The first part requires a player with a confident c2, but all the other parts are accessible to good high school players. For variety, an optional rubato intro is suggested, which can be used in place of the up-tempo start. Originally published in 1935, this song was sung in the movie I by Frances Langford. She used this song to great affect while on tour with Bob Hope to entertain the troops in WW II. Many artists have had hits with this song, among them Louis Armstrong, Barbara Streisand, and Rod Stewart. Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields collaborated on over 30 songs, including On The Sunny Side Of The Street and I Can't Give You Anything But Love. The arranger, Bob Coil, is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of music, where he studied bass trombone with Betty Glover. In the late 1870's Tchaikovsky toyed with the idea of an opera. He completed a Fantasy Overture, and later on, sketched the Duet between the two lovers. A tragedy in itself, Tchaikovsky never finished his opera. Almost 100 years later, Franco Zeffirelli directed a film version where Giovanni Rota Rinaldi (Nino Rota) created the musical score in 1968. The most notable segment is the Love Theme sung by the troubadour during the masked ball where Romeo and Juliet first meet.This setting is based on the timeless innocence of Rinaldi's writing of the Love Theme and makes reference to the passionate duet of Tchaikovksy, with Juliet played by the Tenor Horn and Romeo by the Euphonium. It will suit a quartet or a larger ensemble.My arrangement is just a semitone lower than the original and moves the piece to a familiar and comfortable set of notes for the intermediate player.There is limited Left Hand fingering - whilst the lower parts remain in first position much of the time, the upper parts go up the neck. Players confident up the neck might stay up there, but less experienced players might want to return to more familiar territory as soon as possible, so please add the fingering that works for you.The original has the luxury of instruments with long sustain, and with contrasting tone colours. In order to make sure that the tune cuts through, be sure to listen to those around you…The whole piece is here, lasting 5 minutes or so. Jesus Loves Me is one of the most well known and beloved hymns in the Christian faith. This is a hymn that we all learned at a very early age, perhaps in Sunday School, Bible School or Junior Church. It has been with us since 1862. The lyrics were originally written in 1860 as a poem by Anna B. Warner. Then, in 1862, the poem was put to music by William Bradbury. This beautiful hymn has withstood the test of time like Amazing Grace, The Old Rugged Cross and so many more.This arrangement is written for String Quintet and has three verses and choruses. The first verstion closely follows the original harmonic structure without any deviations. The second version utilized a different harmonic sequence and includes some rhythmic changes in a few spots. Finally, the third version again includes a different harmonic sequence, modulates to a differest key and contains an extended ending. This String Quintet is different than the standard quintet, in that this is made up of 1st & 2nd Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass.This wonderful piece can be played as special music for your church service, or offertory.
