JaGlo Music #1032873. Published by JaGlo Music (A0.1453659). This is a guitar quartet Christmas piece that I wrote earlier this year. It is for advanced players and is perfect for Holiday Concerts, Christmas parties or recitals. The theme is based on the legend of the Pukwudgie and is the soundtrack to the story below. © Copyright 2024 JaGlo Music. In the quaint village of Hollybrook, Christmas was a time of joy and togetherness. But this year, a malicious pukwudgie named Bramble planned to spread fear and chaos. On Christmas Eve, as villagers gathered around the grand tree for the annual lighting ceremony, Bramble struck. He made the lights flicker and go out and twisted the ornaments into grotesque shapes. He snuck into homes, swapping sugar for ashes and hiding stockings in unreachable places, casting a dark spell over the village. By morning, Hollybrook was in disarray. Children found their stockings missing, cookies ruined, and the tree ominous in the square. Fear gripped the town. Amidst the chaos, a brave girl named Lucy refused to let fear win. She gathered her friends and ventured into the forest, following eerie footprints. They found Bramble muttering dark incantations under a gnarled tree. Caught in a trap made from holly and mistletoe, Bramble hissed his intentions to spread fear. Lucy, with steely resolve, offered him a chance at redemption. Reluctantly, Bramble agreed. They returned to the village, and with Bramble’s help, dispelled the dark enchantments. The ornaments returned to their beautiful forms, sugar replaced the ashes, and the stockings were found. That night, the tree lit up, and Bramble felt warmth in his heart for the first time. The villagers, initially wary, accepted him as he helped create beautiful ice sculptures, adding magic to the festivities. From that year on, Bramble became part of Hollybrook. His dark nature slowly transformed under the light of friendship and acceptance. Every Christmas, his magic brought extra sparkle to the celebrations, reminding everyone that even the darkest hearts could find redemption through kindness and love.

