For SOLO CELLOÂ AND PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT (with optional Double Bass).This beautiful and exciting arrangement is from the beloved Rodgers & Hammerstein ground-breaking 1949Â Broadway musical, South Pacific. This arrangement begins very simply with the soloist unaccompanied. Then the piano comes in with a dream-like delicacy with expands into a rich and lush accompaniment. The bridge gets a little spicier with a jazz waltz feel and then expands back to a warmth before a final key change that turns into a big theatrical ending. This is sure to be a real crowd pleaser. The piano accompaniment is quite difficult but there are alternate passages included to simplify the most difficult passages. There is an optional BASS part included that would add to the performance. There is no drum part included, but a drummer could easily improvised from the Bass part which would add a lot as well. This is the GUITAR PART (in standard notation with TAB) of the GUITAR and BASS DUET recording of Cool Cowboy Glen (tribute to Glen Campbell).  This guitar and bass duet features advanced-intermediate fingerstyle guitar playing, combining country, folk, popular, classical and Spanish styles. The guitar plays most of the melody in the first half, with the Bass playing fills, then bass takes over playing the melody in the second half and the guitar accompanies. Then guitar and bass trade off melody, before returning to guitar melody for the final section. It's got lively parts (like a hoedown), and smooth and beautiful parts.The BASS PART is available separately. The GUITAR PART in standard notation (without TAB) is also available separately.Glen Campbell (who inspired this piece) was played guitar on many popular hit songs as a member of The Wrecking Crew group of session musicians, incluing hits by The Beach Boys, The Monkees, Frank Sinatra, and many others. He became as singing star with several hit songs, including Gentle On My Mind, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, Witchita Lineman, Galveston, Rhinestone Cowboy and Southern Nights. He co-starred with John Wayne inthe movie True Grit, also singing the hit title song.Brad Powell (The Candlelight Guitarist) and his bandmate friend Frank Sanchez (both 16 years old) were guests of Glen Campbell in a recording session at Capitol Records, in September 1971. This duet song and recording is their tribute to Glen Campbell.  Frank Sanchez was the original bass player for Weird Al Yankovic... Alfred called him Frank (from the bank) Sanchez.ABOUT the composer: Brad Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso, and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. When not making music, Brad is often out hiking with his four dogs. The original version of E Toro nga Hau: The Three Winds was written for oboe, clarinet and bassoon in 2001 and premiered by the Eastwind Trio d’Anches (the faculty reed trio from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with the composer on bassoon) during a tour in New Zealand and Australia in May 2001. The premiere of the version for saxophone trio was performed by members of the Red Clay Saxophone Quartet on February 5, 2008.E Toro nga Hau: The Three Winds was inspired by the Australasian tour and my return home to New Zealand as a performer. Another inspiration was that my dear Grandmother passed away at the age of 94 in February 2001. Due to this there are elements of sadness and happiness throughout the piece. The bittersweet first movement begins melancholy, with a melody that freely switches between minor and major modes, but ends up with a lively dancing section focusing on happy memories, where the chickens from my grandmother’s farm may even be heard. The second movement is lively throughout with extensive use of mixed meter and includes a jazz rock interlude.While the work does not contain any actual New Zealand elements in the music, it was evocative of my time spent there growing up. It is in a style typical of my writing, containing jazzy influences combined with the more traditional. The title is given in Maori (the language of the native Polynesian race in New Zealand) and English and merely relates to the fact that it is written for three woodwind instruments. This work has been performed throughout North America and the South Pacific.This work also exists in two double reed versions: one for oboe, English horn, and bassoon, and another for oboe and two bassoons.

