movement moves from passages of great harmonic stillness through a much more dramatic development section that takes the music through fugato section before recapping the original material. The second movement features a simple, pentatonic melody over a pulsing accompaniment. This melody is shared between the highest and lowest parts, before being developed in an extended middle section until the bass flute restates the original tune while the accompaniment thins out completely. The third movement is a variant of a traditional scherzo. It features two tunes, the main melody being a sprightly tune full of off-beats and cross-rhythms. The alternate melody is actually a variant of the main scherzo theme, but in a minor key and at half tempo. The final movement is in a traditional rondo form. The main melody is once more pentatonic, the B section is more lyrical, and the C section is a chorale theme.

The original work for Concert Band was commissioned by Edward Trovato and his band, The Gleneagle Secondary School Senior Symphonic Band, of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. The inspiration came from the name of a stretch of highway that pays homage to the fallen soldiers. It was composed to honour heroism of all kinds - to pay tribute to the brave souls who every day unselfishly risk their lives and even pay the ultimate sacrifice. There are two Highways of Heroes in Canada, the first being a portion of the King's Highway in Ontario, commonly referred to as Highway 401 and officially known as The MacDonald-Cartier Freeway. The second is the portion of the Trans-Canada Highway in British Columbia between Surrey and Abbotsford. In 2007, The Government of Canada renamed the freeway in Ontario between Trenton, home of the Canadian Forces Base Trenton, and Toronto, where the Office of the Chief Coroner is located. This was the first stop for the fallen returning from Afghanistan before returning home to their families. Although Canada had a special forces team in Afghanistan in December 2001, the first infantry battalion did not arrive until February 2002. That April saw the first casualty. The funeral processions that followed inspired a spontaneous phenomenon of Canadians lining the 100-mile route, waving flags and rendering salutes to remember their country's soldiers. The second Highway of Heroes was dedicated in 2011 to the memory of British Columbians who paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives for their country in Afghanistan and to the families they left behind. This setting for British Style Brass Band was written to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first main body of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan and to remember the 159 service personnel and civilians whose sacrifices cannot be forgotten.