In recounting her motivation for writing this piece, Hall - in a discussion with Blythe at the Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar (where Hall was the Guest Composer in 2018) - said You know what I think is really so wonderful is how you [Blythe] communicate, from here to there, right to the audience...it just speaks, the words, the text, come right...right to the heart of each person...I was thinking, what a wonderful person, what a wonderful voice...to be able to communicate...I've just got the most perfect singer to take these songs, this wonderful subject of love, and present it to the worldThe seven poems Hall set in Of That So Sweet Imprisonment were chosen from James Joyce's early book of poems, Chamber Music (Elkin Mathews, London) published in 1907. The poems are arranged in a narrative arc that takes the listener from the presence of love in nature (Strings in the Earth and Air), to the human feeling of emptiness when love is not present (Winds of May), to a description exulting in the joys of human love (Of That So Sweet Imprisonment), to expression of human love such as kissing (In the Dark Pine-Wood), to love's tranformation of a girl into a woman through love making (Bid Adieu), to the feelings of contentment in the early morning after making love (At That Hour When All Things Have Repose), and finally a call for the lovers to go to a special place where they may remain together in love (O Cool is the Valley).Of That So Sweet Imprisonment will be premiered on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City, by Ms. Blythe and pianist Alan Smith, on the third concert of the Sparks & Wiry Cries' NYC songSLAM Festival, entitled Expressions of Love: Stephanie Blythe and Friends.Contents:I. The story of Gander and the surrounding towns has been immortalized in the Broadway show, Come From Away. The song is written in a Celtic/Newfoundland style. This song features the use of an Ugly Stick, a traditional Newfoundland percussion instrument. Duration: 1:53 Score 6 pg. 54 ms. Alto Sax 1 pg. Piano part 3 pg. One of Schubert's most well-known pieces. This is an effective recital encore due to its brevity and range of expression. Could work well for a variety of occasions: wedding receptions, church services (Easter), and anniversaries. It seems like a pleasant dance, unlike some previous dance music. Schubert improvised these dances at parties for his friends.  Although conceived on-the-fly, these dances are the work of a genius. Composers have similarly elevated dance music to artistic status. As a result, they freed it from the original purpose of dancing. Certainly, the older masters used the dance forms as vehicles for complex treatments. Here, however, Schubert retains the dance-like quality while finally expressing his innermost thoughts and emotions. The dance is certainly filled with a doleful expression, yet the texture remains even more light and refined. Therefore, to perform these with sensitivity we probably need to use a light but accurate touch. The accompaniment pattern needs to be crisp and delicate – probably even in the more forceful parts. The piano pedal should also be used very carefully so as a result not to blur the outline. Instead, it should contribute to the dynamic quality of the piece. Schubert Franz Schubert (1797–1828) was, in fact, a famous Austrian composer. Moreover, he composed during the late Classical and early Romantic periods. Schubert was comparatively prolific. He wrote more than 600 secular vocal works, seven symphonies, and, correspondingly, a massive amount of piano and chamber music. Critics agree, as a matter of fact, that his most famous works include his Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 (also known as the Trout Quintet), the Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D. 759 (Unfinished Symphony), the last sonatas for piano (D. 958–960), and the song cycles Die schöne Müllerin (D. 795) and Winterreise (D. 911). Education Schubert was furthermore a musical child prodigy. He studied violin with his father as well as piano with his older brother. In addition, when Schubert was eleven he studied at Stadtkonvikt school, where he became familiar with the orchestral music of Haydn, Mozart, and likewise Beethoven. In due time he left school and returned home where he studied to become an educator; nevertheless, he continued studying composition with Antonio Salieri. Performance Eventually, Schubert was admitted to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde as a performer. This appointment straightaway established his name in Vienna as a composer and pianist. Finally, he gave his only composition recital in 1828. He died suddenly a few months later probably due to typhoid fever. Legacy Schubert’s music was by and large underappreciated while he was alive. There were all in all only a few enthusiasts in Vienna. After he died, however, interest in his work in fact increased. Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms, and other famous composers in due time discovered his compositions. Nowadays, historians rank Schubert expressly among the greatest composers of the era, and his music remains in general very popular.

Green Green Grass is a song by British singer-songwriter George Ezra. It was released on 22 April 2022, as the second single from Ezra's third studio album Gold Rush Kid. The song reached number three on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Ezra's seventh top ten song there and was nominated for the Brit Award for Song Of The Year at the 2023 Brit Awards. The song was inspired by a 2018 Christmas holiday trip to St. Lucia by Ezra and his friends.[2] About the lyrical background of the song, Ezra explained, there was a street party going on, with three different sound systems, people cooking in the street. I asked a woman what was going on and she told me it was a funeral – for three people. They were celebrating three lives! I thought: that is not how we do this at home. And it's really beautiful.

Ali Hanna #857172. Published by Ali Hanna (A0.1264319). I wrote this piece as an epilogue (pun definitely intended) to a traumatic religious event that took place in February 2023. I won't go into details so I don't risk triggering anyone, but let's just say it was a lot. This is also the first piece I've written where the text isn't my own because my composition professor at the time challenged me to do so.The text of the first half of the piece comes from Mark Twain's poem Warm Summer Sun. It's intended to be an acceptance of the fact that the singer isn't the same person they once were. As the poem repeats, the singer begins to say goodbye to their old self and lay them to rest.The text of the second half of the piece comes from Madison Julius Cawein's poem Take Heart. I see this part as someone in the singer's life giving them hope to keep on living, and who that entity is can be interpreted in a number of ways. For me, it was the friends and professors around me that helped me keep going. I didn't talk to many people about what happened, but just seeing everyone's faces every day taught me that if they can continue living their lives, then so can I.I ended up adding the clarinet part after a moment of inspiration during my trip to the ICA ClarinetFest 2023 in Denver, Colorado. Voice and clarinet are my two passions, so I thought I would use Epilogue to put them together. This piece has yet to be premiered in its current form, but I hope to someday.