Pura Alegria is one of Eddie Lewis’ en clave compositions, where every rhythm from every phrase in the piece is derived from the clave. The clave is a rhythm from west Africa that came to the tropical islands with the slaves. From there, hundreds of years later, the rhythm became the underlying groove for a number of modern Latin dance music styles. Eddie Lewis was exposed to the clave rhythms during a period of twenty years when he was making his living primarily as a salsa trumpet player. While Eddie’s compositions are not salsa, his writing has been forever influenced by that music and the people. And that influence is not limited to only the rhythms. We are only emphasizing the rhythms here because of the prominence of the clave in Pura Alegria. Stirling High School, East London, South Africa Eddie composed Pura Alegria for the students in the brass ensemble at Stirling High School in East London, South Africa. The students prepared it as part of a presentation and Eddie was honored to contribute something for them to work on and perform. The request came from Eddie’s good friend, Leonard Brandt. Leonard is a professional trumpet player in South Africa and also teaches applied brass at the high school. When Eddie was in South Africa for the jazz festival in Grahamstown (2016), Leonard arranged a personal performance of Pura Alegria for him in one of the empty classrooms. The composition was a smashing success and the students and the audience all enjoyed it! Skill Level When Eddie does a commission, he goes to great lengths to map out the skills of the individual players. Often times, his method’s skill levels don’t apply. Please keep in mind that skill levels in published music are not about how good the students are. Students will always have mixed skill sets. That’s part of what it means to be human. We are good at some things and bad at others. So the skills of the individual parts in Pura Alegria are varied, not only from part to part, but from skill to skill. That said, the highest note in the first trumpet part is written high C, and the rhythms are syncopated (because of the clave influence). We would put most of that first part in our Trumpet Pro skill level. The highest note in the second part is written A above the staff. The highest note in the third trumpet part is top line F. Practice Recommendations Pay special attention to the articulations, which can feel a little awkward, but really make the piece. Sometimes the eighth-notes are long and the quarter-notes are short. Other times the quarter-notes are long and the eighth-notes are short. Also be careful with the dynamics. There will be a tendency to play the entire piece too loud. Because it feels like that kind of piece. However, if you play it that way, it will ruin some of the compositional effects. This is especially true for the keyboard. If you are performing with a keyboard, not an acoustic piano, then what’s the amplification that it doesn’t bury the rest of the ensemble. You cannot have the keyboard set to the same volume as you would for a full jazz ensemble class. Other than that, have fun with this piece. The name, Pura Alegria, in English means Pure Joy! The rhythms are delightful and the melodies are infectious.

Published by DML (A0.928250). This song is based on a Colombianas a Flamenco style imported, as the name suggests, from South America. There has always been a rich interchange between Spain and South America, not so surprising perhaps. I had written the beginning as a solo piece but when Lynieve heard it she said it gave her a strong image of a little girl playing outside in the sun. So I just let her go with it. The lyrics are mostly hers but I added a line here and there and a lot of the melody sprang naturally from the lyrics. We tried to retain that original image of childhood but with just a hint of the unavoidable growing up. Although the lyrics are in English it forms a group with Torito and Una Pena Quita Pena as it is based on various styles of Flamenco.

Brightest and Best is an original piece based on the hymn tune STAR IN THE EAST (from The Southern Harmony), most commonly used with the text Brightest and Best of the Sons of the Morning. As such, the arrangement is well suited to use in the Christmas and Epiphany seasons. However, the tune's general appeal make it a great addition to worship in any season, as well as use in concert or recital settings.In addition to the main hymn melody, this piece is woven through with original counter melodies and rich harmonies. Through much of the piece, flowing, running 8th notes and rhythmic bass lines maintain motion beneath the soaring melody. The second verse slows down with a quarter note motif reminiscent of change-ringing bells, keeping an open and ethereal sound with building anticipation before the interlude melodies return in full force for the conclusion.Most of these features and ideas appear in both the secondo and primo parts in this 1-piano, 4-hands piece. The shrubs themselves are dry, fast growing and burn easily, making them particularly prone to California wildfires. Covering approximately 5% of the state of California, I named this piece Chaparral in honor of the Duo Montagnard’s tour through the southern California region.This document includes the score and parts for the alto sax and classical guitar combined as a single PDF.

Drea's Accordes is an arrangement of a solo guitar piece, Air in the Dorian Mode, from my set of Diatonic Pieces where no accidentals are employed other than in the key signature. The Air has a distinctive Renaissance character. The arrangement was created to serve as incidental music for a production of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING by the Southern Shakespeare Company in Cascades Park in Tallahassee, FL in May of 2022. The title Drea's Accordes is in part a reference to my wife who played the violin part in that production, and in part a bit of word-play on Drewrie's Accordes, a quasi-famous Elizabethan lute duet.
